cars before today break as we have learned shocking information about the speed, of the train. investigators say it was going three times the speed limit when it derailed. good afternoon, aim jim donovan. i'm rahel solomon. am track train 501 was making a run a loss a faster route when it left tracks south of seattle. chris martinez live with what investigators are saying today >> crews lifted train cars stabilizing the scene of the derailment. national transportation safety board, says that the train, event data recorder, indicated that the amtrak train was traveling, 50 miles over the speed limit, when it jumped the track. the. >> yes question is why was the train traveling 80 miles an hour in a 30-mile an hour zone the answer to that question is it is too early to tell. >> reporter: train was making its first run on the faster new route from sat toll port land. but when the train entered a curve over the interstate, one of the engines and 12 cars, derailed. slamming into cars, and trucks , below.

>> amtrak 501 emergency, we are on the ground. >> is everybody okay? >> aim still figuring that out we have cars every where, here and down on the highway. >> authorities say that the train was carrying, 80 passengers and five on duty crew members. >> all of a sudden it was just crash and there it was, down, i mean, the train went just like this. >> reporter: amtrak says positive train control the technology that can slow or stop a speeding train was not activated on the tracks at the time of the derailment. at lee one local official, blake wood mayor don anderson voiced safety concerns at a new line at a city council meeting earlier this month. >> so that if there is an accident,... unaudible. >> reporter: ntsb expects to start interviewing the train crew as early as today. chris martinez for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". we are hearing from a pair of good smart tans who stopped to help trapped victims moments after the derailment happened.

celebrating on twitter saying this is biggest tax cuts and reform ever passed. enjoy, create and create many beautiful jobs. weijia jiang for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". inner news this noon philadelphia police are asking for the public's help identifying two suspects who robbed a juniata 7-eleven with a rifle. this surveillance video was recorded this past sunday at 7-eleven on the 3900 block of kensington avenue. police say suspects took cash and $1,600 worth of cigarettes from the store. they robbed two employees of cash and a iphone. if you recognize anything about the suspects police would like to hear from you. police are investigating a deadly shooting in philadelphia's strawberry mansion section, officers rush home on the 6,000 block of west oxford street just after 8:30 last night, that is where they found the 27 year-old victim shot multiple times in the home's basement. police tell us his family heard the gun shots. >> family members were upstairs on the first floor when they heard gunshots

coming from the basement. when they went downstairs to check on their family member, that is when they found him bleeding from the chest and torso and he was completely unresponsive. >> police rushed the victim to the hospital where he died so far but no arrests have been made. advocates for better protect bike lanes in philadelphia took to the streets of the center city, dozens assembled at 13th and pine to create a human chain to create the bike lane. they are spending federal money to make bike lanes safer residents say drivers and cyclist need to be more respectful of one another. >> very disrespectful, to pedestrians and bike riders, however, i feel as though, they do not respect the law. however, i feel as though, they do not respect the law. they cut (closed captioning is being provided as a public service by cn8.) in front off happens all the time. >> we need education on all side with what the laws and rights are. we need enforcement of the laws not just for cyclist who might be running a red light but forecaster, who are, you know, having unsafe behavior.

you have 60,000 somehow odd seats to clean off. >> yes. >> no task too big for eagles nation. >> things are heating up, katie. >> no kidding, very warm afternoon for standard of mid december, you know, you normally have 44 degrees. we were surpass ago this before the sun came up. a warm start to the afternoon. certainly we do expect to seer swing on the thermometer dropping off on the thermometer next couple days rebounding and then dropping off again all courtesy of frontal boundaries crossing through next couple of days. we will start off with a very quiet look here, overlooking from plymouth meeting, this is taken from high atop place one apartments off in the distance , yeah, we have a quiet beginning to the afternoon here rain, sunshine through the included and it looks like a nice afternoon a little bit on the breezy side and that is the story for rest of the afternoon in fact but no wet weather in sight at lee not right now and storm scan and a good reference point for that too. there is not much to see.

we have quiet weather for the rest of the day. is there another disturbance getting its act together across this area and working itself east, this has no impact on us whatsoever. however this section of the country will look more interesting on the radar in the days ahead and a lot of, some kind of travel plans have them coming up whether your loved won are going to you or you going to them, planes, trains, automobiles is there a new storm taking shape. i don't think it is much more than rain. we will get to that. let me show you these temperatures swings. notice color contours when we see bright shade of orange, red, lifting north you are warming up. there is a new cool front that is coming along in the upcoming weekend and that is where rain will come for for our area this weekend but we are very warm leading up to. that warm front lifts in friday, saturday and our temperatures will go on a serious uphill climb. it is also coming up on the first official day, of, the winter season, and that is march, by the winter solstice which will take place this

thursday morning, and, it is when northern hemisphere at its farthest point from the sun. you tend to see that really low sun angle. i have a house south facing so the sun in the morning just comes in blinding, and really have to shut the blind for it too to be even in the room but longer days start as of that point. you will start to gain a little bit of extra time on the day as we move through the rest of the winter here but december 21st at 11:28 to be exact we will start off here, that winter solstice and mark nine hours and 20 minutes. that is all worth of daylight. temperature change bringing you back here and now is noticeable. eleven solid degrees then were you this same time yesterday at high noon. a very mild beginning again to the afternoon as that translates one more time to the thermometer we are at 56, we will get another 2 degrees on that day time high but wind has absolutely picked up. you saw my hair on the sky deck. that is what that can do keep that in mine. just enough time to do it before i came back on the air with the full forecast.
