5:31 am
battle with stomach cancer. >> that story really making the rounds. his nickname the dutch destroyer, true inspiration to carson and a lot of us. >> great game. great morning. >> katie looks like the rain at least whether we walk in had held off. but it felt like it moved in. >> not so much any more. i guess that was waking up at the god awful hour thee did to get to work on time. at least we didn't have to run into wet roadways, but the fate not for all of us. walking out to absolutely drenching rain, that's specially true for the southern counties here. take a look at south jersey, cumberland, cape may counties getting clocked right now, as is sussex county, pouring down at row hope. that will particular field camera, also, starting to see that rain pick up in places like bet him. as i just look off camera here to some of the shore shots, cape may, that camera's blowing around in the very vicious winds that's starting to pick up. this is potent front, guys. what i want you to notice about the winds speeds, not only the peak that they're at
5:32 am
right now, very gusty start to the morning. you're sustained winds is currently checking in at 33 miles per hour at the airport after all. look to the west. do you see how there is little bit of those two winds starting to come together off to the west? specially if you are watching us, you can see, that that's the leading edge of the front. that's what needs to get through. so there is very significant clash going on right now. back across central pa. that needs to move east. it will take pretty much the whole day for that to take place, so not only are we stuck with rain, some heavy at times, also likely to see some thunderstorms which could be locally strong throughout the course of the day. so, little later in the show, we talk about the impact we're expecting out of this, but for now, the time something as surges rain currently and through the morning over spreading our area, and right up until about the 7:00 p.m. rush here we will ends up with the rain still over spreading the area. now, through the evening, there will still be rain showers, but the bulk of this begins to taper with time. so it is basically all day event, meisha, but every part
5:33 am
of the day has little something different up its sleeve. >> yes. only thing i could think on that, katie, so all day long you will be affect the by this in your commute. so i would just leave your homes early no matter what time of the day you're walking out the door. good morning, looking outside right now, the vine near 95. you can see kind of wetness on the roadway, casino whatever we're dealing with right now, headlights moving in the eastbound direction, 59 academy, same story here, starting to build levels there we do have accident in horsham first, blair mill road at briar wood drive. we have another accident out there, south harrison township , new jersey, this is franklinville road at commissioner road. and we also have a couple every downed trees, as well, this one downed tree and wires in plymouth meeting. allen wood road closed between ridge pike and brooke road. use an alternate. column well road your best bet there. down tree, dennis township, new jersey, delsea drive still closed at creek mill road. creek mill road will be your best bet. plus, construction crews still
5:34 am
out there. rain or shine there. still out there working. we will be talking more about this coming up in the next ten minutes. rahel and jim back to you. >> meisha, thank you. it is another win for the eagles to maintain. best records in the nfl. >> rahel, i'm telling you, we start fashion trends with this suit. the eagles got off to slow start by quarterback carson wents lit it up with the game tying 64-yard touchdown pass to matt collins. wentz had four touchdowns on the night dan it with his arm and his legs. >> look at this great escape act. wentz pons out of the pile for first down run. the eagles win, 34 to 24, and the team is solidly behind carson wentz. >> check like a vet. not just second year in the league, like i been doing this for a long time. then throw a dime for a touchdown. >> i feel confident in all of the guys, i just got to get the ball to them, make the plays, and we're picking up some big chunks down the feel, and guys are winning, and i'm just putting there. >> eagles however did lose
5:35 am
linebacker jordan hicks in the first quarter and then nine time pro bowl offensive lineman jason peters, we'll finds out today how serious just those injuries are after the prime time win fans told us they're ready to fly high with the eagles. >> e-a-g-l-e-s, eagles! >> i thought they played great i think they're well on their way to be the number one in the nfc wild, awesome in, there place is electric. and that was a huge win. >> and another look now at the amazing escape by carson wentz , somehow he manages to avoid washington defenders, pops out of the pile, to get huge first down, led to another eagles touchdown. that's one part every big signature win, angelo cataldi of sister station 94wip. >> i got to tell you, it is carson wentz day in philadelphia after what happened. i was just one of the more remarkable performances with to receive from a guy in the second year in the nfl. the fans are in love with him now. that play he made where he
5:36 am
escaped a whole hoard of redskins skin defenders, was one of the best plays we've seen all year. it is not ever for an eagles quarterback. the kid makes the big plays. he makes the long throws. he makes the short throws. he runs the team. we might really have something here. you know? we have told ourselves that before, the players, but carson wentz may be our ticket to the big game. real soon. >> and fans agree with angelo showering wentz with mvp chants throughout the night. >> now, guys, before the eagles kick off, sixers got a fun night of sport underway, after o and three start to the season, simmons, embiid and company looking to shake and knock the first win on the road in detroit. -- detroit. ben simmons takes it to joel embiid, who drains the three, sixers up nine after one.
5:37 am
second quarter, embiid rumbles to the rim. throws it down, big fellow. sixers up 13 at the half. ben simmons, with a historic start to the season, he knocks in first ever triple double. twenty-one points, 12 rebounds , antenna cyst. embiid, he has 30-point and nine boards. the sixers get their first win of the season, 97 to 86. now the sixers come back home tomorrow night. they'll take on james harden and the houston rocket at 7:00 but jim, rahel, what a night for phillies sports. got to love it. >> thank you, patrick. we have breaking news to report this morning, philadelphia police make a shocking discovery in the city 's tioga section, woman's body stuffed inside after trash bag. >> "eyewitness news" reporter trang do live at police headquarters with the very lateness this investigation. trang, good morning, what do we know? >> well, good morning, rahel, jim. still, so many trist surrounding this horrific crime including the woman's identity. her face was so badly beaten
5:38 am
in a police are not even sure how old she is. but take a look at this video of the scene overnight around 1:00 a.m., police and paramedics responded to a 911 call of a person lying on a sidewalk under a train trestle on the 1800 block every westmoreland street. they arrived to find an adult woman with trauma to her head, and her face, blood on her clothing, and her legs and torso inside after trash bag. medics pronounced the woman dead, less than 20 minute later. >> right flu we don't have or know the cause of death. but it appears that there was some sort every trauma to her face, also, her head. the fact that her body is in a trash bag, of course, is very suspicious. >> the woman's bodily next go to the medical examiners office to undergo an autopsy to determine exactly how she died. but for now, live outside police headquarters, aim trang do, cbs-3, "eyewitness news,"
5:39 am
rahel, and jim, back to you. >> thank you, trang. two advanced urgent care clinics in philadelphia among six raided by federal authorities across our region, one willow grove was also searchedment the fbi task force investigating whether prescriptions for synthetic opioids were being sold. some worked near the willow grove location say it is suspected something wasn't quite right. >> when go past and you see a lot of people just hanging out , you kind of look, it looks suspicious, but you weren't positive or sure about it. >> every day 30, 40, opens hour and a half before it opens. >> advanced urgent care locations were also part of the investigation. at this point, it is unclear if those raids led to any arrest. >> here is a helped. if you live in pennsylvanian still have small registration sticker on your license plate, could you get pulled over. penndot stopped issuing the stickers at the end of last year. >> penndot spokesperson says there have been instances
5:40 am
getting pulled over out of state. >> explain it to the officer, that pennsylvania's laws have changed, no longer requiring a sticker to be affixed to the plate. you know, the officer will easily be able to check that out and clear up any complaint >> now, you can remove the sticker but it is not required >> former fbi director james comey is coming clean about his social media use. >> it is something that has been rumor for months, we'll tell you about it just ahead. >> also ahead, pennsylvania man fields an ambulance with two crew members still inside. we'll tell but their daring escape. >> is the halloween season. we will show you more of the pet costume competition when we come back.
5:43 am
>> going to live long and prosper. i have been practicing that for the last couple every minutes, the hit show back for second season on its all axis platform, the digital prescription service has not announce add date or episode yet. >> and this little piggy, ended up in a police car. don't worry, though,'s not in trouble, well, actually he was , until officers in nebraska west crude him. this is wilbur, they scooped her up off a highway, took him to a humane society, where
5:44 am
he'll be put up for adoption. they named him after the pig from charlotte's web. >> getting into the holiday spirit, around 70 pets enters annual costume competition in the philippines sunday. philippine animal welfare society organized the scarred cats and dogs event. dogs, cats, even guinea pig, showed up in their holiday bestment look at the glasses, organizers awarded pets prizes for those groups and costumes. very happy to report that i've chose rain costume from my little golden doodle, pictures to come. and i'm excited to see the girl costumes. >> nothing more fun than dressing up animals and babies >> yes. >> but the poor pets, sometimes i feel embarrased for them. >> cat get very upset about it , which is why i never bother. but dogs, they like. >> teddy likes it. >> i took care, made sure i got him something he would like. >> something comfortable. >> something warm. >> nothing too heavy. you don't want to way the poor thing down. >> we might want something
5:45 am
heavy and warm the next few days? >> well done. >> good transition, because you're right, temperatures are about to take serious plummet. meantime still really warm outside. today is like the total transition that takes place here. actually, starting things off here with one of our most brand new hd cameras, "skycam 3" overlooking cape may. i wanted to show this to you, obviously still dark, you know the shaking going on in this is well mounted camera, folks. it is still shaking around, because the winds, you know, real now match for the wind that continues to pick up here at the shore. specially, at the shore, you'll find some very, very strong wind gusts in the next couple of hours with this potent frontal passage. so expect that. and also, expect that the rain will be with us throughout prep much the entire day. eyewitness weather watch ers are absolutely recording that we've got some rainout there. and see the different here in s temperatures, already down into the 50's, up through part at least of southeastern pa. but the vast majority of the watcher reports are very, very warm at the onset. 71 degrees comes in from gary this morning. he's seeing the rainout in
5:46 am
seoul. 71 degrees, though. so he can tell the front starting to move into the area , as of his check at 4:47 a.m. early this morning, he had gusts as high as 36 miles per hour, there are some spots that are exceed that already. i want to go super hyper local here into cherry hill where we're got multiple reports coming in. but lynn report the winds, in cherry hill, at 74 degrees. and she mentioned that she already had 32-mile per hour gusts and that she is hearing things flying around outside. so i wouldn't necessarily say that everywhere there will be damaging winds event. but certainly you may want to think before you hit the road here today, especially not raining, to secure some of the loose items that you may still have signature out on the deck perhaps, so nice in recent days to enjoy. that will take a look outside here on storm scan3, the storm itself is showing very nice organization, so you have very potent frontal passage underway. the problem is, this front needs time. it will need pretty much the whole day to get through. yes, back edge to it, but it is sluggish. so it takes basically all day for it to totally cross.
5:47 am
that means, especially if we see any breaks in the clouds, we will ends up in a severe weather threat here specially for the eastern half of our area. the possibility not only certainly very drenching downpours which are already seeing, but very strong wind gusts as well, i don't want want to totally rule out a tornado. obviously not a guarantee. stick with us on that, but that's at least minor concern, very low risk but a concern nonetheless, we want to tell but. that will meanwhile look at the current winds gust at the airport, 47-mile per hour gusts reported over the last hour. it is just whipping winds out there right now. leading edge of this front. this will slow you down, whether raining or not, you will have winds swept leaves, that kinds of thing crossing your windshield to slow you down with thunderstorms hat g into the afternoon, then reign thankfully into the evening. but behind this front, i mean, nosedive city here. you're back down to the upper 60s where they should be cents , skies start to clear, coolest day comes thursday, then nice rebounds through saturday, meisha. >> kate which all of the winds talk becomes yes, seeing a lot
5:48 am
of downed trees as well. so, already all right, let's get into it then. schuylkill near spring garden, looking okay. levels starting to builds. a lot of you heeding the warning. should get out there early because katie mentioned the rain will come. because that far it is going to be very slow. no doubt about it. delaware county 95 north at 452, take that all the way up to the airport. then basically what you are looking like, see levels starting to build now. we also have couple every accidents. so one in horsham. blair mill road at briar wood drive. we have another one, south harrison township new jersey. this one, a tree fell on pick-up truck, franklin ville road, commissioner road. so for those couple of ones might want it give yourself couple. extra minutes to maneuver, plus downed trees i was talking about, tennis township new jersey 47 near delsea drive still closed at paper mill road. you will have to use alternate creek mill road will be your best bet there. we have another downed tree in new jersey, 322 being black horse pike, closed, use an alternate, a.c. expressway or tuckahoe road, probably going to be your best bet. all of these areas are going to start to get busy as well
5:49 am
headed out the door this morning, then another downed tree, as well, this is downed tree and wires, in plymouth meeting. allen wood road, that's also closed, between ridge pike and brooke road. have to use alternate here, as well. colds well lane is going to be your best bet. oh, hey, look, beep beep, you know what i am ' doing? staring and waiving but also shaking my fingers, you better driver at posted speeds, right , jim? >> yes. >> route 30 white horse pike, between warwick road and over sham avenue. one lane in each direction. i got to say, busy morning already. jim, back over to you. >> man in police custody this morning after they say he stole an ambulance, with the crew still inside. the chaos unfolded at a hospital near danville, pennsylvania. police say this man ran out of the emergency room, jumped into an ambulance, and took off. well, little did he know there were two crew members still inside. they had to jump out the back of the ambulance, and the suspect kept going. the chase ended in a crash at nearby cvs. there police say he ran inside , jumped over the
5:50 am
pharmacy counter and tried to steel some pills. that's when officers caught up with him and arrested him. >> wild story there. former fbi director james comey may soon give president trump a run for his money. comey's twitter account is now public knowledge after he tweeted this picture from iowa with a note: good-bye iowa on the road home. continues, got to get back to riding. will try to tweet and useful ways. he has been off the radar since fired by trump last may, does have a book due out next spring. we'll be back after this.
5:53 am
>> so many memorable stories over the last five decades. now, new book is detailing some of these moments, and getting us behind the scenes look at the broadcast. >> i recently spoke with the executive producer of the show , and the author of 50 years of 60 minutes. and asked him: what has made this program stands the test of time? >> i think that the most important part is that we have stuck to our values of overall these 50 years, we really haven't changed how we look at stories and how we go about
5:54 am
doing them. we've evolved significantly. we've look different. we feel different. we're little bit more newsy than we used to be, we like to cover current stories but the basic standards in values that were at the very beginning and at the heart of cbs news at the beginning, we still live by, and care about, and i think that the viewer sees that. i think that they -- i think that the quality and the kind of stories i telling, and the ends result, looks and feels like it belongs on 60 minutes, and hopefully it is fulfilling , and people get enough out of it that they come back for another sunday. >> well some of the biggest names in journalism have work on the program. you work with don hewett, mike wallace, andy rooney. what was that like? >> yes. you know, jim, i miss them so much. i can't even say. they were just great, larger than life figures, andy rooney , you know? ed bradley. over so many years, and, you know, the great thing is that
5:55 am
they were teachers, as women, and friends. and i think it is one of the reasons that we've been able to sustain, is that it is a great collaboration, and it always has been. we work together. and we all share the same values and we talk about how to put a story tonight, and we kick it around, and we fight about it, and, you know, it is a very, i think, energetic atmosphere with which to work, and always has been. >> you know, the program has been well known for its sit- down interviews, legendary if you were to pick one, what would be your most member or be? >> i think that there have been number of mike wallace with the ayatollah is one, you know, in terms of big important interviews, i can go within the past two years and think of charlie and charity putin, incredibly memorable interview, and steve croft with president owe bamm, a and at least three, four occasions cents where it may significant news, and got little testy, but also important. so, you know, there are so
5:56 am
many, and i tried to cover the ones that really i thought made a difference, and were worth writing about. but it is incredible, if you look through 50 years, how much history sort every went through our lens. >> well the book 50 years, zero six minute, is out today. published by simon and shuster , which is a division of cbs. >> you can of course watch 60 minutes this sunday, and every sunday at 7:00. right here on cbs-3. >> we will be right back.
5:59 am
6:00 am
dress. >> well, i have to say. >> i got this amazon prime. >> this is all jim's doing right here. he said he was going to get it i didn't believe he would. i promised jim i would wear it , this is it. what do you guys think for the ladies? katie, rahel? >> you can keep it! >> well, i have to say, we're so excited. >> absolutely. >> big day, big day. all right, but let's get out the door, katie you do have serious weather talk about. >> obviously very drenching rain currently coming down, even potential for severe weather, so something we have to keep an eye on as the morning goes on, for now, what we are finding is a very filled rare, jersey, par of delaware, southeastern pa getting hit with some showers which currently are still pretty drenching. so not everyone is getting hit but kind of the theme of the day. there will be wet weather to damage. as the day progresses, but it is not necessarily what i would call a quote unquote wash out where the whole region is get being slammed at any given time.
