>> just seeing, you know, a little boy give us so much support and love, that's alsool. >> thank you, buddy! this is the "cbs evening news." >> mason: good evening. i'm anthony mason. new accusations of sexual misconduct are being leveled at powerful men seemingly every day. the latest could have national implications. in a story first reported by "the washington post" and confirmed by cbs news, four women accuse alabama republican roy moore of pursuing them when they were teens, and he was in his 30s. moore is running in a special election next month for the u.s. senate, where republicans hold a slim 52-48 majority. nancy cordes reports, members of moore's own party now want him out. >> he should step aside if the allegations are true. >> reporter: judgment came swiftly for candidate roy moore today as senate republicans universally condemned their

would-be colleague. >> the allegations, if true, to me, mean he needs to step aside. >> reporter: moore is a former chief justice of the alabama supreme court and a staunch investigating. >> but we're all created in the image of god. >> reporter: but four women told "the washington post" that moore pursued intimate relationships with them when they were teenagers. leigh corfman says she was 14 and moofers a 32-year-old assistant district attorney when he befriended her outside a custody hearing in 1979. she says he "asked her for her phone number" picked her up in his car and kissed her. on a second visit he took off her shirt and pants and removed his clothes. he touched her and guidelined her to touch him over his underwear. has suggested that muslims should not serve in congress, and that 9/11 may have been god's punishment. moore calls the new allegations "completely false," and has even begun fund-raising off the news, urging "god-fearing conservatives to fight back against the forces of evil by chipping in a donation." >> it's a devastating, nasty story. >> reporter: but even his fellow alabama republicans refused to stand by him, including luther strange, who lost to moore in september's primary, despite the backing of president trump. >> it's very, very disturbing, what i've read about it. >> reporter: it's too late for republicans to replace moore on the ballot, even if he does decide to drop out. and, anthony, if democrats were able to pick up a senate seat in that deep red state, it would leave republicans with just a two-seat majority here in the senate, making it even harder for them to pass priorities, like tax cuts. >> mason: nancy cordes at the

capitol, thanks. louis c.k. is known as a comedian with a conscience. his stand-up are you teens often point out male hypocrisy. now he is accused of sexual misconduct. jericka duncan is following this, and a warning: some of the accusations are graphic. >> reporter: "the new york times" spoke to five women who went on record with stories about louis c.k. that are anything but funny. after a comedy show in 2002, comedy duo dana min goodman and julia wolov tell "the new york times,," louis c.k. asked them if he could take out his penis" while the two were in his hotel room. they say they thought it was a joke and laughed it off, and then they say he really did it. in 2003, aby schachner says she invited louis c.k. to one of her comedy shows. during the phone conversation, she claims she could hear him masturbating as they spoke. rebecca corry says while taping a division pilot in 200fooirveg louis c.k. asked if he could

masturbate in front of her. she declined. the comedian, who has sold out madison square garden three times, has made women's rights part of his routine. >> how do women still go out with guys when you consider the fact that there is no greater threat to women than men! >> reporter: ashley cullens is a staff writer for the "hollywood reporter." >> louis c.k. thing we saw happening because there were hints. they canceled the premiere of his story before the story broke. >> reporter: a story written called "i love you daddy" about a father who tries to prevent his 17-year-old from having a relationship with a 68-year-old filmmaker was supposed to premiere in new york tonight. but a representative from the distributor of the film tells cbs news, in light of the allegations they canceled tonight's premiere and are continuing to review the situation. we reached out to louis c.k.'s publicist for comment and have not heard back. today, he canceled his appearance on "the late show

with stephen colbert." >> mason: actor kevin spacey is being cut out of a film that's already completed. spacey has been hit by a flood of accusation of sexual assault. ridley scott said spacyee's scene will be reshot with christopher plummer. the air force is moving quickly investigating mistakes that a gunman used to kill 26 people. the court-martialed airman's conviction was not entered into the database for background checks. michelle miller with more on the heroes who chased down the killer. >> reporter: new cell phone video shows a visibly shaken and barefoot stephen willeford talking to police just moments after shooting and chasing gunman devin kelley.

>> reporter: kelley was found dead in his car with several gunshot wounds, including one to his head that police say was self-inflicted. >> we hit about 95 going down 539 trying to catch this guy. >> reporter: it was filmed by johnnie langendorf, the man willeford flagged down to help drive after kelley. >> reporter: today, as investigators wrapped up forensic work at the site of the massacre, church officials said they're considering knocking down the bullet-ridden building and replacing it with a memorial garden. >> we put two patients in each ambulance. >> reporter: lavernia e.m.s. director paul brunner helped treat the wounded inside the church. based on what you saw, was there any indication the shooter gave anybody any mercy? >> no. his methodology was meticulous and calculated and total.

so, no, i don't believe he-- he didn't want anybody to-- to survive. >> reporter: investigators have returned the property to church leaders. they have made some repairs, erected this chainlinked fence and shrouded it in black until the congregation can decide on what to do with it. anthony, this sunday, services will be held just a block away at a nearby community center. glm michelle miller in sutherland springs, thank you, michelle. the north side of puerto rico, including the capital, san juan, was plunged back into darkness today when a major power line shut down. the setback comes as fema is offering to fly thousands of storm victims to the u.s. mainland. here's david begnaud. >> reporter: six weeks after hurricane maria hit, 2200 people are still living in shelters. >> it's very sad seeing the way i am so helpless. >> reporter: 74-year-old elise ortiz has been sleeping on a cot in a gymnasium for 41 days.

>> it's hard, but we make the best of it. everybody more or less they give-- everybody gives a hand, you know. >> reporter: the destruction is so vast, fema cannot find enough temporary housing or hotels on the island, so the only option is to organize an airlift and fly people to the mainland. >> we have never done an that before. >> reporter: mikey byrne is fema's top officer here. surprisingly, he said they aren't getting a lot of takers for the airlift. >> we're actually going out and doing, you know, interviews in the shelter, where people still are to see if they have an interest. and so far we're seeing a very low level of interest to take advantage of that program. >> well, i don't think they're really listening. >> reporter: but florida congressman darren soto says his office has been overwhelmed with calls for people looking for help. some 140,000 puerto ricans have already fled on their own to florida. >> obviously, there's an interest to not have a mass exodus from the island because the economy down there, and we're sensitive to that.

but these are american citizens. they should be able to travel freely. >> i want to be in puerto rico. i want to go to the states. >glenabonila was planning to sip for that airlift. the offer from fema is a roundtrip ticket to either florida or new york and a hostell stay of up to 45 days. now, fema will not pay for food or transportation once an evacuee gets to the hotel, and that is one reason a lot of them are reluctant to go. anthony. >> mason: david begnaud in san juan. the house committee investigating russian meds ling in the presidential election heard quite a story this week from president trump's former bodyguard. he seems to suggest russians may have tried to blackmail mr. trump. here's jeff pegues. >> moscow is going to get hotter. >> reporter: in 2013, president trump's miss universe pageant was in moscow.

mr. trump was there, too, along with his longtime body guard keith schiller. this week, schiller told members of the house intelligence committee that during that trip, an offer was made to send five women to mr. trump's hotel room at the ritz-carlton. according to a source, schiller told the committee, he didn't take the offer seriously, but he did later mention it to mr. trump. the intelligence committee is investigating allegations made in a 35-page dossier compiled last year by a former british spy. it made the unsubstantiated claim that the kremlin had compromising information on mr. trump that included salacious details about his 2013 trip to moscow. >> it is an age-old tactic. the russians have been using it for as long as they have been spies. >> reporter: eric o'neill is a former f.b.i. operative. >> i'm not surprised at all that the russians would have gone after someone like mr. trump at the time to gather that compromising information. he's a well-known figure, someone who is very engaged in

politics, and, also, someone who has many deals in russia. >> reporter: an attorney for schiller who worked at the white house until september had no comment. just recently, a lawyer for both the hillary clinton campaign and the democratic national committeey admitted to paying the research firm that compiled that dossier. anthony. >> mason: jeff pegues, thanks, jeff. in china, the president turned on the charm with president xi jinping. in the past, mr. trump has accused the the chinese of unfair trade practices. today was different as he seeks china's help in reining in north korea. >> reporter: it was a grand welcome to beijing for president trump. as he lavished praise on his host, chinese leader xi jinping. >> my feeling towards you is an incredibly warm. one. as we said, there is great chemistry. >> reporter: president xi was not as complimentary but did say the u.s. and china, the world's

two largest comerkz need not be rivals. right now, china sells the u.s. roughly $300 billion more in goods than the u.s. sells china. president trump blamed past american presidents for the deficit. >> but, but, i don't blame china. after all, who can blame a country for being able to take advantage of another country for the benefit of its citizens. i give china great credit. >> reporter: during the campaign, candidate trump struck a different tone. >> we can't continue to allow china to rape our country-- and that's what they're doing. >> reporter: the two leaders did not iron out differences on what mr. trump called unfair trade practices. but did oversee the signing of $200 billion in potential business deals. >> you're going to help us a lot with the menace of north korea. >> reporter: on north korea, the president prodded xi to act faster and to cut off any financial aid to pyongyang. >> and i am calling on china and

today, pleading not guilty to a misdemeanor that could land him in jail fair year. he said only two words: >> yes, sir. >> reporter: 59-year-old rene boucher lived next door to paul for 17 years, but the two hadn't spoken to each other for a long time until last friday, that is, when a curious incident took place near this strand of tweeze between their homes. paul's office said he was blindsided while mowing his lawn in a violent attack by a disturbed person, a reference to boucher, whose attorney is matt baker. >> i think "blindsided" is a very unfair characterization. >> reporter: does your client acknowledge touching the senator? yes. >> reporter: in a violent fashion? >> i'm not going to go that far. >> reporter: initially, the police said paul had minor injuries, but now, almost a week later, he says he has six broken ribs. neighbor alicia stivers saw him right after whatever it was that happened.

>> reporter: neighbor jim skaggs related what he'd heard. >> he just ran and hit paul from the rear, and then i don't know whether he pounded him or what he did. i think he just broke. >> reporter: while paul is very conservative and boucher is very liberal, their friends say politics was not the cause. it was trivial, they say. it was about lawn maintenance, a hum-drum dispute that's lasted years. >> it's just beyond comprehension that two very smart people could let a little blaifd grass or a twig-- or even politics-- cause a harmful, bodily injury like this. >> reporter: it's so beyond comprehension, that almost nobody in town believes it. for now, though, we're told the senator has retained a personal injury lawyer while dr. boucher is due back here in court for a
