the big red dog, live look we are hours from now, the america's oldest thanksgiving parade is underway, we are live with the final preparations. philadelphia thanksgiving tradition is, taking your turkies to cacia's bakery, i can smell it right here, people are lining up, to drop off your bird. we are live with why so many people do this, year after year. >> there is a chill in the air for thanksgiving so bundle up if you are heading to the outdoor festivities. today is thursday, november 23rd, happy thanksgiving i'm gentlemen hold men for jim donovan. i'm rahel solomon. meisha's a off enjoying her holiday with her family but katie's here with her forecast >> happy thanksgiving. >> a pretty nice day. >> it is definitely a chill in the air all day, particularly now since the sun has yet to come up, and and chilly day, and we have seen it before and you will need your heavier winter coat on a day like this

aim with great company in addition to the clifford big red dog but dozen workers here overnight working to get this parade up and going. just recently some volunteers started to show up to handle and help these worker here all night. you can see clifford is stealing the show but there are, several other balloons behind him, a penguin, very fittingly out in this very frigid weather but lets take a look at this map heading down here later today. it starts at 20th and jfk and parade will travel east on jfk to 16th street where it will turn left on the parkway and of course continue up the parkway and eventually ending in front of the iconic art museum. now lets look at video from last years festivity. this years parade will feature around 140 musical acts, dance troops, marching bands and choirs, you name it, many local but quite a few from all across the country and, of course, as we have been seeing all morning 22 balloons, lots of beloved children's

characters likely the big red dog, daniel tiger, strawberry short cake and hungry cat pill ar. a dozen workers have been here all night getting them ready, volunteers are here to helping inflate, handle them, lets take a listen. >> i'm with the group philadelphia and we hope rescue organizations to raise money for animals. this is my third year doing this. we do it to help out. >> we usually get our first year with santa garfield and then last year was tweetie bird and new we have clifford, we're excited. >> reporter: in philadelphia, i have enjoyed this parade for many years. something i learned this morning just this morning is that a lot of the handlers thaw see carrying balloons down the parade route they are volunteers just like that gentlemen that you just saw on your screen. they really chip in and help and try to bring attention to their cause which for them is animal rescue and then they escort this big guy down route

i'm trang do for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> he has been photo bombing you all morning, rahel there rahel? trang do. >> we're all milk up this morning. >> yes. >> well, in the meantime, the rush is on, as shoppers scrambled to get everything ready for the thanksgiving feast. "eyewitness news" was check goes things at the wegmans supermarket in cherry hill. despite their race against time we found many shoppers still tackling lists for the entire dinner. others were just picking up a few odd and ends. business at the store was brisk. also lot of foot traffic at two of philadelphia's most famous markets. "eyewitness news" caught up with shoppers at italian market and reading terminal market in center city. shoppers we talked to say although it was quiet people were in good spirits as they grabbed last minute items. so every year cacia's bakery in south philadelphia, cooks up its own thanksgiving tradition. >> crop your turkey off and let them cook it for you.

"eyewitness news" reporter pat gallen is live where people are dropping off their turkies , hi there, pat. >> reporter: joe and rahel a south fail tradition, cacia's bakery on thanksgiving morning where line's out the door people waiting to get their turkies in, as you can see the line has been formed since about 3:30, maybe 4:00 a.m. people waiting to have their turkies cooked. we have turkies of all sizes too. they lined them up, tag them and then my man joe over here puts them in the corner to get them ready. these are heaviest. these are heavier. >> heavier turkies over here because they need to go closest to the hot flame, obviously. lighter won back here but we don't discriminate turkies. i will say this though, danielle cacia's here. >> you're looking good. >> looks good. >> beauty school drop out. >> are you having fun.

>> i always have fun this is my favorite day of the year. i goat spend time with my father, my baby brother. >> how sweet. >> reporter: how long have i have you been doing this. >> migrate grandfather started this back in the mid 50's when he opened up the bakery just to make extra money around the holidays. typically, we only have one small oven, so why not bring it here, we will cook it in our brick oven and you have plenty of room for your thanksgiving buddies. >> it doesn't start with the line out the door but started off with a couple people showing up. >> it started with 10 turkies and now we use metal an mark the tags with marker because first year they used crayon. >> not a good move. >> when they went in the oven they melted. it was only 10 turkies back then and they decide who had belonged to who. >> how cool is it to see same people each and every year. >> really special and it makes you understand power of family

police are searching for gunman who shot and killed a man in the triple shooting in southwest philadelphia, shooting started in the 2100 block of 66th street around 6:30 last night. police said a 27 year-old man died at presbyterian hospital and a 26 year-old man remains in critical condition, third victim was a 31 year-old woman who is listed in stable condition this morning. husband and wife are facing first degree murder charges in the stabbing death of the man in montgomery county. lane a lare and austin parkinson is accused of murder nearing collindale. police responded to a shopping center in plymouth meeting on monday and found the 31 year-old kenada dead in the buick which had crashed in the parked car. police say 209 year-old suspect agreed to meet the victim to buy heroin but instead stole the drugs, and then stabbed him to death. well, coming up in the healthwatch why commuters may want to cover their ears when traveling public transportation. learning more about man's best friend how what they do what they are a sleeping could

market where crews are hard at work blowing up this giant balloon, good morning, trang do. >> reporter: good morning. you miss aid whole lot of activity. clifford, big red dog who has been photo bombing me all morning he just exited to get in his position for the big parade but take a look, this is right here, very interesting view right here. this is a balloon before it is , flighted. down market street here, 20th and market you can see your balloons lined up, ready to be moved, they ever war back and they are continuing to blow ball lunes as we speak. but if you are heading down here i want to show you this map of the parade route. it starts at 20th and jfk and travelse on jfk to 16th street where it will turn left on the parkway and of course, will continue up the parkway and eventually ending in front of the art museum, so lets that he a look at the preparations from overnight, and this years parade will feature 140

>> there are 28,000 u.s. trooped in south korea right now. the search continues this morning, for the three u.s. navy personnel missing after a plane crash in the pacific ocean off japan as news correspondent john lawrence reports the accident comes, joining an already troubled year for the nave any that part of the world. >> reporter: military plane carrying is is 11 navy personnel crashed in the philippines sea yesterday this were flying from the japanese station to the u.s.s. ronald reagan aircraft carrier about 500 miles from the okinawa coast. eight people are rescued and in good condition but three remain unaccounted for. >> i'd like everyone to take a moment, and keep our navy family and friends, loved won in their thoughts and prayers report rorrer japanese forces have joined in the search, which the navy says is relentless. >> the fact that eight personnel were able to survive this incident tells thrust was probably very skilled pilot at the stick who was able to in some way bring this aircraft
