preparing for the big chill. not a bad night at city hall, seasonal temperatures around the area but do not get too comfortable. good evening, everyone i'm ukee washington. i'm jessica dean. we are expecting near record lows in some places and people we talk to are bracing for bitter blast. >> if i wanting to outside, it will be layered, gloves, hats, >> i will bundle up more. i have some other jackets and stuff like that. >> i will be bundled up. i will stay in my house with my hot chocolate and hot chocolate and just watch some tv and movies. >> solid plan. >> we will check with meteorologist kate bilo on the cbs-3 sky deck, this looks like a taste of winter, kate. >> as you have been saying it will take some people by surprise. we have been saying it all week but when you step outside tomorrow and feel those wicked wind you will be like wow, this really does fell like middle of winter. it will feel like 20's all day tomorrow from start to finish and it hasn't been that cold

since last winter for us. it has been a while. we are not used to it. lets look at the front bringing these changes on storm scan 3a couple cloud, few sprinkles around the area right now but actual arctic cold front is back across the great lakes. not a whole lot happening right now, could be a stray shower here or there this evening and then tonight it is really early tomorrow morning we will feel winds pick up and temperatures begin to plumet. we're on borrowed time. if you have to head out it is seasonal for november evening, 55 in philadelphia, 45 degrees in reading and 41 in mount pocono. here it is, back to the west, 23 in northern michigan, 17 in minneapolis, 35 in chicago, and then that is ate heading our way, we will open up flood gates once the front passes through tonight. couple showers you can see on future weather here and there around possibly eight or 9:00, possibly around 11 on the air once again we will see showers on storm scan three that clears, tomorrow we will see sunshine in the morning but it is going to be bitterly cold

"eyewitness news" reporter anita oh joins us at the scene with what we know so far, anita. well, ukee we just spoke to homicide captain john ryan who says it is still very early in the investigation with more questions then answers. here at the scene you can see that the crime scene unit arrived not too long ago and

detectives are interviewing multiple people horren side the home at the time that gun went off. >> upset. that is crazy. >> reporter: philadelphia police are investigating the death of the two year-old boy shot in the head around 2:15 thursday afternoon. >> right now what we are seeing is consistent with an accident. >> reporter: investigators say it happened in the basement of in home in the 200 block of west godfrey avenue in olney but exactly how this shooting unfolded remains unclear. police say boy's father rushed him to einstein medical center where doctors pronounced the boy dead shortly thereafter. >> another tragic case and people in this city with unsecured firearms in their house, you never know hoist coming through or what child might be over or friend will have kid over and then you have tragedy. >> reporter: distraught relatives could be seen outside the home while at the hospital investigators block off the father's vehicle with police tape. authorities also transported a man and woman from the hospital to police headquarters. neighbors meantime say this is

a senseless tragedy. >> put them guns away. they need to take them guns and throw them away get writ of them. every week something going on, every week. >> reporter: sources say investigators have not yet recovered a weapon from the scene. stay up to date on the developing story on cbs philly .com for now we are live , i'm anita oh for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". authorities are searching for two suspects in the shooting death of a man this morning in west philadelphia police say 29 year-old terrell shields was killed as he got into a car in the 4500 block of marion avenue. dozens of shots were fired, terrell was shot multiple times. philadelphia police are looking for a suspect they say stole nearly a dozen lap tops from boys latin middle school in west philadelphia last month. officers say that this surveillance video shows a man pull up to the school, driving a silver or gray chevy i am pal a he unsuccessfully tries to enter the school through a side door and goes through

front door instead. he leaves with a briefcase full of what officers say are 11 lap tops and if you recognize this man please contact the police. multi million-dollar settlement has been reached in the lawsuit over death of the inmate at a local prison. joe holden spoke to the family of the woman who died in our sat center with what they had to say about the agreement, joe. >> reporter: in the word of the lawyer for family of jean ine wallace, guard at george c hill prison are responsible for horrific treatment of the mentally ill woman. she had been caught in the vicious cycle, paranoid, anxious, ill and lock for days on end in the hole. sues and wallace remembers her daughter during happier time. >> jeanine was very creative, very intelligent, beautiful. >> reporter: but this mother's focus will be on the events that unfolded in this jail cell may 26th, 2015. jeanine wallace of up are darby had been lock in solitary confinement for 52

days. she had been pick up for making terroristic threats and probation violation. it was a holiday weekend. her mental conditions, lawyers say was rapidly deteriorating. >> miss wallace had been locked in her cell for 85 straight hours at that point. >> reporter: lawsuit filed against community education centers a new jersey company that operated delaware county 's george c hill prison in 2015 shows jeanine got in the argument with a guard. >> she called out from her cell that she was going to choke herself and the guard told her to go ahead and choke herself. >> reporter: it shows she covered her cell windows. instead of checking on her the the guard who has been since fired, took a lunch break. jeanine wallace was later found by a supervisor she had hang herself. >> she was a different person, until mental illness. >> reporter: she was said to have a severe case of par any, investigation by prison contractor in the handling of her death was severely lacking including claims that statement had been destroyed. >> what happened to jeanine

should have been fully, completely investigated by the private contractor. >> reporter: now a family is pushing for reform even though it i is too late for them. >> nothing will bring back jeanine, obviously but we don't want another family to go through what we went through. >> reporter: i spoke with the new contractor for the george c hill prison, the ge o group, vice-president could not talk about the settlement but pointed out that they were not managing the facility in 2015. well, delaware county counsel said ge o is initiating revision toss policy for inmate confinement including medical assessment and intervention. these steps, lawyers say were brought about because of this lawsuit. in the sat center, live tonight joe holden for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> joe, thank you. pennsylvania state trooper shot in the traffic stop remains in critical but stable condition after a second surgery. daniel clary shot corporal set h kelly after fighting with

him and another trooper on the side of the northampton county highway on tuesday. clary who was also shot is facing multiple charges including criminal attempted murder. his bail has been set at one million-dollar. six inmates pleaded not guilty in connection with the fatal uprising at john t vaughn correctional center in smyrna, delaware back in february. all six have demanded a jury trial, five of the six are among the 16 inmates charged with first degree murder in the death of corrections officer stephen floyd. a new jersey woman is getting the final say, earlier this week ashley bennet ran for office for the first time and won. she was inspired to take action after an locally elected official made an offensive remark about the woman's march on social media. our cleve bryan has her story and how it is just part of the larger trend of winning are women seeking office. >> reporter: it was around this time last year following election of the president donald trump that three two-year old ashley bennet of egg harbor township started to

get fired up over politics. >> it makes you angry as a woman. >> reporter: that became a flame when she saw a powe of the republican atlantic county freeholder john carmen, asking participants in the women's march on washington will be home in time to cook dinner. >> my own elect official make a mockery of that on social media was just disheartening. >> reporter: bennet wrote, spoke out at a freeholder meeting and then went after the ultimate revenge she ran for his office and she won. >> if you feel like you are not being accurately represented, then you need to have a seat at the table. >> reporter: bennet's story is part of the wigger trend according to the center for american women in politics president trump's election created a surge in woman running for political office. record number of new jersey woman won nomination force state office, most trying to unseat incumbents a lot of people don't know where to start or get involved. >> reporter: amy swann chairs marie's women united, afforded 20 south jersey woman, of them

13 won. >> the climate that has been created over the last 12 months has forced us to take a step in front and be advocates for ourselves and things that we care about. >> reporter: experts say increase in women running for office this year is just a for shadow of things to come. next year many more states hold elections and programs that teach women how to run for office are packed. >> it was a movement. i'm just one small part of it. >> reporter: small part with big potential. cleve bryan, cbs-3 "eyewitness news". and this just into "eyewitness news" family of the roy halladay has announced funeral plans for former phillies pitcher. public service will take place next tuesday, november 14th, at spectrum field in clearwater, florida. halladay was killed tuesday when his sport plane crashed into the gulf of mexico near tampa. the ntsb continues the investigation. halladay family release aid statement that read in part while we mourn the loss of the core of our family, we choose to celebrate him, and remember the man that we knew

millions are living with the devastation of dementia

and this weekend is there a walk to end alzheimer's, today , to help raise awareness there was a special virtual tour to help people understand what dementia feels like. >> our stephanie stahl tried it out. >> it was so scary, you guys. you don't realize how dementia really impacts so much of the person's thinking and functioning, and is there a big range, of course between mildly affect to profoundly disable. my virtual tour today, was eye opening. >> wow. >> reporter: geared up to feel what it is like to have dementia with difficulties extortion goggles, headphones and oversized gloves. >> getting gloved up now. >> reporter: with me mickey wiseman whose husband has alzheimer's. we were momentarily walking in his shoes, gear, also includes prickly shoe inserts. >> it effects your sensory and challenge your physical skills >> reporter: we are led in the dark room and read a list of instructions. >> find a jacket, put it on and put it on. table for four, count out 17

cents in change. >> reporter: our cameras was not allowed inside the experience but it was confusing, and difficult. >> i'm a little lost here do you remember the instructions. >> no. >> reporter: it only last a couple minutes. >> wow. that was intense. >> reporter: goal of the virtual dementia tour at holy redeemer gives health caregivers and loved won a chance to experience what dementia feels like. >> i didn't understand. i could not believe that is what a patient would be going through. >> reporter: mickey's husband of 65 years has been who to alzheimer's for nine years now even unable to speak. >> it it is very difficult watching this slow decline. >> reporter: after going through the tour she thinks he must be frighten, alzheimer's effects the brain causing confusion, memory loss and eventually physical limitations. >> i think when you know what someone else is going through and take those steps and experience like we have with dementia tour today it makes you feel for them and understand everything that they are going through.

way. lets take a peak right now outside we will start off with a live look at our building here from our parkway central library camera shooting toward cbs broadcast center. we are in that building right now waving at you as we look at it from the outside, center city looking a-okay, in the too bad, just outside on the sky deck, wind have not pick up, temperatures still seasonal, cloud are in place but of course cloud keeping things milder, right now, then what we normally see at this time of the night. temperatures in the dropping that quickly now that the sun has set. storm scan three shows change maker. our arctic cold front right about here see rain, snow over great lakes, snow showers near toronto along that front and out ahead we are seeing cloud, spring also cross the area tonight. mostly dry maybe a few rain drops on the windshield out and about this evening, that is bit. you can see cold air and again , snow showers, cold comes in, and some lake effect snow over portions of michigan , and here it comes, first time we have talk much about lake effect snow and things like that.

winter's just around the corner and it will feel like it tomorrow and saturday. temperatures we are at 55 degrees in philadelphia 55 in wilmington. 55 degrees in dover. forty-one mount pocono. not too bad. here's core of the cold with single digits temperatures over central canada where this air mass is coming from. thinks our source, little piece of that break off and heading our way, cold air from the polls rotating to the northeast. tomorrow at 6:00 a.m. it feels like freezing 10, in mount pocono but winds start to pick up around seven or eight and that is when we will see future feels like temperatures drop in the 20's, 27 what it feels like at 8:00 a.m. standing outside waiting for the bus, it will be brutal. 4:00 p.m. feels like 20's every where except poconos where it feels like seven. as we head in the overnight hours there will be a time period where mount pocono it may feel close to zero in the city, feels like, saturday morning and saturday afternoon not quite as cold thanks to less wind but season's first

freeze is on the way. that is why it is in effect tomorrow night and saturday morning, you can see blue, and head down to the carolinas, that is near record cold, our forecast, 24 on saturday morning, the record is 21. so as we head through tonight not too bad to start but temperatures will drop once the skies clear and once wind picks up tomorrow morning, blustery and cold tomorrow, sunny, that will not help us much, 40 degrees, feeling like 20's at best, saturday veterans day less wind but still cold and then next week things go back to normal. little hint what lies ahead in the future but it is over quickly and get back to november weather. >> thanks, kate. >> don's up next with sports. >> busy day in sports. tim cashes in. super dario thrives. and, ezekiel gets tackled from the nfl, what the latest on news means for the bird. sports coming up

when you start a new job there is that probation period , company gets a few months to figure out if you can hack it. tim journigan, aced the test. eagles signed defensive tack toll a four year extension. deal is reportedly worth 48 million with 26 of it guarantied. through nine games he has 11 tackles and one and a half sacks but he has been a big force in the middle have that defensive line. back in april bird traded for journigan after the 24 year-old spent his first three seasons in baltimore. now journigan and eagles play cowboys in 10 days. ezekiel elliott will not be on the field for sunday night football, running back on, off again suspension is back on. he will miss the next six games for violating nfl policy stemming from a domestic abuse allegation, the nflpa has the right to appeal. sixers are in sacramento tonight looking for their sixth straight win, joel embiid is in the line up as

big cat caused quite a stir in one berks county town this beauty was spotted running around the streets of reading and animal rescue in berks county pick her up. residents initially called 911 to report a cheetah sighting but rescue says that the cat is likely a wild african cat, they are illegal to own in pennsylvania, without a permit the rescue says in one stepped forward to claim her she's at a different rescue that specializes for caring for big paths. >> she takes amazing photos. >> pretty, wow. >> thanks for watching "eyewitness news" at 6:00 we are back at our sister station on 10 and back here at 11:00. up next "cbs evening news" , from new york here's anthony mason. we will see you tonight.
