in the lake view terrace area and his home is miles away in lake balance bowa. his neighborhood is smokey but home is safe. others have not been as fortunate. fire fighters battled raging flames just inch's way from homes in ventura county. the wind whipped blaze, broke out monday and rapidly ignited vegetation that fire officials say hasn't burned in decade. >> i have lived in ventura mess of my life and never seen anything like this it just brings tears to my eyes. >> reporter: desperate homeowners used garden hose toss help save their property. >> my mom and dad's house, they have lived here for seven generations. >> reporter: many battles have being lost, flames devoured dozens of homes and businesses , and thousands more are threatened. evacuation order are in place for nearly 8,000 homes. shifting winds are making it very difficult for fire fighters to get the up are hand. >> our biggest areas are the sit irv ventura with structure

coming in and wanting something completely different this construction site of a planned middle school in montgomery county has cost taxpayers of the upper perkiomen school district, so far, nearly 10 million-dollar. >> that is 10 million-dollar, that may now be a complete waste, money down the drain. >> it is just disappointing and violation frankly of their ethics code. >> reporter: hope manion is a mother with two elementary school kid in the district and she's stunned by a sudden school board decision last month to end the construction of the upper perkiomen middle school. >> this was going to alleviate three schools of overcrowding problems. >> reporter: now she and many other parents in the district worry their kid will continue to be in an overcrowded school system while paying for all of the costs associated with stopping a project like this in its track. >> we will be spending 20, 30, 40 million-dollar for a big hole in the ground. >> we didn't feel we needed this school. >> reporter: melanie cunningham is one of the four new school board members who was sworn in last night and

judge who jailed mill denied to release him. mill's lawyers have been trying to get the judge removed alleging misconduct in the case. mill's sentenced to two to four years in prison last month for violating probation on a decade old gun and drug case. today's day two of the eventensing hearing for former south carolina police officer michael slager, he pleaded guilty in may to violating civil rights of walt are scott , and slager fatally shot scott as he ran away from the traffic stop in 2015. slager faces a life sentence with you federal sentencing officials have recommended between 10 to 13 years in prison. two days before the seventh sixth anniversary of the attack on pearl harbor veterans gathered to remember the soul's who on that faithful day this morning, veterans from all branches of the military, attended a special ceremony at battleship new jersey museum and memorial it featured a 21 gun solute, wreath laying, and musical performances by a local high school band and group. update now on a story we

working from home can reduce turn over and improve moral. todd miller's commute is all of 25 seconds from the first floor of his house, downstairs to his basement computer. >> the whole office world i was traveling many hours a day going to the office working in the cubicles and it just got insane. there has to be a better way. >> reporter: miller works for a company designing training programs that lets employees work from home. he says he is able to avoid distractions and more productive. >> you need discipline. everything is the way you build your day to the way you dress and way you treat things >> reporter: in i survey 39 percent of people who work from home said they put in extra hearst compared to 24 percent of people, at the office. >> there is a sort of double edged sword and companies have to help their people learn to manage this tendency to over work. they tend to give back 50 to 60 percent of the time they would have otherwise spent
