center in philadelphia, this is cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> tonight at 11 o'clock there's a grinch on the loose in camden. someone stole more than a thousand dollars from a south jersey church fundraiser. good evening everyone i'm natasha brown. thank you so much for joining us. the church is scrambling to try to replace that money. they were going t use to it brighten up the holidays for children and families in the community. "eyewitness news" reporter cleve bryan is live in camden tonight with video of the suspect police are looking for cleve. >> reporter: natasha we all know the expression it's better to give than receive, especially around christmastime and in this case, the suspect stole money from a church fundraiser here at sacred heart parish meant to help those in need. >> we give out 1,000 christmas baskets. >> reporter: the season of giving is at hand in south camden's sacred heart parish but police say two sundays ago this man helped himself. he allegedly stole about $1200 from a fundraiser where

parishioners buy and sell homemade goods in the church basement. >> it's a very joyous occasion. people are eating and drinking and buying and having a good time. released this video of the man they say stole from the church in hopes you can help identify him. >> the good part of it was that nobody was attacked or hurt. >> reporter: father michael doyle who has been at the church for more than 40 years was doing a special mass to bless expectant mothers at the time of the theft. he says1e the money from t fundraiser would have helped next week when they give out a thousand food baskets to families in south camden. he says the loss won't stop their efforts and if they need more money, he says god will use his people to provide. >> my grandfather. >> who when he had a bad day, he said it's a terrible day thanks be to god . >> [laughter] >> reporter: and that's how youl. >> that's how i feel. >> reporter: parishioner lynn cummings says the theft is disappointing but.

>> the gospel tells us to forgive. we are a haven for people who feel as though the church doesn't want them because maybe they're not worthy and they're welcomed here. >> reporter: sacred harry parish will be filling food baskets on thursday and friday if you would like to help out or donate contact the church and if you know who that man is in the video contact camden police. live in camden, i'm cleve bryan cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> cleve, thank you very much. now yesterday's snow meantime has all but melted by now and the slush is turning back to ice but those slick conditions aren't going to last very long. there's a warmup on the way for us. meteorologist lauren casey is live in the weather center with a look at what's coming up for us. >> we'll get a break from the snowfall but we got several doses over the last couple of weeks in philadelphia. now our total 7.7-inches of december snowfall. on average we see about 3.8-inches of snow so we've doubled that so far and we still have a good chunk of

december to go but right now we are not adding to that tally. storm scan3 showing us quiet conditions a couple patchy clouds across the delaware valley. temperatures they are chill and they are subfreezing in some areas. 29 millville, 24 mount pocono, hovering around freezing in wilmington and dover. 38 degrees in philadelphia, so yeah, we saw quite a bit of melting today and some of that could refreeze during the overnight period, so slick spots on the roadways. watch out for that throughout the overnight and early tomorrow morning. we have a shot albeit kind of patchy shot at some freezing rain as we head into tomorrow night so we'll talk about the areas that will most likely see a little bit of freezing rain. as we head into next week the official start of winter next thursday and we'll be warming temperatures. one day we'll make a run at 60 degrees and i'll let you know when to expect that in your full "eyewitness news" forecast coming up in a few natasha. >> lauren thank you so much. see you soon. developing tonight additional security is on the job for new jersey senator cory booker and his family

after they received death threats this weekend. according to the mayor of newark, u.s. capitol police notified law enforcement in the city about the threat. now officers are working with newark police to provide security at the booker home. so far no details have been provided about the specifics of the threat. a ski lift accident meantime injured five skiers. it strands dozens of others high above the slopes much these pictures were taken at tussey mountain 80 miles northwest of harrisburg. officials say one chair flipped backwards and into the chair behind it causing effect. emergency responders used ropes to rescue about 50 people. that took more than an hour. no word on what caused the malfunction. our region does continue to support a montgomery county family who lost their two young sons in a devastati fire. the tragedy happ summit avenue in schwenksville on wednesday morning. montgomery county sheriff's deputy brian lukens, his wife and daughter all survived the fire but their 11 and

six-year-old sons both died after getting trapped inside. today the cpya held a pancake breakfast to help raise money for the family. >> it's been unbelievable honestly its a small community in schwenksville but i feel like every person is contributing some way somehow to helping the family and that's all that really matters right now is how people can help. >> investigators say an extension cord plugged into a space heater sparked the fire. authorities searching for the driver of the car that struck and killed a 46-year-old man in chester. the driver never stopped. the hit-and-run happened in the southbound lanes at highland avenue about 3 o'clock this morning. police identified the victim now as ronald williams. investigators say he was struck after getting out of his car for an unknown reason. the striking vehicle is believed to be a black into your model volkswagen. police say it should also have damage to the front end as well as the windshield. and radnor now embracing new technology.

officers are moving away from paper citations and welcoming in the digital age. "eyewitness news" reporter anita oh found out how the change is actually helping to streamline the process for officers. and those unlucky enough to get a ticket. >> reporter: while getting a traffic ticket is hardly enjoyable the process of issuing one in radnor township is getting stream lined. gone are the days radnor township police officers have to issue handwritten paper citations which leave room for error and take time to process. >> the reason for your excessive speed today. >> reporter: with the help of a new piece of technology,. >> yup, very simple to us 82. >> reporter: officers say they no longer have to get in and out of their car multiple times in high traffic areas, plus drivers can spend less time at a traffic stop. >> by scanning this in two scans all that information is populated in literally under five seconds. >> reporter: the department purchased nine of these hand held devices at about $3,000 each. radnor officials say this is

the first local police department in the state to use them. deputy superintendent chris flanagan says the department started planning for the hand held devices two years ago which instantly scan the bar code on a driver's license and car registration. >> reduces the amount of time that officers are on scene. frees up the public quicker. it also gives a very professional document. >> reporter: the company behind the device, united public safety hopes to add another feature shortly. >> this hopefully soon will be able to once we enter the driver's information will let us know potentially if any warrants exist. right now checking for warrants is not an instant process nor is it done at every traffic stop. >> this will allow technology all to come into one point and give us maximum safety and efficiency. >> reporter: in radnor township anita tow cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> in washington, president trump says that he expects the tax reform bill to be passed before christmas. this weekend lawmakers are reading through the final version of the tax bill before voting on it next week. the final plan includes seven

personal tax brackets with rates dropping for almost everyone. democrats say there will be less money going to programs that many americans rely on. >> seniors, disabled americans and veterans all count on various tax provisions that are now on the choppingck. effectively raising their taxes. >> this is going to be one of the great christmas gifts to middle income people. >> democrats also point out that most of the personal tax cuts would expire by 2025. and now the trump administration is reportedly prohibiting the use of seven words and phrases in official cdc documents for next year's budget. according to the washington post the words are fetus transgender, diversity along with vulnerable entitle. evidence based and science based. the department of health and human services says the report is not accurate aren't.

>> welcome back. philadelphia city council passed a bill this weekend that will force beer delis to comply with state law. asian business owners called the measure a kill bill referring to a provision that could eventually call for the removal of bulletproof barriers. cherri gregg of kyw news radio took a tour of the so-called stop and goes to see what the controversy is all about. >> reporter: this is kenny's seafood and stakes on wayne avenue. when you go inside behind large plexiglass barriers there's beer tobacco products and single servings of medications for sale. >> you see a number of different cigerello product. >> reporter: liquor laws require seating for 30 and an accessible bathroom. >> this does not fit the requirement ofk- being a restaurant. >> reporter: kenny's owner they sell little food. >> what do you sell the most?

>> beer, sodas. >> reporter: the asian-american licensed beverage association strongly opposed the bill rallying near city hall. there beef, the bill gives licenses power to create rules for possible removal of the plexiglass barriers in 2021. >> our city needs fully prepared. >> reporter: chang roy's is that was gunned down in their south philadelphia shop. >> more people die, yes. >> reporter: she now has plexiglass and members of alba believe removal of plexiglass will push them out of business. what do you say to the business owners who claim that this bill is race discrimination. >> i really don't care what race they are. they could be burple for all i care. what we care about is taking care of our citizens taking care of our communities and this is a business model that is completely unacceptable no matter who is running it. >> reporter: bass says the bill which mayor kenney is expected to sign is not about

the glass. it's about stopping the sale of beer blunts and more. >> what they really are are places that you can buy products to get high. >> reporter: she says their goal not to shut down the delis but to get them to stop selling adds diction producing products in vulnerable communities. cherri gregg for cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> an apology from celebrity chef mario batali is confusing some. it's going viral this weekend following allegations of sexual misconduct. in his online newsletter the former host of ""the chew"" acknowledged many mistakes and apologized for disappointing family friends and fans. he also included a recipe for cinnamon rolls saying "ps in case you're searching for a holiday inspired breakfast these pizza dough cinnamon rolls are a fan favorite." kiss frontman gene simmons sued for sexual battery. a civil complaint filed in los

angeles on friday says he groped a woman at a restaurant opening. his accuser who has not been identified now says she was interviewing simmons at the time and according to the complaint he used the situation to inappropriately touch her throat and buttocks. meantime as flames continue to burn through southern california, smoke from the enormous wildfire, it can be seen from space. a nasa satellite here captured this image of a thick blanket of brown smoke streaming from the fire. winds are also fueling the flames this weekend. new evacuation to about it's being enforced in santa barbara county now. the evacuation zone is about 17 miles long and 5 miles wide. the thomas fire is bearing down on montecito which is home to oprah winfrey and other celebrities. winds are gusting at 60 miles an hour. the fire has burned more than 700 homes since december 4th and 1 firefighter died battling that blaze on thursday. all right, well, lauren casey is in with us now. okay, snow is out of here.

>> yup. >> hopefully the cold weather will be soon. >> yes. old man winter he's going take a break. he made an early appearance. he's going to take a little nap before he comes back. we have one mild day in store next week but more snow yesterday and a chilly day today. but a today and we did some melting with that sunshine and above freezing temperatures. we didn't make it to normal. our high temperature 42 degrees in philadelphia. our normal high 44. and we had a chilly start to the day downó" this morning. getting a live look at center city philadelphia, all is temperatures 38 degrees a southerly wind around 7 miles per hour so feeling more like 33 at this hour. but temperature change over the last 24 hours. we are much more mild, even though it's still chilly on the order of about 10 to even 20 degrees from this time yesterday evening but despite that temperatures are still near or below that freezing mark. there's some conce for black

ice overnight tonight a did quite a bit of melting today so slick spots on the roads so use extreme caution if you're traveling out and about. overnight in the city we'll be dropping down below freezing 29 degrees and with those light winds that will allow ice to form more efficiently for our sunday. pretty quiet day though if you've got that christmas shopping to do. sunshine to start then increasing clouds, 41 degrees so chilly. light winds not too much of a wind chill impact for our sunday. storm scan3 showing us quiet conditions across the region, no flakes falling right now as we get a live look on our neighborhood network all is quiet in rehoboth beach right now, light wind speeds as well. future weather showing us a quiet start to the last day of our weekend. patchy clouds for the first half of the day. increasing clouds into the afternoon but we stayed precipitation free during the daylight hours but as we head into tomorrow night we'll see a little moisture moving in. you do notice some of this pink breaking out that does indicate the potential for some patchy light freezing

rain, pockets of just light rain liquid rainfall possible as well. again, it's not going to be widespread in nature. not going to be heavy in intensity. but if you have to be on the roads sunday night early monday morning it's something you have to consider because it can make for slick spots. that threat will minimize in time for our monday morning commute so good news for there. this threat will mainly come in the overnight period as we head into the day tomorrow. we could see very light accumulations of ice. even if we just see .02 of ice or freezing rain that could yield very slick conditions in some areas so keep that in mind. as we head into monday we begin our warmup. 48 degrees under mostly cloudy skies to kick off the work week. then check out tuesday. a random and very mild day 57 degrees. our record high temperature for the day is actually 65. but then as we head into wednesday, we chill things off once again. back closer to average just in

flyers on the power play e@ and we talked about kind of system and how we want to play in overtime. he did a good job on a couple of the shots they had but overall we played pretty well. >> the eagles may have to shuffle the offensive line tomorrow when they play the giants. guard instead of van wisniewski listed as questionable with an ankle injury. if he can't go chance wore mac or isaac will start. eagles defense need to step up out much they have given up 59 points in the last two games. the seahawks and rams were seven for seven in the red birds. while the giants have one of the worst s offenses in the league, the eagles aren't taking them lightly. >> we've got to pin them down

gabe kepler lit a giant menorah. a caravan of trucks delivered all of these toys to youth service incorporated in west philly today. these gifts are all part of the tenth annual tri-state area tow for tots. ysi provides support services for thousands of kids every year. >> our volunteers show up with food and clothes and toys like you see in this room. it is overpowering for many families. they -- i've seen people cry just not -- just in awe of someone being so kind and generous. >> tow for tots is organized guy dave and charles norton of the norton low lodge. we certainly will be collecting all day long beginning at 6:00 a.m. until 8:00 p.m. monday night right here at cbs3 studios. we hope that you can stop by say hi and drop off a new unwrapped toy for a little boy
