>> live from the broadcast center in philadelphia. this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news " this morning. >> ready, set, shop, plan begins for "black friday" bargain hunters, what deals the shopper ers are looking for this holiday season. >> today is friday, november 24, good morning, immerse rahel solomon. >> i'm jan carabeo, jim, katie , meisha, all off today, rahel holding down the the for t for us. >> we're up early, lots of folks getting up and getting their day started lots of headlines, lots of shopping deals, weather not going to be a factor for us, so if you're out there early this morning, if you are getting your day going, already, make sure that you pack the winter coat. because it is a cool start to the "black friday." but, in general, it is going to be a very nice afternoon.

here is storm scan3 this morning. clear conditions for the most part, few high clouds, still here and there, mainly across the lehigh valley, in the poconos, generally quiet, clear clear conditions across philadelphia i. temperature wise, if you are getting ready maybe up already , head out the door, heavy coats for sure, hats, gloves, maybe even scarf. because, temperatures are in the 20's, we're l the only spot in philly even in the 30, a at 316789 so still below the freezing mark, you see 25 in allentown, 25 in millville, 28 this morning waking up in wilmington, delaware. little breezy at times afternoon-wise yesterday. we had the five, 10-mile per hour breeze, overall this morning nice quiet, calm start to the day. winds could still be back up into the five to 10-mile per hour range this afternoon, but actually going to be more of southerly flow, will help keep the temperatures little more mild, maybe more seasonable for our "black friday," so sunshine @ cross the board, day planner, 39 by 9:00 this morning, rahel, jan, up to 52

degrees. more seasonable today, weaver little bit of mess over the weekends, i'll breakdown what we could see shower-wise and then cooler temperatures, as well, in just a little bit. >> matt, thank you. let's check the roads right now, a look at springfield township in orland, at what was an accident on route 309, expressway northbound, paper mill road. it actually just cleared. police were on the scene and the accident was actually located on the shoulder so really weren't any delays. conditions looking good here, route one, with headlights south toward the schuylkill expressway, also, keep eye out on septa this morning to make sure to visit septa.org before headed out the door for schedules, specific delays, service on regional rail, market frankford, norristown high-speed line and broad street have the normal weekday schedule, that's a lot of trolley routes, and septa bus services have modified weekday schedule. and, today's "black friday,l

around the country will be buzzing, with shoppers looking for the best deals of the day. >> "eyewitness news" reporter anita oh, live at the king of prussia mall where folks should be arriving soon, good morning, anita. >> good morning, guys. well, right now it is the calm before the storm before most of these stores reopen at 6:00 s you can see behind me, macy going strong since 6:00 last night, and you can see, in this video from overnight, some of the shoppers bustling around inside of the stores here at the king of prussia mall. and members from the national retail federation show that nearly 60% of shoppers expect to snag their deals on line this year, but here at one of the largest malls in the country, we expect a buz i -- busy day ahead, more than 400 stores open their doors. even spoke with some shoppers who crossed state lines to be here this morning. >> i didn't expect to buy anything, but i bought this awesome shirt? macy's, i love them, it was a good deal, so 70 something

dollars, which is nothing, so it is good, i love it. >> so, a lot of excited shoppers overnight here at macy's which again has been open since 6:00 last night, and the rest of the stores here will open at 6:00 this morning. for now live at king of prussia, anita oh, cbs-3 " eyewitness news." >> i think you said it perfectly, calm before the storm. i've never seen kop quite like that. >> so quiet? with the leftovers from thanksgiving dinner all packed up, shoppers returned out the door to get an early start. >> that's right. "eyewitness news" at the gloucester premium out litz in camden county new jersey last night, bargain hunters were on a mission, as the official holiday shopping season got underway. we spoke with one shopper who tells us about the eager crowd >> it is very busy. it is crowded. there is a lot of bumming and not many excuse-me's either. >> be kinds out, there folks. many shoppers say it is time to walk off the food they ate

at thanksgiving dish, that's smart, others added it is a great way to spend time with family, have fun, and of course save some monday. >> i holiday shoppers weren't just flooding the outletsment shoppers lined up outside of this target in south philadelphia last night, " eyewitness news" was there as doors opened at 6:00 p.m. shoppers grabbed discounted tv 's, coffee makers, some of the season's hottest toys. workers assisted shoppers throughout the store as they hunted for the best deals. and the national retail federation estimates 164 million americans will do some shopping this weekend. nearly a third of shoppers this season will split their shopping between on line and in-store purchases. the national retail federation expects those shoppers to spend close to a thousand dollars on gift. i want to know who these people are. experts say brick and mortar stores have seen a decline in recent years, but consumers still loyal to them for their holiday shopping. >> eight a% every sales during this holiday season will occur in a store, 85%, so the number is still really huge.

this holiday, i know i speak on behalf of all americans that we totally support you, in fact, we love you, we really do, we love you. and this is a thanksgiving that you won't forget. you are at a different part of the worlds than you are used to, but boy are you doing a good job there, and thank god for you. thank god for you. >> and a local service member is waking up in his own home this morning, after a nine month deposition employment in kuwait. >> sergeant jason scott returned home to blackwood for thanksgiving yesterday. the fire department gave scott a grand welcoming. neighbors, friends, family, all thereto cheer and give hugs. scott's wife said his return was unexpected. >> i cried, probably for the first six months that he left, and i didn't think he would make it home for thanksgiving. >> now there is community gives thanks for having scott

home for the holidays. >> we certainly give thanks for their service, absolutely. >> 4:40. >> matt's here with another check on your forecast, matt, chilly yesterday, all things considered, it was pretty clear. what are we looking at today? >> today will be warmer, back up to the 50's, definately chilly day for us on thanksgiving itself. if you were out with family, friends, yesterday afternoon, you definitely felt that chill it was a little bit breezy from time to time yesterday afternoon, too. that breeze is going to subside as we go through the day today. as you take a look outside, live on the neighborhood camera from palmyra cove nature camera, across the bridge in new jersey, you see, it is relatively clear and quiet start to our "black friday," and when we have these clear skies, it usually means it is a little bit cool, especially, in the morning, so if you are already up or maybe just going to be maybe haven't even got to bed just yet, already thinking about "black friday" deals, winter coats this morning, when you get up to go and get all of those deals, at the malls, of course lots open up at 6:00 this

morning, so again, it will be cold, you need the winter jacket early on, sun filled skies later in the day, that's going to help to warm us up much more seasonable temperatures later this afternoon, back up to the 50's for the most part looks like throughout the day today. travel for us, weather not going to be too much after factor for our friday. we will see lots every sunday shine, now, tomorrow, there is a chance for late day shower. we will have cold front come sweeping through. could fire off maybe few light showers here or there, again, late in the day tomorrow. so we gave you a yellow light saturday. but back to green light for sunday, sunshine, little breezy for us as we wrap our weekend up. current temperatures, we see the 20's out to the lehigh vale, even in the poconos, 29, actually warmer, excuse me, warmer in the poconos than allentown at 25 degrees, just below the freezing mark in philly. down all the way to 22 to kick off this "black friday" morning, in millville. check out the seven day forecast, 52 degrees this afternoon, seen on recall day. late day showers saturday, we

go up to 67 for the high temperature tomorrow. mild saturday afternoon for us even though we don't see ton every sunday shine. eagles gape sunday, 48 degrees little breeze sunday. so headed down to the birds game, maybe tailgating early in the day, it will be little cool. take the jacket again with you through the morning and then into the afternoon, as well. then we see steady rise in temperatures, guys, going through monday, actuals, even into wednesday, thursday, there up near 06 degrees on tuesday and wednesday, then another chance for maybe shower, jan, rahel, as we get to the ends of it. >> thank you, let's take a look at the roads now, live look at eastbound schuylkill schuylkill, montgomery drive. taillights look like they're going westbound, maybe some folks headed out for the macy kop where anita is. conditions look good now but expect more volume with the day progressing, with many folks off and maybe going shopping. >> closer to the city the vine street expressway near the schuylkill expressway with taillights headed towards the schuylkill. conditions looking great, and really light in both directions. >> same story for the ben franklin bridge with this

really yet again looking like postcard this morning with the bridge being cleared in and out of the city, and little to no volume. yes, i like it. philadelphia has successfully pulled off yet another thanksgiving day parade. now, going 98 years strong. floats, marching bands, other musical acts marched down the ben franklin parkway yesterday this is the oldest thanksgiving day parade in the entire country. performers for more than 100 different groups arrived early to rehearse their routine teens. >> we are super excited to be here. we're not just honored, we're blessed, because of thanksgiving. >> the crowds cheered for their favorite bands and float along with their favorite football teams. had a whole lot of eagles fans out there yesterday. security was tight all along the route. philadelphia police secured all of the entrances around the art museum with large trucks. security was also ramped up at the 91st macy thanksgiving day parade in new york. about 3 million people lined the parade route there yesterday, to take in all of

>> crest mass village officially opened yesterday. zero eight vendors set up for the first time since construction began almost two years ago, love park itself is still undergoing construction, the project expected to be finished by spring, christmas village open every day through christmas eve. meantime not everyone spent the thanksgiving holiday the way you would think. >> some in the area took a break from the football, food and shopping and decided to celebrate in a different way. park last night where folks took to the ice instead of the local shopping malls. at 30th street station we caught 12 friends who usually spend their thanksgiving in germany. >> we had great experience when he was living in germany. american way of celebrating thanksgiving, but this year it is completely different. our kids are gone. it is like what are we going to do. >> so we breeze back over here and go into fill. >> i first thanksgiving those two spent in the u.s. in eight years. how about this? ironically the holiday involved no thanksgiving feast , no bargain hunting, and no football. so was it really thanksgiving or was it just november 23rd? >> friendship, family, that's all that matters. >> americans will be opening their wallets wide, "black friday" and cyber monday, but customs officials are urging people to watch out for counter fit items. >> kenneth craig report now from jnk international airport in new york. >> from electronics, to designer handbags, to shoes, these look like some of the hottest items this holiday season.

but us customs and border protection says they're all safe. >> when you look at a buffalo bills jersey, and you see the fabric bleeding, so that the lines cut across, that's pretty obvious to our officers >> nationally the number of seizures has risen every year since 2,007 and jumped 25% from 2015. last year, officers seized $1.38 billion in counterfeit goods, and made 451 arrests. federal investigators say most of the knock-offs have been coming from china and hong kong, but recently distributors have been exchanging the countries they're shipping from to try to fool inspect tons here at the port. homeland security agent say it is not a victim-less crime. sales of counterfeit goods often benefit terrorist groups >> you have organizations such as hesbola that are utilizing counterfeit, to be able to source their effort abroad.

they were part of a school internship program. jan, rahel? >> all right, well, a lot of people are out shopping, diane , holiday weekends are usually a big weekend for the box office. what can we expect? >> that's right. the new movie cocoa is expected to take the top spot at the box office this weekend , the picsar movie hit theatres on wednesday. it is about a boy who somehow ends up in the land of the dead, during the celebrations, cocoa expected to bring in $51 million over the holiday weekends, justice league set to bring in another 47 million , and wonder is predicted to make additional $29 million. and rahel, i hope, ladies, both had a good holiday. we basically finished eating thanksgiving dinner and then rolled into work. >> are you doing any shopping today, diane? >> doubtful. i don't know. i mean, ya. >> ya, we're right there with you, diane. >> i want to say that's going to be a no.

>> the biggest shopping day of the year kick off overnight. >> rushed to see the deals as soon as the stores opened. correspondent laura has a look at the frantic video. >> ten, nine, eight ... >> at stores across america shop remembers braving the lines and the crowds. >> anybody who wants tv's will go this way. >> to take advantage of some of the lowest prices of the year. in los angeles, deals of 50 and 06% off at this outlet mall, nearby at toys "r" us, this lady gave us a look at her radically reduced receipt. >> would normally be 700, it is only four, so saved 300. >> in houston texas "black friday" is emotional day for families trying to replace

items lost in the hurricane. >> just to have a house back, and see my son happy for christmas, see my dad, my mom, my husband, and, you know, i'm just grateful to have them here. that's what i'm real happy about. >> industry experts say this one day extravaganza has been going on all month, offering discount to get people through their doors and spending cash. >> the reality is that bricks and mortar retailers still the dominant part of retail. >> and it is not just clothing and electronic stores getting in on the action. in milwaukee, wisconsin, these people braved the cold for " black friday" beer. this brewery only offers this special brew one day a year. >> laura, for cbs-3, " eyewitness news". >> the calm stampede i've ever seen. >> at least everyone is being safe out there. matt, we've already established jan and i are not shopping. how about you? >> i will not be shopping today. i'm a big cyber monday fan.

>> yes. >> same here. >> i like to sit on my couch with my cup of coffee and that's how i do my shopping. >> but if you are headed out today at least the weather will be clear. >> it will, it will be pretty nice afternoon, with the sunshine out there, temperatures little bit warmer , but if you're up here early, and do you want to get the early morning deals, take your winter coat with you. because, it is a very, very chilly start to "black friday ." these are current temperatures out there right now. here in philly, at the airport anyway sitting just below the freezing mark at three; surrounding suburbs, down into the 20's. you see trenton, even at 25 this morning, atlantic city down at the shore, 27, wildwood 29, as you head up into the lehigh valley actually cooler than the poconos, allentown at 25, reading at 26, and mount pocono, at 27. so, no matter where you are, whether you're up near tannersville at those outlet, down here in fill, you're going to kop, even again down toward atlantic city doing shopping down there, you need the winter jacket early on. temperatures here this morning , not all that

different from what we actually saw yesterday. only about 5 degrees or so even cooler this morning, than we were yesterday. but, again, still little bit after chill out there. when you step out the door. storm scan3, quiet and clear picture there. we have a few high clouds up toward lehigh valley and the poconos, not so much going on, though. and here is your "black friday " temperature forecast through the day. 7:00 this morning, pretty much right after the stores open, 31 degrees. we stay in the 30's, and 40's, guys, before lunchtime, but we will get up into the lower 50 's, by the time we hit the afternoon. >> all right, matt, thank you. quiet out on the roads this morning, taking live look now at i-95 at the international airport with taillights headed toward the stadium. right now, philadelphia international airport is overall status is on time, but do make sure to check out the website before heading out to make sure, but weather now playing a factor this season, at least not this holiday. going over to new jersey now, live view of route 42 near i 2956789 drive times looking great right now. we do of course expect less volume since it is a holiday.
