center in philadelphia, this is cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> he is six. >> police say a child may have pulled the trigger in north philadelphia shooting his three-year-old brother in the head: good evening, i'm natasha brown. thanks for joining us. right now police are trying to figure out exactly how these young boys had access to the gun. alycia nieves is live at temple university hospital on the latest on the victim's condition. alycia. >> reporter: natasha, that three-year-old little boy is here at temple hospital in critical condition. authorities are still trying to understand exactly what happened earlier this afternoon but for right now, they do believe that this three-year-old boy was shot by his six-year-old brother. philadelphia police called to this home along north 18th street at 3:00 in the afternoon. when they arrived they found a three-year-old shot in the head. police rushed the young boy to temple hospital. authorities believe the

three-year-old, his six-year-old brother along with their 12-year-old brother were all home alone. they somehow got access to a handgun in the home and on the second floor in the bedroom, the gun went off. authorities say the six-year-old may have been the one who pulled the trigger. people in this community aren't just praying for the three-year-old shot but for his six-year-old brother, too. >> a six-year-old who has shot the little three-year-old he don't know no better. he probably thought it was a toy. he's six. >> reporter: this shooting saddens those here in the tioga section of the city but it also frustrates some. >> they shouldn't have had access, no way. if they -- when they left, they should have took it with them. no, it's unbelievable and it's unacceptable. >> reporter: and again, the three-year-old little boy is here at temple hospital. he is in critical condition. he is fighting for his life. we are told by police that they have been talking to his two brothers and they have gotten in contact with the parents. authorities are still talking to the parents.

anyone with information on what happened here, you are asked to contact police. for now reporting live outside temple hospital, alycia nieves, cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> alycia, thank you so much. also tonight the search is on for a gunman who shot four people on a basketball court in chester delaware county tonight. police say the suspect fired from an elevated position along the 1200 block of carla's lane. this happened just before 6 o'clock. the victims were hit in the lower body area. right now no word on their condition or what led to this shooting. also police say a man suspected of a double stabbing in maryland barricaded himself inside a relative's home in darby, chester county, today. tactical teams and negotiators were outside the house on summit street for about four hours trying to get the suspect to come out. they did succeed at about 6:00 p.m. the man is suspected of stabbing his wife and three-year-old son in hartford county, maryland and is now awaiting extradition on attempted murder charges. at least two philadelphia

police officers meantime suffered injuries during a police protest in center city today. hundreds demonstrated at the international association of chiefs of police met inside the convention center. "eyewitness news" reporter henry rosoff was there. >> reporter: cell phone video shows a scuffle between police and protesters near the frank rizzo statue. it happened a few blocks from the convention center which was hosting a meeting of the major cities chiefs association. police confirm at least two officers suffered minor injuries and several arrests were made. hours before the violence there was a march that made its way through the streets of center city. that crowd called for all law enforcement to be abolished. several onlookers even those who have some problems with police thought the message was a little extreme. >> if something happens we need order and police, so to me i say they shouldn't abolish police but they should work together. >> reporter: meanwhile inside the conference the headliner attorney general jeff sessions wasted little

time discussing an increase in violent crime based on the most recent fbi data. >> it's a troubling trend. >> reporter: but sessions promised the federal government would help get things back on track. >> our goal is to make every community safer, especially the most vulnerable. >> reporter: the offer of assistance was not well received by local leaders in philadelphia. >> wants to lay crime at the feet of immigrants that's pretty bad. >> reporter: the sessions led justice department has threatened to pull federal funding for local police in sanctuary cities like philly which limit cooperation with immigration officials. >> i think that's very counterproductive in terms of bringing people together. >> reporter: in philadelphia, henry rosoff cbs "eyewitness news." >> well, police say four protesters were issued citations for disorderly conduct and two will face charges of assault on police. as for the injured officers, we're told those officers were injured in a minor way. both officers are expected to be treated and released. also, sessions talked about the $100 million in grant

money that will be going to state and local police departments for the hiring of more officers. and in other news now a funeral service was held today for one of the four u.s. soldiers killed in the african nation of niger. family and friends honored sergeant la david johnson as he was laid to rest in hollywood, florida. it comes as the fbi joins the investigation into how the soldiers were killed on october 4th. and they also want to know why johnson's body was found almost a mile from the ambush site and how he became separated from his comrades. secretary of state rex tillerson is in saudia arabia tonight. it is the first stop on his week long tour of the middle east and south asia. in saudia arabia tillerson will attempt to seal a new alliance between the saudis and iraq. u.s. officials see the alliance as key to countering iran's growing influence across the region. now in a strong show of unity all five living former presidents attended tonight's one america concert to support

assassination of president john f. kennedy. president donald trump tweeted today that he is planning to authorize the release of classified government documents. that could reveal new details about the long debated crime. a 1992 law known as the john f. kennedy assassination records collection act requires more than 3,000 previously classified documents be made public by the law's 25th anniversary and that date is coming up thursday, october 26th. president trump's former chief strategist steve bannon delivers a blistering attack on former o president george w. bush. bannon responded to mr. bush's criticism of president trump's america first agenda. >> there's not been a more destructive presidency than george bush's. it's clear he didn't understand anything he was talking about. he equates the industrial revolution ago cultural revolution globalization. he has no earthly idea whether

>> welcome back. police in tampa are investigating the shooting deaths of three people in the same neighborhood. they think this could be the work of a serial killer at this point. detectives are looking for this person seen on surveillance video. on thursday, anthony nuboa was shot and killed after taking the wrong bus home from work. it happened about 100 yards away from where benjamin mitchell was killed october 9. on october 13 monica hopper's body was found in a vacant lot. 50 women accused harvey weinstein of sexual harassment and on friday another accuser came forward. heather kerr says weinstein made her touch him inappropriately during a business meeting in the 80's when she was young and new to the business. claims made by 38-year-old italian actress are now being investigated by lapd because

her case is within the statute of limitations. that actress says weinstein bullied his way into her hotel room back in 2013. and fox news renewed the contract of former host bill o'reilly shortly after he paid off a colleague who was threatening to sue him for alleged sexual misconduct. that is according to a new york times expose say published today but o'reilly was booted from fox news in april after another new york times article detailed payoffs to other women who had accused him of sexual harassment or verbal abuse. o'reilly denied those allegations. the first night of chestnut hill's harry potter festival was interrupted by a small group of people that were holding signs. take a look here. a chestnut hill shop owner sent us these photos from last night. hillary oh carol says the group was yelling racist bigoted and misogynistic things. she responded by handing out hate has no home here signs.

she says she took the signs from people's lawns and she says if you happen to be missing then stop by isabella sparrow for a new one. local boxer giving back to the community in a very big way this weekend. damond allen hosted his second annual food drive and soup kitchen in west philadelphia today. "eyewitness news" at shepherd recreation center along 57th and haverford. allen and his friends like ukee washington fed the homeless and anyone in need in that community and they also gave away winter coats. >> everything to give back to the community because this recreation center west philadelphia shepherd recreation kept me off the streets kept my friends off the streets and just have a a lot of family ties. >> allen started his boxing career at shepherd recreation center. there is a first class gymnasium downstairs there. allen at a top light weight contender. he's undefeated at 13 and o. october, it is national breast cancer wearness month.

65, so beating that by almost 15 degrees despite a pretty chilly start we were down at 49 degrees this morning, right around average. we had all that sunshine, that dry air in place and that allowed temperatures to warm very efficiently throughout the day today. temperatures right now getting a little cool under clear sky conditions. in mount pocono 44 degrees. we're at 50 in allentown, 51 degrees in a.c. but still at 57 in dover and 60 degrees in philadelphia. overnight tonight, falling back to 57 degrees, partly cloudy, pretty comfortable with those winds staying calm and then for our day tomorrow, mostly sunny and warm, shooting well above average once again, up to 77 degrees. another great looking today day and it is a great looking evening. as we look at center city philadelphia from new jersey, palmyra cove nature park neighborhood network showing us we have clear sky conditions in place and satellite imagery confirming that. we had patchy high level cloud cover swinging through earlier in the evening hours. that's really all we have all across the region up and down the i-95 corridor but if we pan out west a lot more action

going on right now. check out this squall line roaring eastbound, tornado watches and severe thunderstorm watches in effect for parts of the southern plains. this is our next weather system that's going to be moving in as we head into the day on tuesday and providing our next rain chance. so that will drop in with a lot of energy and moisture. strong storm system so expected widespread rain on tuesday. also the possibility of some embedded thunderstorms with potentially some gusty winds so it could be pretty active day of weather. we at this point though do need the rain and the rainfall deficit for the month so far over a inch in philadelphia but we're not going to get it tomorrow. just another round of sunshine in store. gorgeous day down the shore, pleasant and comfy 72 degrees. a great day for a hike in the poconos, 72 and sunshine perfection. and then of course the big game, eagles taking on washington at the linc, temperatures pretty warm at kickoff, 70 degrees mostly cloudy conditions. could run into maybe a stray shower as you're heading home from the linc, temperature 67 degrees after the game and

then of course talking about the orionid, the peak of the meteor shower is right now, 20 meteors per hour, best viewing after midnight. also known to produce some of those bright fire balls. we had one of those on wednesday over new jersey hoping for another one. also we do have a fingernail moon so we won't see a lot of interference from that ambient moonlight. over the next several days temperatures staying in the 70's. morning fog on monday. humid day on tuesday, breezy as well with rain looking likely some heavy at times with that chance of storms. quieting down and cooling down as we head into midweek next week. temperatures return much closer to average by wednesday at 64. tuesday looks cool but a beautiful day, nice day for carving the pumpkin there, 61 degrees and sunshine. >> is that carving pumpkin weather. >> that is carving pumpkin weather. >> carving pumpkin weather. >> that should be officially carving pumpkin day. we've come up with it. thanks lauren. lesley let's talk about sports. >> worried about the eagles.

thursday night by the predators flyers are back in action against the oilers this afternoon. first period no score, flyers on the power play shayne gostisbehere shoots. rebound goes to the captain. he knows what to do. that's his fifth goal of the season. flyers take the lead. still leading the second period but the oilers patrick maroon takes it from patrick. he'll tie up the game there. late in the third flyers on the attack. simmonds has your game winning goal. flyers beat the oilers two to one and good news for the eagles wide receiver cornerback josh norman will be missing monday night's game with fractured ribs. jay gruden said this week carson wentz has developed as fast as any quarterback he's seen had this career. very high praise for the second year quarterback. right now he's the odds on favorite to win the m.v.p. but doug pederson says number 11 isn't paying attention to any of that talk.

>> ♪ >> welcome back everyone. if one thing is true, it is that it's never too late to do something that you've always wanted to try even if you've been waiting, say, 80 years or so. a woman from frankford indiana reached that milestone on her 80th birthday and today she literally took a leap of faith. judy robbins jumped out of a plane with her family by her side. a special organization grants wishes to older people who never realized their dreams. >> everyone at the nursing home says oh, aren't you scared to death, you know, i wouldn't do that. i said there's nothing to it. that it was like reaching out and catching the face of god. >> wow. judd dee says she was never really that nervous. she quite simply took the leap proving it's never too late to do what you love. back in a moment.

noises coming from a hole in the ground of the when the noises turned into barking he worked with his friends to save a dog who likely had been trapped there for more than a week. >> when i heard the dog barking i couldn't -- i had to go in. i love dogs so much. i'm happy i got the dog but it wasn't -- it was actually really fun to rappel down into the cave and i do love caves and mines. >> doing a little bit of research on social media the three teenagers discovered that cheyenne was missing. the dog was missing after receiving a clean bill of health they returned dog to very grateful owners. so nice little homecoming. that's a great little story. an great ending on our weather. look at that sunday forecast, lauren. >> stretch of sunshine. a beautiful stretch of days. tomorrow mostly sunny, 77 well above average. still warm into tuesday, looking all right but humid on monday for the eagles game. tuesday showers and thunderstorms looking likely. need your umbrella on tuesday.
