will break our spirit or diminish the faith of the american people. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. president trump is in beijing this morning, the most anticipated stop of his five-day tour in asia. mr. trump said that he doesn't blame china for what he calls one-sided and unfair trade relations, and the president wants china to increase the pressure on north korea to give up its nuclear weapons program. steven portnoy is in beijing and has the details. >> reporter: good evening, anne-marie frrks china where it's already thursday night. it was a successful and historic one frchl the u.s. side, secretary of state rex tillerson reports on agreement of trade to a point and also on north korea.

president trump and president trump xi talked. here he struck a rather different tone. >> i don't blame china. after all, who can blame a country for being able to take advantage of another country for the benefit of its citizens. i give china great credit. but in actuality i do blame past administrations for allowing this out-of-control trade deficit to take place and to grow. >> secretary of state rex tillerson later said what trump said with some tongue in cheek to it. he said the chinese understand they have more to do to open this market to u.s. made

2k3w50ds. on north korea we're told the two sides agree kim jong-un should not be allowed to have nuclear weapons. they're committed to u.n. security council resolutions that curb trade with the north but tillerson said those sanctions could take some time to work. from here president trump continues on to vietnam for an economic summit. earlier on he said he might meet with president vladimir putin. but tillerson said the meeting will only take place if the two have something in common that would take place. >> thank you. this morning republicans unveil their tax bill. there are expected to be some significant differences between the senate tax plan and the one proposed by house republicans. key issues. it would eliminate the deduction they can take for state and local and property tax. they retain the deduction only

for property taxes up to $10,000. and authorities in texas are reviewing video from inside the first baptist church the morning a gunman killed at least 26 people. vice president mike pence visited with families and attended a memorial service in suggester land springs last night. good morning. >> good morning. they're looking at how the suspect got his hands on weapons leading up to the attack despite several red flags. there was a memorial service heard last night in sutherland, texas, for those killed in the church shooting. mike pence showed up after wrapping up the day's events with a show of support from washington. >> we're with you. the american people are with

you. >> reporter: earlier in the day they talked about the shooter and the things leading up to stream despite several red flags. he was also convicted in a court-martial of two charnls ge assault. >> we will find out why this information was not properly reported in 2012. >> reporter: as more about the victims is being released we learn that among those kited eight children and teenagers. paul was among the first ems workers to respond. he said after seeing what was inside that church, it's clear the shooter was determined to inflict as much damage as possible. >> he went after everybody. everybody. whoever he missed was by accident. >> the attack was caught on videotape by the church which regularly recorded its sunday

service. authorities are now reviewing that footage. u.s. officials confirm the attacker's cell phone which they're still trying to access was an iphone. they have not yet asked apple for any help. anne-marie. >> hena doba here in new york. thank you so munch, hena. if you travel by air, you may find this next report a little troubling. it's a report on the failing of security. jeff pegues has that story. >> they found continued problems with procedures. they say possibly over 70% of the time explosives and weapons were able to get through check points. just two years ago testing found a 95% failure rate. house homeland security committee received a classified briefing on the report. here's what chairman michael

our top stories this morning. president trump met with chinese president zee sheng ping this morning in beijing. mr. trump urged china to increase pressure on north korea to give up its weapons program. and he also said he doesn't blame china for what he calls one-sided trade relations. he blames his predecessors. the department of homeland security found that possibly over 70% of the time during tests explosives and other weapons were able to get through tsa screeners. that's better than two years ago when the failure rate was 95%. there are new questions about the small plane pitcher
