filtered sunshine we start out your day today. but that will come to an end, as we head into the afternoon, let me take to you some of the numbers, and also a live look right now, you can see the dry conditions, and the numbers best in the 20's, 30's, as we start out your saturday. right now, it is 34 degrees in philadelphia. upper 20's in allentown, 28 degrees in trenton, down the shore, we're at 28 degrees , as well, and delaware we are checking in in the 30's, 32 degrees in wilmington and 34 degrees in dover. storm scan3, shows, that cloud deck is on the increase, as we head into the morning hours today. then, i zoom out west, you can see the leading edge of rain, but getting beginning to make it way into portions of western pa. that's going to be impacting us as we head into the latter part of the day today. tonight, and then the winds really kicks up as we head into tomorrow morning. so rain moving in this afternoon. the heaviest if you will and steadiest rain, that's going to happen overnight, then by tomorrow morning, we could be talking about winds, gusting to 45 miles per hour in some

locations. so, throughout the day today, we rise into the 50's. by noontime, 50 degrees, shower possible, better chance later on this afternoon, to see some of the rain. and then the steadier rain moves in overnight, i'll time it all out for you coming up in your full forecast. for now sending it back to you >> chelsey, thank you. time is 6:03 now. and time to check the roads. let's go over to amanda mueller in the cbs-3 traffic center. good morning. >> good morning, of course the big event everyone is talking about this morning is the philadelphia marathon. as you can imagine, we've got plenty of road closures in the city this morning. starting with the off ramp from the vine to 22nd and 23rd n franklin parkway, between 20th l k drive, other roads in that area, expect those to be closed until at least 3:00 this afternoon. and switching now to a live look at spring garden and the ben franklin parkway, police already have this roadblock off here. but of course, even if you're opting for public transportation this morning, you will still be facing plenty of detours. most notably detours for trucks and trolley routes through the art museum

including 715, 32, 38, 43, 48, those closed at 2:00 this morning, new wave of closures just began few minutes ago. for complete list check septa 's website before heading out this morning. of course for more details on road closure today's race visit our website at sea cbsphilly.com. >> thank you, investigators returning to what's left of barclay friends senior living community. they're looking for clues that will help them find out what started thursday night fire that injured 27 people. and, they're till in the process of accounting for everyone who was inside. "eyewitness news" reporter alexandria hoff pecks up the story. >> it was like pandemonium, but it wasn't panic. they were all, you know, everybody was running around trying to help where ever they could. >> reporter: after very long day, 88 year old betty smith now rests easy, beneath the blank net her daughter's warm west chester home. she was woken up just before 11:00 p.m. thursday to

announcement that the barclay friends assisted living center where she resided was on fire. >> next thing you know, burst through the door, couple every guys, blackjack it, and stuff, on the back, and they said you got to get out. you got to get out. >> she and other struggled downstairs to make it out, first responders now being called heroes, were going in. >> i turned around and looked. and i saw all of the flames. >> one of the firefighters went as far as he could, and until he started feeling his helmet actually start to melt. >> the 160 resident and staff members inside of the facility were carefully evacuated from the five alarm inferno, and into the 40 degrees night. >> saw a lot of blankets, like kids blankets, came off the beds, and fancy ones, and stuff like that. >> twenty-seven people were ushered to area hospitals, as frantic family members began showing up to the scene. >> so we new she was safe, just didn't know where she was >> betty's daughter tracey soon found out her mother had been transport the dollars to the colds at shelter zest up

at west chester university. >> girls came, said we're taking you home, and did. so it was very nice. not nice, but it worked out very well. >> as is routine, and in large scale situation like there is the atf will be assisting in this investigation. they say they'll be coming out here, and as soon as that build something safe enough for them to go inside, they're going to begin to try to determine what caused this fire. reporting in west chester, alexandria hoff, cbs-3, " eyewitness news." now, the pennsylvania department of health and department of human services regulates this senior living facility. "eyewitness news" checked the most recent reports from both departments in october and early november. they show the building in compliance with code despite four minor infractions. now over the past 11 years, the facility has been inspected 39 times. there have been 14 inspections with safety violations, all of the issues, how much, were fixed, and as of thursday

night, state officials say the building was up to code. new this morning: row home fire in philadelphia's hunting park neighborhood has sent one person to the hospital. firefighters returned to this burning house, near ninth street, and west erie avenue, the injured person went to temple university hospital. there is no word on how serious that person's injuries are this morning. the cause of the fire is under investigation. >> investigators in western pennsylvania continue their manhunt today for the person who killed a police officer. investigators say new kensington police officer, brian shaw, was making a traffic stop last night, a foot pursuit then ended in gunfire. officer shaw died a short time later. new kensington police chief is now making a urgent plea for tips to help officer shaw's killer. i'm asking anybody, anybody, with any information, who they think it might be, please, please give us a call.

we need to find the person that did this. >> now, police found a jeep cherokee wanted in connection with that shooting. officer shaw had been on new kensington's police force, for less than a year. philadelphia police are investigating three attempted lurings of young boys. detective believe suspect is driving this car, take a look, it was captured on surveillance video. the first incident happened on may 9th when police say a man lured two brothers into his car, as they were trying to earn money pumping gas on the 3300 block every ridge avenue. the latest incident happened near stenton and haines on tuesday, and again on thursday >> the 14 year old complaint and the was awaiting, approached by an offender, approached by a grape or silver vehicle. he then asked if he wanted to earn some money by performing a sex act. >> the victims range from 11 to 14 years old. if you have any information, give philadelphia police a

call. excuse me. gloucester county authorities are a suspect in a murder after house sitter. investigators say physical evidence has linked 19 year old brandon wilson to the killing of sean evening carter officer found the young mother's body in a house on hopkins street, in woodbury back in september, wilson is in the cape may county jail on un unrelated case. and a series every random attacks near the temple university campus is now under investigation. the most recent was thursday night, at 16th and oxford. a group of teens attacked a student, knocked him to the grounds there. he's still in the hospital. the other two attacks also on oxford street, happened on november 7th, and 14th, police think the same teens are responsible for all three attacks, and in each case the teens did not feel a thing. well helping a local food bank at one of the most important times of the year. we have a live report on a special event happening today. >> also ahead, the holiday season is nearly here, and

tell us all about it, hi, anita. hi, there, jan. good morning, well, there is a very specific way to help today. you can see behind me, they've collected some of those turkeys, but they're still looking for more, also canned goods, so joining me now john and tasha has lands from the pantry and paris live international. thanks so much for joining us this morning, you guys, even need first-hand in camden, what are you guys looking for today? >> well, basically, and eat, a we are looking for turkey distributions and also we're looking for people to come in and volunteer, as well. and camden, new jersey, weaver a need for about 150 turkeys. so we're looking for people to come on down, donate those turkeys, so that we can create good memories for for example in need for this thanksgiving holiday. >> and you guys have been doing this for quite a few years, but it is also

considered a food dessert. so what's your mission there? why are you so passionate about it. >> we're passionate about it because really the base of positive early has changed. today we know individuals had six figure incomes last year, and this year they don't have any food to put on their table so we want to make sure that we're therefore folks to see if we can help them kind after bridge as they are going through what they're going through to get them to the next level. everybody needs a helping hands. so we try to give a hands up to everybody. >> and how many people do you help? how many households, how many individuals, and also, what is the message that you hear from them, once you donate? >> well, since 2,009, we have registered over 4,000 households, and eat, a and that represents roughly conservatively, i should say, 12,000 individuals that have been benefit from the our services. and when at the get the food items, they show nothing but gratitude. the letters that we get, the emails, the text messages, the hugs, the hands shakes really

checking in in the 20's, 30's, you can see, some of those numbers. we have eileen in gilbertsville, right around 24 . and in her backyard. now we take you to live look at the neighborhood network, see the dry conditions, from across the river there. we've got dry start to the day but yes, indeed, that's going to come to an end as well. 34 degrees right now in philadelphia. 32 degrees in wilmington. we're in the upper 20's, down the shore, in atlantic city, 28 degrees there. we're in the 30's in delaware, 32 in wilmington, 34 in dover. we have 30 in reading. right around 33 degrees, poconos, in the upper 20's, places like allentown, winds right now, light, variable, in some locations, also calm in others. that is definitely going to be changing. things will be turning gusty today, and extremely windy, as we head into the overnight hours tonight and also into tomorrow. so, weather planner bee noontime up to 50 degrees, we head into the 3:00 hour, high temperatures mid 50's, it

will be breezy and a damp afternoon out there. storm scan3, shows that we have the cloud deck beginning to make the increase across the region, today, i zoom out, then see the leading edge of rain located out to the west, moving into portions every western pa, that's going to be arriving in our neighborhood later on this afternoon. notice, future weather, keeping us dry, through the 12:00 hour, at least right here in philadelphia. we will start to see some of the rain moving into allentown , reading, lancaster. as we move forward in time, we will have the risk for shower, as we head into the afternoon. but the bumm being of the rain , the steadiest rain, if you will, associated with cold front frontal passage, arrives during the overnight hours tonight. and during the we hours of tomorrow morning. now, it is possible, that some of that rain could actually help to pull down some of the stronger winds, in the upper levels of the as moss fear, might even be talking about a wind advisory going into effect, as we head into your sunday. let me show you what i am talking about here in the future winds gust. we will be gusting early this afternoon, easily gust mile

as "eyewitness news" reporter alicia tells us, authorities are still trying to determine if everyone got out alive. >> terror at nursing home in west chester asthmas i have fire ripped through it, flames 50 feet high, with well over 100 people inside. some, elderly, and disable. >> seeing how disoriented they were. and it was just frightening. >> as roughly 400 emergency responders race to the scene, those who were already near, residents close to the barclay friends nursing home, sprung intoing. >> i asked if i could help. it was just so much going on on that instead of waiting i just went in. >> some ran into the burning buildings to help those helpless inside. >> we wrapped this gentleman in a blanket, made a stretcher out of it, and actually carried him away from the fire as far as it could. >> other ran from their homes with blankets to comfort and keep warm. the elderly and disable, that were now out in the cold. >> everybody reacted so quickly. >> i was actually extremely

proud of my neighborhood. >> but the fear now, all of this effort may not have been enough. authorities are still trying to figure out if everyone made it out. >> that is the number one priority, making sure we can account for everybody, the scene, how it happened, we will follow on. police alicia , cbs-3 "eyewitness news ". >> meantime, many who were evacuated from the senior living center are now depending on the kindness of family and friends, coverage continues with "eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan with more from those seeking shelter after the fire. it is a quilt of some sort >> peggy con away holds this blanket dear, remind i of the unbelievable effort she says people made to help displaced resident of the barclay friends nursing home like her mother. >> they had whole bunch of blankets on, then neighbor, of ly, neighbor came and put this comforter over her. >> conway says for people with loved ones at barclay friends, news of the fire sent them scrambling. >> what was it like whether

you got there? >> chaos, literal chaos, huge flames, lots of smoke her her mother, one week away from her 101st birthday, and suffers from altzheimer's. >> took little while to find her. so i was panicked. she was scared. >> so many elderly residents, residents suffering from serious medical conditions, the red cross is getting evacuees, a lot of teamwork. >> we had hundreds of personnel on the scene between community partners, red cross and the folks from the university. >> west chester university provided shuttles and converted the gym into shelter for more than 40 evacueesing. >> university is a resource for the community, and what better place for people to be than in a gym, when something like this happens. >> everyone was bending over backward to help. >> conway says from the barclay staff to emergency responds tears neighbors that help hand out blanket, push wheelchair, true community effort to help the elderly resident of bark play friends. >> what would you say. >> thank you.

here behind me. but they're still looking for about 5,000 more. and joining me now, key development officer tom, thank you so much for being with us this morning, what's the need here, and what are you guys looking for? >> we're looking for turkeys, that's the name of the game today. turkey drop going on in the food bank and other site around the area, and the idea to get as many turkeys as we possibly can in one day to just in time for the holiday. so, that's where we're trying to accomplish here. >> and you guys are also looking for cans goods, as well. >> cans goods, non-perishables, things, the trimmings so to speak, yes, definately get those all pulled together as well. >> you guys serve the south jersey community here, but also another -- there are also other people you said who you're trying to serve. can you talk more about that? >> absolutely. there has been so much natural disaster going on, seen in the news, and you sort of intend to think about, stop thinking about it, as time goes on, but we now actually get people

coming up from puerto rico, florida, houston, and they're here, and they're coming from devastating situation. and they're coming here to even more need. and more food and security, because they're coming to families that can't necessarily take on more members of the household. they're already filled up to the brim. so, it is an opportunity for us to serve even more, get those, you know, vamp he is to get even more food to these families, make sure they can accommodate and help. >> right. what are the difficulties that you see first-hand for some of these families, what would thanks giving be like for them >> thanksgiving without a turkey or the trimmings, we don't know what the meal would look like without it. so, we definitely have to keep f this going, what we don't have in turkeys we have in chickens , we have to make sure that there is something that the centerpiece, because family is a time for everybody to get together. it is a time for everybody to feel like they're part of a of they belong somewhere and food helps. >> absolutely. that's great message. of course it is tradition, thank you, so much, team tonight. again you can help, they're looking for about 5,000 turkeys, and they'll be here
