>> breaking news this morning on cbs-3 a massive multi alarm blaze rips through chester county senior living complex, destroying buildings and sending dozens every frail, elderly residents out into the cold. today is friday, november 17th , good morning, i'm jim donovan. >> i'm rahel solomon, we'll check on weather and traffic in a moment. first the latest on the breaking news, flames engulf a senior living center. live, where a news conference wrapped up short time ago, trang, good morning. >> reporter: well, good morning, rahel, jim, yes, we learned the fire is now under control. what we know is that paramedics transported at least 20 people to area hospitals, with non-life threatening injuries. now, take a look at the scene

here, we are being kept quite aways from the community which is about a half mile away for good reasoning, the massive flames coming, this fire started before 11:00 p.m., franklin street, west chester, fire rose from two to five alarms in a couple of hours, told at least 125 people were saved from the fire. and dozens of concerned family members rushed here to the scene, comforting their relatives, wrapped up in blanket, in buses transported resident out of the cold to different locations in west chester, some taking shelter at henderson high school. authorities are urging anyone with a family member at barclay friends to go to the good will fire station at 552 east union street or to call 61075758623. we did speak to one woman whose mother lives in the community as well as the mayor of west chester. take a listen.

>> people were making calls, sending emails, seeing what they could do to help, a lot of local supporters helped out >> it seemed the staff was doing a great job. they got everything out as best they could. and it seemed like they were being taken care of and moved to a safe and warm facility. so we're very grateful seeing so many people were taken care of and we were happy to find our mom. >> now we do want to show you this aerial map to get a sense whatever fire fight remembers dealing, with very big complex , almost in the shape after snowflake, seeing branches leading to different wings. a lot for firefighters contends with this morning. officials did tell just that 4:30 briefing they do intend to give us another update at 6:00 a.m. out here half mile from the scene, very smokey, you can see the area, smell it, all over. but for now, live in west chester, trang do, cbs-3, " eyewitness news," jim, rahel, back to you. >> thank you, trang.

>> now a check on the forecast with katie. you can see, in trang's shot there just how colds it was for those folks that live in the community also the report he is and the firefighters out there. >> absolutely, cold never makes it an easy fire fight certainly. the winds has been whipping, too, it will be here that things are getting under control in the regard. what we do have going on out there, yes, pretty decent winds flow out of the northwest making it feel extra chilly when you walk out the door. the good news, however, is that today will feature nothing but sunshine and clear skies. and even though it is still pretty brisk throughout the day at least with time that winds should ease up little bit. storm scan is pretty quiet. see the speckles, don't worry about those, nothing report weather wise, here is a look at the current winds flow, you know, not really harsh wind, but enough that you absolutely notice it, when you have got a cold day like we do today, here is what it feels like, not too much harsh at philadelphia international airport. but it feel more like the 30's and the teens where as your technically still in the 40's across most of the areas, so

again, chill in the air for sure. but expect to need the sunglasses today as it continues to clear out nicely, the sun will shine all day long, and we hit about 50 degrees, so still cheyenne seasonable today, meisha, but thankfully give the breeze, so it will be weakening with time >> all right, katie, thank you so much. kind of what we've been talking about, senior living complex that's with with fire this morning, i just want to bring to your attention how it will affect your commute around the area in west chester, north franklin street closed because of the fire between goshen road and ash bridge street, use an alternate around this, pottstown pike and high street is your best bet. trang will have more on. that will plus we do have an accident here 95 south at allegheny avenue closed vehicle struck by box truck, one has been transported to the hospital in this area and you will be forced off allegheny, and then you can re-enter right afterward. that is not it. we also have an accident investigation underway right now, it happened in pennsauken

ethics committee review. president trump also tweeted: the al frankenstein picture is really bad, speaks a thousand words. where do his hands go in pictures two, three, four, five and six while she sleeps? and to think that just last week he was lecturing anyone who would listen about sexual harrassment and respect for women. lesley stahl tape? >> philadelphia school system is once again taking matters into its own hands. last night school reform commission vote today disbands with majority vote of three. it returns the school district to local control for the first time since 2001, took control to get the district finances and other assets under control officials say the district is no longer distressed. lived and fight for this for quite a long time, 16 years of this rain of terror, what i call it. >> i think we're a year away from being ready to do that. i want the city to put up the

resources they say they'll put up. >> new school board will take over july 1st with mayor kenney appointing nine members >> the manhunt is over, teen murder suspect who escaped from juvenile detention facility in south jersey now in custody. this video from the press of atlantic city shows arresting 18 year old michael huggins in atlantic city. he and three other teens why from the harbor field youth detention center, the three other were found on the same day they escaped. philadelphia police investigating stabbing death of port richmond man. the victim was found wednesday night in the 2500 block of east lehigh avenue. officers say the man lived in the home with his family. neighbors say he was a beloved member of their community. at this point, police have made no arrests. >> the senate ethics committee resuming its investigation into senator bob menendez after federal corruption case ends in a mistrial. >> and i love you so much. i can't -- i can't -- >> the new jersey democrat broke down while talking about

his children after the jury said it could not make a unanimous decision. menendez accused of excepting gifts from wealthy friends in exchange for political favors. both men deny the allegations. not clear if federal prosecutors will retry the case. >> and i've made my share of mistakes, but my mistakes were never a crime. to those who were digging my political grave so that they could jump into my seat, i know who you are, and i won't forget you. >> menendez is up for re-election next year. govenor-elect phil murphy and president steve sweeney say they'll back him if he runs for another six year term. >> former pennsylvania governor tom ridge is hospitalized in critical condition after undergoing an emergency heart procedure. the 72 year old became ill at the republican governor association conference in austin. ridge served as pennsylvania governor nor from 1995 to 2001 , the first homeland secretary serving under george w. bush until 2005.

>> massive fire in west chester, flames engulfed the barclay community certain. we've just confirmed no life threatening injuries. the call came in around 10:45 p.m. last night. it rose to five alarms by the time flames were under control , about two and a half hours later, dozens of residents were evacuated into the cold and then placed on busses to shelters. our trang do back at the top of the hour with the breaking news. >> another finds this one at old barn on the campus of delaware state university. firefighters called to the scene around 7:30 p.m. last night. it does not appear that anything was being stored in the barn. and there were no injuries. the cause of that blaze is under investigation. >> philadelphia police asking for the public's help to find hit-and-run driver caught on camera pushing his car away from the scene. >> so, surveillance video shows driver smashing into parked carson 19th and tasker steets in point breeze. it happened overnight last saturday. when the driver got out to assess the damage, his car it

started rolling backward, then he tried to drive away, but the car wouldn't budget. so he decided to start pushing >> could you see him pushing the car away, or attempting to push the car away, he never puts it in park, the car almost hits him. it is just a very, very strange -- you just basically see him slam into my friend's car, and my car simultaneously >> three cars were damaged in this crash. one of the drivers side mirrors broke out off, and later found at the scene. >> south jersey woman expected to be okay after falling into an old septic tank. this happened yesterday afternoon in mullica township. the 57 year old victim fell about 10 feet down through the cover of the bay ban donned tank. ted 30 minute before her son heard her and another two hours to rescue her. >> fortunately he heard her,, especially depending what time of day that is. the time is 4:43,. >> katie, unfortunately, because of the news out of

west chester, it is a very cold morning. >> still chilly, breezy, i wouldn't say this is damaging winds but winds is never helpful in a fire fight for sure. meanwhile, the way things looking better, but take a look at storm scan, all calm, all clear, all very quiet. few speckles show up here on the radar. you don't have to worry about. that will we do have cloud cover starting to thin out with the passing hour, left with brought sunny day but brisk sunny day. now the next storm system really starting to show some expands here. this is what's going to be crossing through our area. starting tomorrow, and lingering through the second half of the weekends. the main gist with this is that you'll see some rain saturday afternoon, at the earliest, lingering into night fall. then left over showers early sunday morning as the colds front sweeps through with the storm system and really just skirt out to sea and we're left with windy conditions, and much colder air. now, the rest of today, it is still relatively breezy. so again, brisk day coming up. these are future wind gusts, not sustained winds

necessarily, but notice that, overnight, calming down, in a big way, but then comes this front. look at this. this has come saturday night, as the front itself is starting to cross through, these wind gusts could really be cranking out there. this would be a damaging winds , for sure, sending any small, you know, things you might have from halloween on your porch, those could go flying, i lost pumpkins that way. keep that in mind. maybe not the real ones, talking about the fake hollow ones, yes, but regardless, anything somewhat light that could be sitting on your porch or your deck, you may want to think about the securing that kind of stuff. into sunday morning that wind will actually continue to whip and really right through the day. now precipitation wise, rain, saturday afternoon at the earliest, lingering to night fall and lasting even as late as sunday morning, then it start to clear out, some spots , meisha, going to get cold enough to see few snowflakes sunday. >> thank you. very good morning to all of you, so we've been talking about the senior living fire in west chester, i did want to

pull your attention, it will affect your travel in the area north franklin street closed between goshen road and ash bridge street, you will have to use an alternate: pottstown pike and high street is your best bet. also an accident 95 south at allegheny avenue. it was closed, that might be re-opening now, this is where a vehicle was struck, by a box truck, and one was transported to the hospital. you're forced off allegheny, you could re-enter shortly. hopefully that's clearing out of the way. accident investigation, from an accident that happened in pennsauken township around 1:00 a.m. route 130 at route 38 and route 70. this was involving injuries. all lanes closed. this one also have to use an alternate. cuthbert boulevard will be your best bet. then construction crews of course, they're out there, as well, schuylkill westbound between vine and south street. one lane is blocked. and it was each direction, eastbound and westbound, the eastbound side has cleared, now just left with the westbound side. weigh will be talking more about construction coming up in a little bit. >> this afternoon officials

>> ♪ >> ♪ >> quite the tranquil looking view, isn't it? welcome back everyone. we overlook center city philadelphia from our very own station headquarters here in spring garden section of the city. all is calm looking, anyway. and very quiet. the clouds are trying to break we do still have a breeze that's noticable with time. that will start to ease up. got to give it some time, how much, so still notice that traveling today or waiting on the chilly train platforms or on the bus stop. storm scan at least quiet. that's going stay that way. you can also expect breitbart sunshine, i highly suggest having the advisors ready or your sunglasses, because specially traveling eastbound that sun glare will get you today. it is breezy, though, with gust still kicking into the 20 's, even that high of 50 degrees, it will be making it feel little chillier any time the wind blows. now, it is very, very calm tonight. few clouds, calm and chilly, down to 38 degrees. and as we look forward, women, things do go downhill. the weekend does look messy.

with rain, specifically moving in to the pm hours of tomorrow specially then sunday the winds really kicks up. and we thankfully clear out again by monday shall meisha. >> all right, katie, thank you so much. looking outside right now, really the morning commute actually has been pretty good. we've seen some accidents even already. nice dry roadways to contends with, but still construction crews still out here on the schulkhill westbound between vine and south street, one lane blocked in each direction see the cones still in the roadway there. plus, an accident in pennsauken township, that actually happened around 1:00 a.m. this is in the investigation stages. so, 130 northbound route 38 and route 70, this one was involving injuries. all lanes are closed right now , so you will have to use an alternate. cut beer boulevard is your best bet around there. forty-two freeway northbound creek road, approaching 295 what we are working with there , see how many vehicles are already out there. not even in the 5:00 hour. just about already getting busy on 42, then of course we are talking more about this, in your community fire in west chester, and how it is
