>> live from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia. this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news " this morning. white supremecist take their message of hate to philadelphia's fairmount park and boathouse row sparking counter protests and condemnation for philadelphia mayor jim kenney. how officers were able to keep the peace. four philadelphia sheriff's deputies getting ready to go to puerto rico. hear from one of the deputies on why this deposition employment means so much. and, this is a live look this morning at center city philadelphia from our studios in spring garden. if you're hitting the road this morning, you want to watch out for fog. just how thick it is out there , and when it will clear out. >> today is sunday, october 15th, good morning, i'm jan carabeo. let's get right over to

meteorologist, matt peterson, with eyewitness weather. good sunday morning, matt. as i was driving in, a lot of drizzle hitting the windshield >> same for me. been one of those kind of mornings, dreary out, there never fear, we're go to see real nice conditions this week so we have to get through the end of our weekends, this sunday morning it is foggy, drizzly, dreary, as we were saying, but warm. so we're waking up warm and a little muggy too. so, this is what we're seeing on the storm scan3 at this point, not whole lot going on out there. again, not even all that much cloud cover showing up on storm scan because the temperature of the clouds is just about the same as temperature of the grounds. as you do get outside, saw on the room do you have camera, there is some fog, don't be surprised if get little drizzle mixed in with t visibilities for us, they're on the lower ends of things, so we have limited visibilities from reading, philly, back even down toward some of the shore points, as well, down near mile or less in a couple every spots. do be careful on area roads, even dover coming in with less

man a mile visibility. temperatures for the most part mild, hitting mid 60s, will continue to rise going through the day today before cold front sweeps through, clears us out tonight. so we sit at 66 in philly. sitting at six an in wilmington, cool spot up in mount pocono, coming in at 57. here are the winds, generally out of the south to the southwest. not too strong right now. but they will be gusting later this afternoon, maybe as high as 20 miles an hour, and they'll town stay out of the south and west until that front comes through through the overnight hours tonight. we top it out at 08 degrees later this afternoon, well above average. but i talk about what we can expect on the back side of the front coming up in just a little bit. >> sounds good, thank you, matt. new this morning, authorities are investigating after a 50 year old man is gunned down in kensington. police responded to the 200 block every east-west moore lands street just before midnight. they arrived to find that victim shot multiple times. he died at the scene. we're told investigators found a gun nearby. but they do not have a suspect

in custody. cooling protests right here in philadelphia. firm message from counter protesters and mayor jim kenney, as white nationalists. march through fairmount park. "eyewitness news" reporter alicia has more. (protest shouts). >> counter protested chanted over group of whitemarsh thinks cents near fairmount park. grew p 20 keystone united marchers right along boathouse row, statue of european explorer, the group said they organize philadelphia to defends white heritage. responders responded around the entire group to denounce the heritage every white supremacy. we cannot share much of the audio from this gathering and counter protest because much of it is laced with profanity, this interaction between two groups went on for about a half hour, few tense moments, but philadelphia police made sure to be a barrier between the white nationalists group and counter protesters.

mayor jim kenney late tonight responded to this gathering and counter protest in his sit >> i we're in a bad situation in our country right now, however, the first amendment is the first amendment. >> mayor also adding message specific to white nationalist groups. >> you're wrong. the message is you're wrong. and being white is not supreme i i just think no place in our society for that kind of hatred and that kind of white supremacy or neo-nazi. >> despite some testing moments at the rally and protest, police say it ended without incident. in the sat center, cbs-3, " eyewitness news." >> chester police are looking for a man who sexually assaulted an elderly woman. surveillance video of the suspect is circulating on facebook, it was originally posted by brady hall. now, police say, the man walk up to the victim at walnut, chestnut garden amounts, that's near upland street, in east 23rd street. the man pulled out a rifle and forced the woman to go behind some cars there.

he robbed and assaulted her before running away, officers searched the area, but have yet to announce any arrests. >> authorities in delaware caught up with three suspect, they say, stage add armed robbery after pizza delivery driver. take a look at this, police arrested two, 17 year old, than man, 19 year old jonathan snyder. now, authorities say the driver was met by snyder at a home in north wilmington. that's when the two teenagers armed with bb guns jumped out of some bushes wearing halloween masks, demanded pizza from the driver and money from snyder but turns out snyder was posing as customer and victim, all three now facing charges. >> well, it is now almost a month after hurricane maria and puerto rico is still struggling to recover. this morning, four philadelphia sheriff's deputies heading to the islands to help out. right now in puerto rico electricity, food, water, remain scarce atwater treatment plant just outside of san juan. people are waiting in long lines for their water actions

-- rations and clean bags every ice. seems like these that have inspired the dispute toys help out. there are people that need our help and it is our people, our american citizens that need us, for me, it is very heartfelt. i can't even put in the words how i feel. i just feel as though i feel obligate today help my people as much as possible. >> now those four men will be in puerto rico helping with relief effort there, for three weeks. corn coroner confirms two more people have died in the california wild fires, bringing the number of victims to 40. but firefighters are gaining grounds, against the deadliest wilds fires in the state's history, as chris martinez reports, largest fires now nearly 50% contained. >> from the air, you can see the massive scope of the fires burning through california's wine country. on saturday, gusty winds helped fan the flames of the fire near the town of sonoma, prompting new evacuations, embers from the blaze caught this house on fire. as firefighters work to put

out the flames, a shed nearby melted and collapsed, before our eyes. more than 9,000 firefighters are battling more than a dozen large fires across the state. officials say, overall, they are making great progress. >> the day that we have -- >> thousand of people remain evacuate from the their homes this weekend, and officials say they'll not allow them to return until the fire danger subsides. that danger on full display in this body cam video, showing first responders rushing to get people to safety last sunday night. local officials say, they're still working to assess all of the damage. >> the count stands at 5,700 damaged and destroyed structures. >> at least 20 investigators are working to figure out what caused the fires. but they say it could be weeks before they have any answers. chris martinez, for cbs-3, " eyewitness news."

>> the fires are also taking a financial toll on that region. insurers estimate the damage could top $6 billion. >> well, today is the 31st annual aids walk-run philly. and about in a hour and a half from now, 10,000 people will participate in raising money and awareness in the fight against aids. "eyewitness news" reporter anita oh, joins us live from the art museum where set up there is well underway. anita, good morning, big day ahead. >> good morning, jan, yes, set up is underway behind me, but imagine being part of this run for the past 30 years. and that's the riker, the executive director of the aids funds, thanks for with being with us this morning. >> thanks for being here. >> so let's talk about this mission, this new mission that you have. and also this idea of zero. >> sure. it so the mission today is to assist people when they're facing financial crisis that could impede their health. so, we assist people when maybe they have fallen behind

on their rent, about to be evicted or their utilities will be shut off. you can't be healthy for living on the street. we want people to live a long and healthy life with hiv. so because today we know we can get zero. we have all of the tools. we just have to continue to fight stigma, make sure people know about the latest prevention methods, and keep people in care and healthy, because if you're in care and healthy won't pass the virus ton somebody. >> how can we as a community fight that stigma around this infection? >> most important thing is to talk about hiv. talk about it, we don't talk about hiv enough any more. that's why an event like this is so important it, raises aware wear necessary in the community and starts the conversation. >> this conversation is specially important in our region where the rate of new infections is greater than in other areas. so, what's this event mean, what's the take away you want these 10,000 people and more to take away. >> i think the most important thing is to recognize that the

flames were threatening nearby buildings and power lines, the fire was put out in just about two hours, no one was injured, the cause is now under investigation. >> little girl found inside carnival cruise ship has died. this happened yesterday morning, police say the eight year old somehow fell from a second story balcony to lower deck about 20 feet below. now, this ship had just finished its voyage, and was docked at for the miami at the time. the incident is now under investigation. using twitter, once again to push the message for dismantling obamacare. president tweeted, quote, health insurance stocks which have gone through the roof during the obama car years plunged yesterday, after i ended their dems windfall. millions of people benefit. now, the government has paid billions to reduce obamacare costs for more than 6 million low income americans. >> turning to weather now, a bit dreary out there today.

out there, mild, temperatures sitting in the mid to high 60s , early on in the day. we fin to rise, going to brunch 57 degrees, the fog gone, maybe mix every sunday and clouds, out and about later this afternoon, get to up about 08 degrees or so, then as we hit the evening time, getting ready to kind of winds down the weekend, ready for dinner, clouds are still out there temperatures still warm, hitting 754 degrees even as we get into the second half of the day into the evening time frame here on our sunday, and then really going to actually be cooling down pretty nicely tonight and into tomorrow with the front coming through. temperatures early on, drink the coffee, it is mild, check it out, 60s for pretty much everybody out there, pushing into 68 degrees right now millville. sixty-one reading, lehigh valley, well above average, mount pocono the coolest spot, that's at 57 degrees. winds, not too bad for the time being, generally out of the south to the southwest

bringing in the warm, muggy air, will feed the warm temperatures we see through the afternoon, also, see these temperatures right now, winds speeds, about five to 10 miles an hour now, climb through the afternoon, gusting maybe as high as 15 to 20 miles an hour but here is the current set up see the system, there is it, very potent colds front. that's eventually going to be sliding through. the area of low pressure itself just north of chicago, what we are watching as it tracks further to the north and east it, drags that colds front across the delaware valley later tonight. bringing with it showers for t sunday afternoon on future weather again the fock clears out, mix every sunday and clouds for our sunday afternoon, but by maybe 10:00, 11:00 we start to see the showers in the lehigh valley, so that's the front as it starts to work it way in. so again, 10:00, 11:00, showers off to the north and west, going through the rest of the overnight hours, we can see spotty showers across philly, then down into central new jersey, as well. by tomorrow morning, though, really just down near the

shore points and down into the southern delaware that's where we are seeing the morning showers on monday. monday afternoon, even into tuesday, then looking real nice. overall future rain amounts, not whole lot that we will be concerned with. talk about heavier apartments maybe down near the shore, down into delaware, philly and specially back offer to the north and west, looking at maybe tent of an inch at most. here is your seven day forecast, 80 degrees today, going with a sunshine and little bit of humidity, and then it clears out, doesn't get much more fall like than this, jan, 60s and 70s, all week long. >> glorious. thank you, matt. 18:00 now. breast cancer awareness month turns the restaurant in philadelphia spring garden neighborhood was prep any pink last night, and toasted the pink tie ball. take look, susan g. komen philadelphia's signature event for national breast cancer awareness month. police displayed their pink cards, too, many people signed it with the name of the loved one they've lot to breast cancer. our natasha brown and

>> the pennsylvania ballet newest season is underway at the academy of music. this year it is longest tenured member is celebrating a huge milestone. it is her 45th season with the company. and over that time, she has spent countless hours practicing and has performed in hundreds of ballets. chant cents are, though, never seen her. >> ♪ >> they're athleticism is remarkable. their grace, breathtaking. without a doubt, the pennsylvania ballet is full of

extraordinary artists. but the dancers are only one piece of a grand puzzle, without her they'd never get off the grounds. >> i remember saying to a friends, i remember discontinuingly, i hope i get to play for them some day. here it is, 45 years later, i never left. >> now, has claim her spot behind the piano at the pa ballet for 45 seasons. she is now the principal pianist, but it has been a long journey, and at first, the job was daunting. >> went home every night crying for a month, driving down kelly drive, just a mess, i thought i'm not going to be able to keep this job. i can't do it, so hard. >> i knew virtually nothing, i knew plia, that's about it, i'm not trained as a dancer, we had to learn each other's language. >> accompanying a dancer isn't just about playing the notes.

martha knows the choreography, too. it is vital in order to make a rehearsal like this one seamless. but it took martha a decade to master the skill now it's second nature. >> i'm sensing their movement, and i've always got the sensation of the orchestra in my minds. >> and this ballet, the sleeping beauty; extremely physical. it is particulars hours playing a day. when the dancer rehearse the whole show, that's 225 pages every music. but, over the four plus decades, it has never felt like work. martha credit artistic director, she calls brilliant, and of course the dancers. >> at the very fulfilling. i was happy from the beginning , never occurred to me anything else. >> ♪ >> ♪ >> ♪ >> she is absolutely incredible. martha hasn't thought about retirement too much, either, does teach on the side, and is

right -- his technical sperms. >> i was going to call the technical terms gross, but you see, you stole my thunder, no pun intended but again just dreary kind of sloppy start to our sunday, unfortunately. we're in the jug dealing with the fog and the drizzle here in fill. you head back down toward the delaware shore points, not any better. check out the boardwalk plaza there down in re heck it on the neighborhood network. just dreary wet and pretty nasty start to the day, unfortunately, now it is not going to stay this way, all day long. we have the patchy morning fog here early on, then we will see some sunshine, as we get into the afternoon hours with patchy morning fog, eventually burning off. now, our heat is going to crank up through the afternoon , high temperatures are going to be up near 80 degrees. and that humidity will be a little bit higher, too, visibility, for the most part, is spotty, i should say, the fog kind of patchy and spotty here this morning, with areas that are getting highly affected, reds g, philly,

trenton back down toward dover that's where we're seeing the lowest visibilities at this point. so again, if you are driving around the lil high valley or here in philly early on this morning, do be careful on the area roads. southwesterly winds are on the rise, as we go through the day today, we will be looking for wind gusts out of the south and the west to be maybe as high as 20 miles per hour, so seeing some warm air being brought into the region here early on this morning, that's why we're sitting in the 60s, check out the hour by hour forecast, we top it out to 80 later this afternoon. >> not ready for yet. >> yes, thank you, matt, we will get back to you. new this morning, an overnight shooting in west mt. airy, a man was gunned down just outside of germantown church of the brethren near sharpnack street. that will shooting happened just after 1:00 a.m. now the victim is in critical condition. police tell us they did finds a gun, on the scene there, but have yet to make any arrests. >> well, dueling protests right here if philadelphia. white nationalists marking

through fairmount, marching through fairmount park, are met by outrage, counter protesters. the group of white nationalists rallied yesterday , near a statue of a european explore ear near boat house row. the group said they organized around it to doo fend white heritage. counter protesters responded denouncing the message, late last night, mayor jim kenney sounded off. >> you're wrong, the message is you're wrong. and being white is not supreme i just think there is no place in our society for that kind of hatred, and that casino every white supremacy or neo that the sim. >> philadelphia's police department was made aware of the white nationalist rally ahead of time, as a precaution they had number of officers present. this interaction between the two groups went on for just about a half hour. it was described as mostly peaceful. >> police are still trying to figure out who killed a man found dead in a northern liberties recording studio. the discovery was made in the basement of superior sound

studios, yesterday morning, that's at thirds and willow. police say the victim is 30 years old, he was stabbed and shot several times. officers also found a bloody screwdriver near the body. the victim's name has not yet been released, no arrest haves been made. >> more fall-out now for the sexual harrassment scandal involving half weinstein. the board that produces cents the oscars has ousted the movie mogel from it membership , as we report, it happens as another actress is accusing weinstein of sexual misconduct. >> harvey weinstein's fall from a list to out cast, now includes a rebuke from hill wood's elite. 594 member boards of the academy of motion picture arts and sciences voted saturday to revoke weinstein's lifetime membership. in a statement, board of governors said it over well overwhelmingly agreed on the oscar ouster, not simply just to separate ourselves from someone who does not respect

the respect every his colleagues, but also to send a message that the era of wilfull ignorance, shameful column police at this and sexual predatory behavior and workplace harrassment in our industry is over. academy rarely exercises its power to expel a member. dozens of women have accused the movie mogel of misconduct, including, sexual assault. now, harvey's brother and business partner bob weinstein is also speaking out. he told the hollywood reporter : i have a brother that's in defensible and crazy i want him to get the justice he deserves. i'm mortified and discussed by my brother's actions, and i'm sick for the victims, and i feel for them. that list every accusers now includes actress eva green. she told variety she pushed weinstein away after he fos dollars himself on her in paris. she said the incident left her shocked and discussed. cbs news.

"eyewitness news" reporter anita oh, joins us live this morning, from the art museum with more on this special cause. good morning, anita. >> reporter: good morning, jan well, organizers say that events like these are specially important in our area, rate of new hiv inspection three times greater than the rational average. set up still underway here, but as you can me? last year's video the turn out quite large. >> this year expecting 10,000 people to participate, and have asked each person to raise at least $50, do the math, a lot of money raised for research and fighting the stigma. also, free hiv at the time g here at the event. and rob rickert, the executive director of the aids funds, explains the important work that's being done. >> the most important thing is to recognize that the epidemic continues to impact our

>> never in my entire life. >> the area has been dealing with the wet weather, all weekends long, but relief is in site. conditions there are expected to clear up, later tonight. well, not to that extent, but we've had a little rain and drizzle in our area this weekend. >> yes, it has been a little bit on the damp and dreary side, like you said. now, i won't give it a total, you know, kind of awful grade for the weekends because it has been warm enough, that even though it has been a little bit dreary, it has been a little bit cloudy, if you've been outside, it has felt decent, anyway, now, here this morning, it is definitely a warm, mild start to sunday to say the least. up looking toward reading, little bit tough to seep, but there is some fog, there is the drizzle coming down here early on in the day, but temperatures sitting at 62 degrees, very, very warm air, getting brought into the region on the back of some
