ran front page endorsements yesterday of moore's opponent democrat doug jones. they said, quote, courting and preying on young women and girls. moore is accused of making unwanted sexual advances to women, many of whom were in their teens while moore was in his 30s. tina johnson said she had a run-in with moore in the '90s when she was in the office. >> i got up to leave and he grabbed me from behind by the buttocks. >> you've seen people across the board, ted cruz, mike lee withdraw their support, say he should step aside. i still hope he will do that and to the right thing. >> reporter: moore maintains his innocence. outside a church yesterday, moore still has support. >> it's amazing. we're living in the community.

we don't hear none of it. >> reporter: the special election takes place december 12th. >> president trump remains concerned. the president himself has yet to publicliwy weigh in on the race >> thank you so much, hena. this morning a manhattan hunte is under way for the deadly shooting of a police officer. 25-year-old prien shaw was a member of the new kensington police. shaw was shot in the chest while chasing the suspect identified by the police. shaw was shot friday evening. police say holt ran after a traffic stop and shots followed. it's unclear what caused officer martinez's injuries. his partner is in serious condition. the so-called big band

region where officers patrol is pretty difficult to cross illegally because of the terrain. president trump tweeted last night, we will seek out and bring justice to those responsible. we will and must build the wall. cbs news has confirmed special counsel robert mueller has asked the department of justice to turn over documents related to the firing of former fbi director james comey. mueller also baker/hamiltons documents concerned jeff sessions recusing himself from the russian investigation. and now to the republican effort to overhaul the tax code. budget director mick mulvaney said it would be okay to take out the mandate. the president had called on lawmakers to make that part of the tax package, but it has become a major sticking point. >> what we're interested in is the best tax bill that can pass.

our top story this morning, cult leader charles manson died last night following nearly half a century behind bars. he was 83 years old. manson convinced his flowers known as the manson family to brutally kill sharon tate and six others back in 1969. and an blame newspaper chain is calling on them to recall moore's candidacy. and aides to moore say they're not voting for him because of their discomfort over the sexual misconduct allegations.

schoolchildren are getting lessons in patience and perseverance. >> reporter: by daylight these children are practicing english at this school in san juan. but no matter what the language, the struggles are easy to see. meals come in red-to-eat packages or from the one gas stove, but at least this school is open. about 400 of the island's 1,100 schools are closed including juan hernandez's school. they've been cleaning. >> we're waiting. >> reporter: the contractor who was hired to check if the schools are safe was fired so the national guard is taking over. at another school deborah has a list of hazards. >> there's a leak.

>> reporter: but six weeks after the storm many of her students have left the island. >> we lost 25 students. some of them moved to the states. others at private schools. >> reporter: education secretary said maria devastated a school system already in trouble but she refuses to send kids back to unsafe schools. >> some communities are willing to open their schools even though they have conditions that would not meet a minimum standard in the states. >> it does not meet your bar. >> no. i think some of the conditions are unacceptable. >> for her and a lot of parents, they've been without power for nearly three week bus they're still open. 63 students have gone to florida and enrolled there and across the island, about 6,400 students have left and are now attending schools on the mainland. david begnaud, cbs news, puerto
