challenging record lows i'll tell you when cold air hits all right here on "eyewitness news" at 6:00. peculiarly. our trooper is battling it he is not out of the wood by any means but as i said yesterday, he is a very strong individual and he displayed a will yesterday that he wanted to live and get through this. >> still fighting parks state trooper shot in the line of duty remains in the hospital. tonight we are learning more about the shoot-out that left him wounded and bravery, he and fellow trooper displayed during the violence. good evening, i'm ukee washington. aim jessica dean. police say the alleged gunman daniel clary was also shot, the 22-year old was arraigned from his hospital bed, and faces multiple charges including criminal attempted murder and his bail was set at a million-dollar. joe holden has been covering this story from the beginning, and joining us live from the

state police barracks in bethlehem with very latest, joe. >> reporter: jessica and ukee good evening. in the word of the captain here in the bethlehem barracks corporal seth kelly's a fighter, i 13 year veteran of the force, grew up in wayne county. just about 40 miles from where i am standing. so what about this defendant, the suspect shoot inner all of this? well, we went searching for answers and our visit to his house, was not well received. daniel clary's family was belligerent. >> i asked you to leave, you are still here. get out. >> reporter: they told to us getaway from their home tucked away on the quiet would be street in the poconos. they had nothing to say about the attempted homicide charges clary has been hit with or allegations that he opened fire on two state troopers, gravely wounding corporal seth kelly. the shoot-out erupted at this spot on route 33 in northampton county, prosecutors say that clary shot the corporal at least two

times, trooper ryan seipole was not hit and both returned fire and wounded clary who then took off from the scene driving himself to the hospital. the detectives are now examining what went so wrong, at what had been a routine traffic stop and how was clary able to over power them. >> i don't know mr. clary but i do know he is 200-pound, 5- foot 10, a big guy, young, 22 years old and also, may or may not have been under the influence of some drug. >> reporter: toxicology screens are underway, police say clary has a retail theft on his rorrer. he remains in the hospital after being shot several times , investigators did not have his condition available. as for corporal kelly who remains in critical condition his road ahead is a long one. >> we have to remind ourselves that these individual put on uniform and get out to work that they are out there, guarding between us and these individual, who want to do harm. >> reporter: and right now the

suspect daniel clary's under guard at the hospital, by the pennsylvania state police, again, he is being held on a million-dollar cash bail, and his condition not known but he does have a scheduled preliminary hearing, where the prosecution will bring forward its evidence. remember, police say all of these events that transpired were captured on, dash cameras , in those cruisers, so , they tell us this is all memorialized on those dash cameras and that likely might be presented at the preliminary hearing. that is latest reporting live from outside bethlehem barracks tonight i'm joe holden for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". a west deptford police officer is off the job accused of tampering with evidence and filing false reports. police say 30 year-old officer thomas mcwayne was allegedly setting people up for drug possession, and then funneling them to a rehab program he had a financial stake in. he has been suspended without pay, investigation started when internal affairs stumbled

across body cam footage they say showed part of his alleged crime. >> he also went to training to be a counselor sort of to say for drug addiction and to help people, and that is what we thought he was doing. we thought he was out helping people. >> mcwayne has been with the west deptford police department since 2013. he was suspended on monday and scheduled to appear in court next month. the national transportation safety board is now investigating the plane crash that claimed the life of former phillies pitcher roy halladay. here's new video from tmz sports that shows halladay's plane moments before it plunge in the gulf of mexico. and, he owned icon life sport aircraft for less than a month , and its wreckage was pulled from the water yesterday. >> our mission to understand not just what happened, but, to make recommended change toss prevent these sort of accidents from ever happening again. >> airplane was equiped with two data recorders, which have

voters took a first step toward potential overhaul of the property tax system. now this could affect more than just homeowners. "eyewitness news" reporter henry rossoff joins us in center city to see who may see biggest impact, henry. >> reporter: ukee, that is right following yesterday election property owners could get a pretty big tax break but there is a catch, for everyone , other taxes like sales, income tax they could be going up. so we spoke with the financial accountant to help break it down as well as some city leaders. >> don't tax you, tax me tax the guy behind that tree. >> reporter: let's face it, nobody likes taxes. >> it does not help us, working people. >> reporter: perhaps not surprise ago this yesterday when voters statewide had a chance to approve lowering their property taxes, they dit pennsylvania legislature still need to work out the details but soon cities could allow home owners to avoid paying property tax necessary a homestead tax exemption. cities will presumably replace

the lower property tax west higher sales and income taxes. >> i have clients that come to me about the increase in real estate taxes. >> reporter: kevin chew with the philadelphia firm internal tax service and other tax experts say there are clear winners and losers here. homeowners fixed income seniors could save money where as schools which rely on property tax income and rent hers won't see a tax break at all come out behind. chew suggest some people may adjust how they live, work or even shop based on what cities decide. >> most people will drive to delaware to make purchase instead of the pennsylvania. >> people will work around it. >> that is right. >> reporter: we found out philadelphians specifically don't need to worry about a big tax change accord together city council's finances chair woman. so no property tax change and in that no sales or income tax changes. >> absolutely no change whatsoever related to this homestead exemption. >> reporter: in a municipal where changes around taxes

>> you cannot do other stuff your friends can do and stuff and you are different. >> reporter: elliott was diagnosed first, 10 years ago, a month later, henry. >> one of the war days of the life that we had as parents, you know, the dreams that you have for your children just go up in smoke and you're lost and we were struggling to cope >> reporter: joe and and paul johnson said children with due shayne slowly lose their lives but there was a ray of hope. >> the doctor called us and said i have the war possible news but i have the best news in the war possible case scenario, and that there is a drug trial. >> reporter: drug adlauren slows progression and it quickly gave johnson brothers more mobility. >> life changer, we were seeing a miracle in front of your eyes. >> reporter: after school they are in the backyard playing with connolly but their fun days are now in jeopardy, f.d.a. rejected approval of the drug that keeps them moving. if the appeal fails, the drug will no longer be available.

camden county veterans were recognized today in voorhees averages head of the veterans day, camden county freeholder board presented medals to 34 veterans, and some recipients became emotional receiving the honor. >> some veterans that may have not ever received recognition, this could be their first opportunity, to receive their recognition, and to be able to feel at appreciation, and,

thank you, for their service. and employee of the jefferson health/new jersey received a special recognition award on behalf of her son who was killed in afghanistan in 2010. first lieutenant salvatore the second is credited with saving 19 other soldiers lives. well, a chilling november night, is what better than a little sign of spring. >> we sent the mobile weather watch tore long wood guard tones day where flowers are flourishing, as they gear up for a big event, meteorologist chelsea ingram getting a sneak peak at the chrysanthemum festival and chelsea, the mums are always synonymous with this time of the year. >> yes, they really are. actually right now is the best time to come, check out the chrysanthemum festival because they are at their peak and behind me, this is the 1,000 bloom mum, all right. it is about 8 feet by 12 feet and yes, it is one plant, and

it has 1,443 blooms. it takes about 18 months to grow. so that means next year, already started, and it starts from one tiny little cutting, you guys. there is two varieties. is there yellow, white. obviously this year at long wood gardens is featuring yellow color and the 1,000 bloom form started in japan and long wood gardens sent their own gardeners to train with the masters in japan to practice the form and take a look over here, this is what it actually looks like on the inside. now this is a different type of mum, a spider mum but just to give you an idea what it looks like on the inside, i mean thinks absolutely incredible and this is just a testament. this is only one plant, okay. here's where it all starts down here and it is just stunning how this all, just comes into play, and spider

mums cannot get as big as the one over here the thousand bloom mums. this is as i told you 8 feet by 12 feet just to give you an idea. i'm 5-foot five. much taller then me. it is absolutely stunning and they are hoping to actually make the upcoming years even bigger. the only thing is they are just going to have to make sure that they can get to it fit through the door. that is the only limiting factor. so again chrysanthemum festival you can come check out through november 19th, highly recommend it, even for you kate, bring kid down. >> that is so a nation, chelsea, thanks very much. look at that plant. it is huge, dwarfing chelsea and see the blooms. thanks very much. what a great time at the chrysanthemum festival. long wood gardens always something amaze to go see there it doesn't matter what time on the year it is there, even in the winter you can go inside and check out some of that stuff even this week when it gets down right frigid here lets look at is what going on right now, clear skies, couple

of showers here, sprinkles moving through portions of west virginia into northern virginia, not much expected to reach our area though some cloud will come through overnight into tomorrow. it thinks front we have to watch. all of the arctic air, cold air is up in the polar regions up over canada once this front comes through it is like we are opening the door, flood gates to the cold canadian air which will be diving south war , starting at the end of the week and we could be challenging some record lows, so get the heavy winter coats ready, 47 degrees in philadelphia 43 allentown. thirty-seven in mount pocono. not balmy outside but pretty seasonal as far as novice concerned. you can see where cold is. it is chilly almost all the way down to the gulf coast, only 52 in birmingham. fifty-eight in atlanta first front brought a chill across the eastern half of the country but second front is stronger arctic boundary. bismarck at 23 degrees. here's the cold, pink you see there and thinks all spilling over south and east over next several days.

future feels like temperature tomorrow afternoon at this time, feeling like 50's, it will be in the 50's, not too bad when front comes through but take a look at friday, wake up friday morning 8:00 a.m. kid at the bus stop. feeling like 27 in the city. feel like six in mount pocono and doesn't get much better through day, 1:00 p.m. feels like 27. wind will be very strong as well through the day on friday and we are looking at the season's first freeze. freezing temperatures get close on friday but it is saturday morning that the real core of the cold spills. this is freezing line blue you see here down in the carolinas , for us here in philadelphia we will be in the 20's and you can see pink right around the teens in our northwestern suburbs all the way through poconos and into new england. first freeze is on its way, and as we head into saturday morning we may be challenging some record. our forecast high on friday, 41. record coldest high for that date was 39, saturday forecast ted high 43, record coldest high for that date is 37, our normal by the way, 58 and then

again by even of the week 41 degrees. we will feel more like december, 41 degrees is typical ovulate december. this is christmastime weather that we are feeling friday, saturday but these temperatures 41, only half of the story. fat being for in the wind. it will feel like 20's all day , little less wind saturday and next week we are back to normal with some rain to start next week but saturday morning , you step outside, it will feel like, middle of the winter. >> it may surprise people. >> yes, 20's. are you all right, man. >> i'm sitting this close and i want to make sure, 20's it will be all right, man. it happens all the time around here. it will be all right. >> layer up. >> yes. >> we are not equipped for that kind of weather at all. >> we are talking about action on the ice, and, look to rebound, and sixers are rebounding, scoring, winning, those stories next in sports.
