tackle. we over came our middle linebacker. we've overcome our running back. we've overcome a core special teams player this year, our kick they are year. this is no, no different. you know, yes, he is the quarterback of our football team. and each one of these guys that i mentioned is tough to replace. tough to replace. but, you know what? the reason we went out and got nick foles is for reasons like this and for situations like this. and i am a excited for nick, obviously, i hate it forecaster carson wentz. i hate it for the career, or the season, i guess, he's been having. but at the same time it has been the next man up mentality that's how we approach it this week. >> how soon before carson has surgery and everything? >> didn't discuss that yet. >> is there a chance to talk to him, what was your message to him? >> i didn't see him today. i got him in. got him out. didn't see him today. so i'll see him probably later in the week.

there they can't lose fate. >> this has been resilient football team all season long and, you know, if there is ever an opportunity for me as a head football coach to rail the troops, you know, now might be the time. >> you know, we just came off a tremendous victory, to win the nfc east. guys are riding extremely hi, little bittersweet. but you know what? we got the giants this week ment and we got an opportunity, if you win, if you win sunday, you get a first round bye. you know? so there is cents still a lot to play for. and that's what's exciting for the rest of this season, the opportunity to be in that game and nick has played a ton of football. and i was here when we drafted him. and we drafted him for a reason. then we went out and got him again this off season for a reason. and, you never want it to be under these circumstances but at the same time, you know, my
12:13 pm
confidence is extremely high in nick. you saw what he did in that game last night. the big third and eight, nelson, i mean, these are things, people ask me, well, why did you throw the ball? because i got confidence in nick. i got confidence in the guys. and that's what i'm going to continue to do. i'm going to continue to stay aggressive. aim go to go leave this football team, you know, falls more on my shoulders than it does on these players. that's why they need to stay excited about this opportunity that we have in front of us. >> back up, nick foles, played in playoffs, played well, as opposed to maybe younger guys? >> it is huge, it is huge. because, you know, yes. we would love to be one and two, and everything, everything is great. but, you know, at the same time i know and i think everybody in this room knows and everybody out there knows that if you don't have a back- up quarterback that's played, had snaps in this league, it is tough. it is tough to continue the
12:14 pm
things that you've done, and the things you've built this season. so, i think it is valuable. and i think it is a credit to, you know, to how i and joe and the guys, and my relationship with nick, and to bring a guy like that in here, who is very capable of getting the job done. >> nick has the track record, different quarterback than wentz. how much more do you have this week -- >> that's the other thing, that's interesting. from the standpoint of you say mobile. you know, when was the last time we an r po where carson ran the football on a run? when was the last time outside after scramble that we designed a run forecaster on wentz? we haven't done that many times at all. so going forward, there is not much we have to do. you know? it is more or less just what is he comfortable with? what is he, you know, what's nick familiar with?
12:15 pm
and, you know, i've known him for a lot of years. and, you know, we'll continue to have the same, you know, communication that carson and i had during the weeks. and carson will be a big part of helping nick get ready, too you know? so not much going forward will have to change. >> (question from the press). >> there are all kind of timetables -- >> no, i don't want to put any limitations on that. >> a lot like, you know, jordan hicks, and, you know, jason peters, these guys, i mean, he can be around, be in the meeting rooms. can he watch the tape. he can, you know, even as much as being thereon game day, you know, and be another set of
12:16 pm
eyes, and for the quarterbacks for nick, you know, just having his input, having him around, you know, around the guys, too, it would be a big, would be a big boost, and obviously an opportunity for him now to put the coaching hat on and to help nick. >> the (question from the press). >> have you talked to about how -- carson is available -- did you talk to him about -- for the off season, carson? >> you know what? i'm focused on the new york giants, man. i'm not even focused on -- no, not right now, not right now. >> you mentioned the rpo's -- (question from the press). >> -- has it changed at all with carson's skill set? >> no.
12:17 pm
what do you mean, when you say rpo, you mean, you mean when he runs? >> well -- >> when was the last time he ran on a designed run? >> his below bill at this. >> usually common scramble. our rpo is much different now than it was the beginning of the season, and, you know, even in the game yesterday, some of the rpo's we did, you know, if you pay it close attention, they're down the field throws. and they're quarterback pocket throws. so we're not asking our quarterback to expose himself, necessarily, on a designed qb run. >> there are reports ... can you confirm that? >> i can. >> what's that? >> oh, the report. yes, no. yes, he can practice this week , yes, he's been cleared to practice. >> the fact, first bye, does
12:18 pm
that make nick foles' task little less daunting with this already accomplish? >> that's interesting, because , you know, we're still fighting not only for a playoff game, but also home field. so, you know, it is still pretty important these next few games, these next three weeks for us, as a team, and, you know, our mentality is like we're just going to focus on this week, and try to put the best game plan together, and try to go win a football game, you know, up in new york this week. and then see what happens after that. but, yes, it is just, you know , we still have a lot, a lot in front of us, a lot to play for. >> (question from the press). >> i'll be fine, he will be day-to-day. so, you know, i expect him to probably do some walk-through things and individual
12:19 pm
potentially on wednesday, and just give them, you know, a day-to-day situation with him. >> we had couple of times where, you know, we were getting cut out of our lane, and then just missing tackles, missing tackles, that's just something that we got to focus on this week, got to get better at that, too many yards have to contact yesterday, and then the runner obviously in the open, in the open field. so guys will get a chance to watch the tape, make corrections, you know, down the stretch, we got to make sure we sure that end of it up >> the last six years, how much ... (question from the press). >> i think it is huge. i think it really is huge. kind of knowing how he thinks, same way, you know, kind of knowing how -- he he has seen me call these games this year, and so i think that
12:20 pm
relationship is going to be probably even better now, obviously, that, you know, he gets the starting job and all of the roles and all of the reps and everything during the week. so, you know, just something that i look forward to in getting him ready to go for sunday. >> back up quarterback, what are you seeing from him, are you comfortable with the back- up role? >> nate's done real good job, part of the reason we brought him up, you know, earlier in the year. >> teams were interested. and we feel real comfortable with him, obviously, and, you know, i've been there, too, i've been there as the third quarterback being brought up. and now the number two. so, you know, not only are we getting nick ready, but also nate at the same time has to be prepared to go in and play. >> a lot of confidence. >> offense, very similar with
12:21 pm
nick. a lot more on time, especially development and other -- nick is getting the same keys to the car the way you had it with carson? the whole thing? >> ya. ya. understand this, he is a veteran player, who has played , and he's won a lot of game. not only here, but other places that he's been. and nick's a highly intelligent football player. he's smart. you know, to the point of, you know, he and i are going to continue to dialogue like carson and i did during the week. and i want to make sure that there are plays in this plan that he's comfortable with, that he likes, i want him to speak his mind, just like carson would. and we can keep going. so, you know, this is a veteran player we're talking about, and so i feel comfortable doing that.
12:22 pm
>> (question from the press). >> i have not. >> as a follow up on jones, 21 day window, are you hoping to get him back for the playoffs, or just -- >> yes, we're just to the point we want to see him out there running around, doing football activity. you know, he is outside of the normal work-outs that he's been doing really changing direction, and doing more football work this week. >> as a head coach, how big after challenge is that for you right now to make sure everyone is okay after losing the player? >> huge. you know, i think even the guys felt it after the game yesterday, that we just rally, man, we just support the next guy, and, you know, from my stand point, you don't waiver, man, you don't let people see you sweat. you just put your head down and you just go to work. you get everybody ready to
