chestnut, fairmount, germantown, many others, cars will not be able to park on those street. there are also several bus detours, as women, so make sure to check out septa's schedule and our website at cbsphilly.com many for more detail. in the cbs-3 traffic center. i'm and a.m. did a mueller back to you. >> thank you. the suspect in the murders of two teenage boys has surrendered to police. sixteen year old brandon oliveri turned himself in after authorities announced warrant for his arrest. "eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff brings us up-to-date. >> with his hands in his pocket and hood pulled over his face, 16 year old brandon oliveri walked into police headquarters around 6:30 p.m. inside he embraced the two friends who accompanied him there. the surrendering came an hour after philadelphia police issued a warrant for oliveri siting shooting death of two peers. caleer and sal denubile, both 16, shot tuesday evening, after police say an argument

between a group of teens began outside of denubile's home. >> disheartening, to see young people resort to this type of violence over what was probably nothing but a disagreement that just popped up. >> our father -- >> in the days since, nearly 500 people attended the vick vigils for the boys, demonstrations of prayer and anguish. >> we'll never be the same again. >> miller was junior at master i charter school where he ex he'd in mathematics and basketball. denubile attended st. joe's prep and hockey. >> all of these lives ruined, two lives lost, and at least one other, you know, that will result in someone going to jail for a very long time. >> the commissioner at that oliveri entering police custody would also provide him safety. authorities say his family home was hit with over a dozen bullets. >> oliveri attended newman and

goretti high school and diocese spokesperson told me they've been working closely with police throughout this investigation and cooperating with them. they also will be offering counselling for any students who might need it. so reporting from police headquarters, alexandria love who have, cbs-3, "eyewitness news." >> delaware county authorities have given the all clear after a hazmat incident at penn crest high school. first responders arrived, just after 10:00 last night, they found a few people there who were not feeling well. it is not yet clear what made them sick but we're told everyone was treated at the scene. authorities had everything under control in just about 90 minute. >> several media outlets are now reporting the first charges filed in the investigation into russian meddling in the 2016 election. but as weijia jiang reports, the indictment is sealed. >> media reports say, a federal grand jury has approved the first charges into alleged russian meddling in the 2016 presidential

election. those charges, how much, are sealed, under order from the judge. >> we might not finds out the specifics of this case, if even for cup old every days. >> special council robert mueller was appoint in the may to lead the investigation into russia. shortly after the ouster of fb i director james comey. the probe has extended from the kremlin all the way to the president's former campaign chairman, paul manafort, facebook, even members of the first family. >> i would think that it would be something that would be almost low hanging fruit with a single person that is unable or unwilling to give mueller and his investigators anything more. >> president trump calls the quote russia thing an excuse for democrats losing the election, and he want the investigation wrapped up. >> there has been absolutely no collusion. it has been state that they have no collusion. they ought to get to the ends of it. because i think the american public is sick of it. >> congressional committees investigating russian meddling

have hearings schedule for next week. weijia jiang, cbs-3, " eyewitness news". happening today, you can walk three and a half miles on the street of philadelphia without worrying about traffic today is the second annual philly free streets event. there are no cars or trucks from fifth and indianna in north philadelphia to third and chestnut in old city the signs are up and the streets have been cleared of cars. walkers, runners and bikers will also be able to check out events in the free activity zone. >> saying true to the commitment of the neighborhoods, real excited to try this somewhere different, connecting differs neighborhoods. >> they're opening the street. it is new. it is different. see what happens. we'll just see what happens. like i have positive feelings. i have negative feelings. but we'll just go from there. >> and speaking of the mayor, mayor jim kenney plans to walk the entire route. >> food, music and costumes. all add to up a day of fun in south philadelphia. the sixth annual east passyunk

fall fest and spooky saturday gets underway in just a few hours. "eyewitness news" reporter anita oh, live along east passyunk avenue this morning, as organizers work on last minute preparations. anita, good morning. >> reporter: good morning, jan , this isn't just an event that's friendly for us, and friendly for kids, it is also pet friendly, as well, so we're here at the bark shop with the owner jacky. and this is the name same of the store, dressed up as little puppy latte, adorable. so jacky you had the store open for about three years, why did you decide to move here? >> originally moved to south philly for school, went to the university of the arts for industrial design. then i started baking treatment for amaly specifically, then just grew into the business naturally. so yes, originally just for her and her sensitive stomach, to make treats for her that was okay. >> just to see your business grow, you said there are tons of people who have been coming in for halloween costume. what do thee kinds of events do for small business owners like yourself.

why are south jerseyans so angry headlines at sweeney? up. sweeney repeatedly sided with chris christie to underfund south jersey schools, increase standardized testing like parcc, cut take-home pay for teachers, and broke his promise to fund the pensions of hundreds of thousands of new jerseyans- all while padding his own. steve sweeney says a lot of things. but the truth is, he's not on our side.

says 45 degrees in his neighborhood. couple more, let's look at this one here, 44 degrees, in is according to allen. he lives in delran, new jersey 44 degrees in his backyards. look at this adorable picture, thank you guys so much for sending in your reports. elsewhere across the region, we have temperatures that are also checking in, in the 40's, and 50's, and it is 50 degrees , in philadelphia. forty-three in allentown, mid 50's down the shore in wildwood, 43 atlantic city, 53 n millville. headed out to philly free streets, starts at 8:00. what a need way -- neat way to experience the city not having to worry about any cars, not even any park cars. temperatures in the mid 50's at 8:00. 60 degrees by 10:00 a.m. things wrapping up around the noon, 1:00 hour i think actually whether it ends, and it will be warming up into the mid 60s, by the latter part of the afternoon, forecasting high temperature of 70 degrees that's very warm for the month

of october. storm scan3, shows that high pressure is in control, actually located just off shore. so that's going to bring us pretty of sunshine throughout the day today. we remain dry. but out west notice that we have front at boundery, snow, white color there, associate the with the frontal boundary, pushing off toward the east. of course we will be dealing with the rain, also the winds that will be heading our way, as that front interact with a piece of energy from potential tropical cyclone, and also moisture associated with this as we head into the sunday nighttime frame, and also cents monday. so, we will talk all about it, that soaking rain on the way out ahead of the front, very warm as i mention today, high temperature of 70 degrees. this front pushes toward the east, area of low pressure develops along it, and actually going to deepen. so what that means? pressure will be dropping, this system will be intensifying. and as that happens,

will ramp up, cooler temperatures, feel very, very fall-like out there. totally sweater weather. totally boot weather. sunny, warm saturday. then rain heavy at times sunday. as the system makes it approach. then those winds, as it intensifies, will be really ramp up as we head into the sunday night and monday time frame. as far as rain apartments, don't take these number verbatim. what i do want you to take verbatim from me, is that we can generally expect anywhere from a widespread one to 3 inches of rainfall, across the region, there could even be some locally higher amounts , upwards of around four, have to keep an eye on those, but generally one to 3 inches of rain, can be expected. as far as winds, very breezy, eagles game kicks off at 1:00. 20-mile per hour winds gust, possible in philadelphia, but a really ramp up, sunday night into monday.

the u.s., 07% of bats like mosquitos, making them nature 's exterminator. while some bats are in the millions, some are dangerously low or in decline. some bat would be extinct from it wasn't for conservation efforts started by the philadelphia zoo back in the 1990's. vice president every education and conservation at the zoo. did graduate work back then on the tiny islands, and in the southern indian ocean where the bats are from. >> they went from less than 100 to 20,000, and now they're no longer critically in danger >> you're part that far. >> i was, it is so exciting. i got a chance to save a species. >> antis the season, october happens to be bat appreciation month. >> what do you think a bat is associated with halloween. >> probably because people think they like turn into like vanpires. >> they don't? >> no there is one called a vampire bat but they don't

streets. around the 8:00 hour. temperatures in the mid 50's, a solid amount of sunshine into the afternoon, going to allow us to warm up rather quickly by the noon hour, 65 degrees, and i'm forecasting high temperature for today though around 70. and guess what? that's very warm. specially for the month of october. but that beautiful weather won't be sticking around, storm scan3 shows that we're quiet for now. but there is rain. that's located out to our west that is associated with a frontal boundery. that pushes east. and it is also going to interact with some energy from a tropical entity, and also some moisture from that, to bring us quite a mess after day on sunday. so some heavy rain possible. we could see rain apartments generally anywhere from one to 3 inches, but, look, higher apartments up to 4 inches not out of the question. this would cause localized street flooding even here in philadelphia. and then the winds really ramp up as we head into sunday night. more details coming up in your full forecast in just a bit. >> chelsey, weaver to enjoy today.

city, amanda, thank you. speaking of, imagine walking down the street without worrying about traffic? today is the second annual philly free street event. roads are closed to cars and trucks from fifth and indianna in fair hills, to thirds and chestnut in old city. that's where we find " eyewitness news" reporter natasha brown who picks up the story. >> the signs are up. the streets have been cleared of parked cars. the path is clear for philly free streets on saturday. >> staying true to the neighborhoods, excited to try this somewhere different in differs neighborhoods. >> 8:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m., three and a half mile stretch from third and chestnut, north , to fifth and indianna, in the heart of latino philadelphia. no cars will be allowed, only pedestrians, and bike traffic will be welcomed. >> it will be really fun day. last year we saw kids in strollers, saw people in wheelchairs, saw elderly, everyone comes out to the street. it is a really fun safe place to be when there aren't any carson it, we look forward to

love. mama mia made my day. looks great. thanks, anita. well, rowers from all over the world are in philadelphia this weekend for a popular race on the schuylkill river. among the competitors, a mother daughter team from philadelphia. health reporter stephanie stahl has more on this local teen that pushed through several setbacks. >> they're n'sync, not just with their strokes, and loving the schuylkill river. this mother and daughter team is committed to rowing even through pain and injuries. >> that's the thing about rowing. you're so concentrated on the beauty of it, and the water, and being out there, that if it hurts a little, you're not paying attention to that. >> sixty-nine year old mary jones, is convinced, she recovered ahead of schedule from shoulder replacement surgery of the because of rowing. >> i'm doing fabulous. the more you move, the better you heal. i think. >> and now mary and her 31 year old daughter, bailey, are training for the head of the schuylkill regatta, as they

celebrate a big anniversary, and their special bond. >> she is the bow and the bow is the boss. this is the 20th anniversary of our learning to row together. >> my mom, my first best friend, it is fun to be able to get out there with her. >> for bail think was big setback, a herniated disc, then back surgery, when she graduated high school. >> there is always a risk, when i first hurt it the doctors said if you sneeze you can herniate a disc. >> now combination rowing with yoga to keep her back strong, along with plenty of stretching. >> i felt like i was born on the water, just being around the water, so wonderful. >> sports psychology gist, bailey works with other athletes to help them deal with issues related to competing and being injured. >> being out here must be so -- >> it actually can be pretty therapeutic at times. >> really? >> really help with stress. >> 9,000 rowers from ten countries will be competing in the head of the schuylkill regatta. we have more information for you, cbsphilly.com.
