nicole, i didn't quite expect to come to a quilt show and find what i found. sure, there are 144 incredibly amazing quilts that are like works of art winning best of show, and places of every range, within every application. but when i found to be most interesting about these quilts was something that i never expected, the inspiration behind these quilts, were of people, and that it was people that inspired these works of art and the quilters that put so much time into what they have made. take a look. >> it is a different. >> reporter: when lou at a quilt is there so much to be scene but look a little deeper and is there even more to be said. >> i have quilts that migrate grandmother made and i never knew her, and when i wrap myself in the quilt, i feel like, you know, she's still around. >> reporter: inside brookhaven municipal building the gymnasium is being covered in quilts for 2017 under cover

quilters quilt show. the theme this year is so many memories. >> this is a memory quilt with t-shirts. >> reporter: some quilts are shared pieces of the pennsylvania from the 1800s, others pearl harbor, notice red dots and red, white and blue stars of kathleen's quilt >> we traveled all over, and my mother, before the bombing, and in hawaii, and they were pearl harbor survivors, initially i intended to give them as a veterans quilt and then one of the other ladies, said i think you should just keep it for yourself in honor of your father. >> reporter: for some love was need that will threaded quilts in memorial like for fallen officer jai coalson. >> his mother, a year later, made this quilt that honors ja i. >> reporter: showing one of the kind people that we need inspired the one of the kind art that we make.

>> my daughter was often bull ied in high school and when jai was around no one dared bully her. he was a hero. he was a local boy. so that makes it really special that sheila, his mother let us display this quilt so that we could honor him locally. >> reporter: i don't know if you can feel what i'm feeling right now. i hope you are feeling what i'm feeling right now because i think best way to describe it, i was talking to joy, joy said a quilt is like a hug, and even of those that you have lost are memorialized in a quilt, when you wrap yourself around it, it is like that person is always with you so, quite a moving exhibition here, of quilts in book brookhaven and did not expect this and i was just moved to pieces, really. make sure you come check out this incredible quilt show happening all weekend long, and, it really moved me.
