southbound, between route 168 and route 42, we've got two lanes block there, due to construction causing major back up in this area so pack the patience over in new jersey morning also, river road between upper ferry road and 29 in new jersey the road closed this use 95 as the alternate. this should be clearing out hopefully in the next few minutes. looking at the wide map, pretty good across most of pa. but as i said head over into new jersey, some problems there. we look 95 southbound, one of those problem spots, the minor delays as you head toward girard avenue. and your normal slow down spot , right around amezega. jim, rahel, back over to you. >> pat, thank you. back to breaking news now this morning out of northeast philadelphia, where shots were fired at police earlier this morning. this happened on bustleton avenue and robbins street in mayfair. police say responding to nearby robbery when they stopped the suspect. that's when they say the man started shooting at them

before running to hide in a alley. caught up to the suspect and arrested him. no one was hurt. >> racist text messages, spark a school fight calling for police officers at washington township high. >> "eyewitness news" reporter trang do live outside the school now in washington township, where, trang, both parent and student say they're concerned. >> yes, that's right, rahel. they spoke last night at meeting head here at the high school. to address their concerns. meanwhile, student are taking action on their own, to show that hate speech will not be tolerated here. >> most people, with this issue going on for a long time ... >> washington township student , parent, administrators gathered at the high school thursday night, for candid discussion on race relations and district response to an alarming incidents involving student this week. >> i don't want my child or anybody to come here and feel threatened or intimidated or anything. >> tuesday night, a private

group text conversation among several student was shared to social media. the text relates to profanity and racial slurs including the "n" word. on wednesday, when other student confronted those involved in the group text, it prompted a fight at the high school. seen here in a cell phone video, also posted to social media. a mid growing tensions, and unfounded rumors of more violence, additional police officers were on hand at the school thursday. while some parent rush to pull their children out of class. >> kind of speaking out about it, i had like little mental breakdown in lunchtime today. i was crying, all of my friends trying to make sure i was okay. >> i think it is a disgrace. think think should be punished i don't think that that word is appropriate to be used. and i think they should be held accountable for their actions. >> dozens every students who chose to stay in school stage a sit in in the lobby against the racist messages. >> we all came together. we decided to protest it, because the issue was so much bigger than just our school.

>> the superintendent applauded student for speaking out, and hope confronting the issues will bring about positive change in the community. >> the hope would be that in addition to there being significant punishment, for these kinds of aggressions, that we obviously do what we can to make something positive out whatever appears to be something so negative. >> and we're told all of the student involved in sending those text messages and the resulting fight have been suspended for ten days. meanwhile, school administrators also met with local leaders of the naacp to discuss solutions moving forwards. live from washington township high school. i'm trang do, cbs-3, " eyewitness news," rahel, jim, back to you. >> all right, trang, thank you >> in other news this morning, philadelphia says it is in the running to lands amazon's second headquarters, more than 100us cities are bidding to be the tech company's newest home the barnes foundation hosed a thank you event yesterday for everyone who works on philly's pitch. the city put together an extensive video campaign for its proposal to amazon.

mayor jim kenney said amazon's presence would have huge impact for philadelphia residents. >> all those young kids, real ly have an opportunity to step in to the amazon space, the right resources and the right time and effort give tone them. >> well, mayor got all choke up there. well, philadelphia has three sites ready for amazon. they include schuylkill yards near 30th street station, university city square, which is near drexel, and the navy yards. amazon will decide on a location at some point next year. wilmington is another local city trying to lands amazon's new headquarters, and in new jersey, princeton university is backing its own state sales pitch to the tech company. by the way, amazon ceo is a princeton alum. larger cities like st. louis are competing, as well. amazon's current headquarters are in seattle. >> the nation's capitol now, the white house chief of staff is defending his boss, general john kelly tried to clarify

thinking every changing the subject, no selfies for jim for the rest of the day. >> rid. >> storm scan3, yes, very, very quiet. we have obviously been very much above average as of late. if you look real closely at that graphic, though, what you notice is that granted part of northwestern pa, parts of the great lakes, may ends up weather, but our area wasn't necessarily included in that. of course, location is critical when talking about this kind of stuff, but also important to remember that technically the winter still a long time away. and you can talk all you want about trends, but when it boiles down to the nitty-gritty, localization of the forecast, that gets way more difficult to predict, the further out it gets. so, as we get closer, we will be issuing winter forecast here from cbs-3, but it is a little too soon to have any accuracy on that kind of thing as it pertains to our local area. that is the key here, when talking about meso, micro scale, talk a lot more in generalities the bigger zone you're covering. dew points, we switch gears

the allegheny onramp, being pushed quickly to the left, that means, it is causing some major slow downs as we look even beyond that. this is 95 southbound, at girard. some delays in this area too. pretty much used to it if you drive in this area at 6:18 a.m. so a slow go 95 south. the vine st. expressway, though, looking beautiful this morning. no delays to speak of in this area if you are headed between the city for the schuylkill or the opposite direction toward 95. also, 42 freeway, picking up little bit. some minor traffic going toward 295 and toward the city of philadelphia. and then also, 295, between route 168 and 42, the cones have been pick up here. more construction, still major gaper delay in this area. so it is causing a slow-down as you see, 7 miles per hour, pack the patience early this morning, guys. >> all right. well, pat, jim, after a tough loss to begin the season, the ers are back in philly ready to play in front of their home crowd. >> and the saturday down with pat gallen to discuss pretty

northbound, everything looking pretty good, but it is jammed southbound taking you 31 minutes in that opposite direction, and that number certainly going to build as the morning progresses, also this is the schuylkill westbound at city avenue. starting to see some building volume here. much in the way it is at 6:30 a.m. most mornings same here on the schuylkill. also, ben franklin bridge, it is slowing down head from camden into the city. but still not bad considering 6:33 a.m. in the morning, 259 we've been telling you about this, between 168 and route 42 , since cleared but gaper delays in this area. jim, back over to you. >> thank you, pat. there will be more police officers at washington township high school this morning. that's after a racist text messages sparked a fight inside the school. >> the parent spoke at a meeting with school officials last night there is all started with racially charged text messages that were later posted on social media.
