, thank you. three teenagers are charged as adults tonight in connection with the death of a man in northeast philadelphia the 57 year-old victim was found over a week ago beaten and unconscious, on a street in the mayfair section of the city. >> "eyewitness news" reporter a leash's nieves live outside police headquarters with the details on how police caught up with the suspects, alycia. >> reporter: police say they have received tips from the community and a lot of help from officials over at lincoln high school. we are told that three teens charged all were students at that high school. now authorities also added that they did find a cell phone, near where the 57 year-old man was beat up and that was first step in closing in on their teenage suspects and now alleged killer. with a week after this 57 year-old man kevin cullen was robbed, beaten, and killed, here along luring street in mayfair these three teens have ban rested and then charge. >> they were all charged with murder-related offences. >> reporter: three teens, emmanuel harris, 16 year-old malik page and 14 year-old

brandon conrad all lived in mayfair and were all lincoln high school students. now they are in jail, facing murder charges, as adults. >> we know when we confirmed through the investigation that the motive was robbery. mr. cullen's pockets were turned out. other items in the investigation led us there as well. >> reporter: unaudible. >> nothing to say. >> reporter: people in this mayfair community who put up a memorial for kevin cullen knew him as a man who at the time of his death was going through a rough patch and didn't have much to take. >> he was bouncing from place to place, living with different people, at times, definitely well known in the neighborhood. frankly we had been having neighbors nothing say about the man. >> reporter: kevin cullen is dead killed allegedly by hits to the head he took from these three teens and they may spend the rest of hear lives in jail philadelphia homicide captain john ryan says that this is an unfortunate reminder to all teens. >> committing robbery is not

the answer for important dumb, it shouldn't be a right of passage. tragic consequences. >> reporter: authorities told us just a little while ago they do not expect to make anymore arrests in this case, even though they believe that there was a fourth person present during the beaten, beating of mr. kevin cullen. now authorities would not elaborate anymore on why that fourth person will not be charged. for now reporting live outside philadelphia police headquarters alycia nieves for cbs-3 eyewitness news. a philadelphia judge has denied a bail request for jail rapper meek mill, entertainer 's legal team urged the judge to reconsider a two to four year sentence handed down last in for probation violations. judge jeanine brinkly wrote in the 119 page opinion mill is a danger to himself and the community, because of what she says is a history of continued drug use. she also claims that he is an increased flight risk. mill remains behind bars at a

state prison in chester. the judge has since refused to comment. a former north charleston police officer faces up to life in prison for shooting death of an unarmed black man, sentencing phase of michael slager's federal trial began in the south carolina courtroom. he pleaded guilty in may to violating the civil rights of walter scott, former officer shot scott in april 2015 after scott fled a traffic stop. cell phone video from an eyewitness capture that deadly confrontation, his sentencing hearing could last several days. woman is lucky to be alive after a hail of bullets struck her car as she drove through north philadelphia this morning. police were called to the 1800 block of inning sol street just before 2:00 a.m. detectives discovered bullet holes in the woman's car and across the windshield. woman was not hurt and police are investigating. a crash involving a school bus in chester sent several students to the hospital, it happened around 7:45 this morning, near second and till man streets. police say minivan hit bus

the nation's highest court is hearing a case that could make sports betting legal, in the garden state. new jersey voters approved a resolution, 2011 to allow it , and then governor christie signed tonight to law three years later. but since then effort has been tied up in court. governor christie says that the state comes out on the winning side, gamblers could begin taking bets within two weeks of the high court decision. new jersey wants to appropriately regulate sports gaming, and here's why, because we want to do it because 65 percent of the people of new jersey said they want to do it and we have a long experience, of over 40 years of casino gaming in our state where we have shown we can appropriately regulate, gambling in the state. 1992 federal law bans sports bet nothing all but four states, delaware, montana , nevada and oregon. cherry greg from kyw news radio was inside the supreme

court, for today's proceedings >> she joins us from our satellite center and what can you tell everyone about the key argument, made today. >> good afternoon ukee and jessica all about the federal can tell, states what they can and cannot do. for its part new jersey argued that it should be allowed, to bring in sports betting and casinos and race track, as we heard governor chris christie said they have don doing it for many years. they argued that the law in question, the professional, amateur sports protection act, stops them from doing that. they have been trying to repeal a part of the law that criminal ices sports betting in casino. federal government has told them that they cannot do this. now the ncaa has said that look, you know, sports betting would under mind the integrity of sports. despite the fact that, illegal sports betting is rampant, there are reports that the industry makes a hundred

billion with a b, dollars a year. so they are arguing that look this law has been in the books we are not telling new jersey what to do but what we are telling them is they need to stay out of sports betting all except those four states grandfathered back in 1992. but here, i want to point out that the justices were asking lots of questions, and because they hate controversy they hate dealing with constitutional issues, many believe that they will find a way to resolve this issue were not, without dealing with what the federal government can and cannot tell states to do with regard to sports betting. >> we understand to that end the ruling in this case can have broader implications beyond sports betting. >> definitely. if the court were to deal with this constitutional issue under the tenth amendment, it could deal with whether or not sanctuary policies remain legal, and it could also deal with whether or not additional states candy criminalized or
