people out enjoying the scenery are doing what it takes. i'm jessica dean, ukee washington has the night off. we're in the midst of a deep freeze and windchills are making it more unbearable out there. we have live team three coverage of this bitter blast. alexandria hoff is out in the cold to find out how people are staying warm. with start with meteorologist chelseain gram >> these are the actual air temperature, 19 degrees in philadelphia. 16 in allentown. right around 5 in mount pocono p15 in reading, 15 in lancaster. we're dealing with a little bit in the way of winds, it takes a little bit to make it feel uncomfortable. feels like the single digits. like 8 in philadelphia, five in wilmington, feeling like 11 degrees below zero in mount pocono. it's only going to get worse as we head into the overnight hours

tonight. here's your forecast low temperatures for forecasting low temps in the single digits and teens region-wide, forecasting low right around 14 in philadelphia, but when you factor in the winds, it will feel colder. we're talking windchills near 0 as we approach tomorrow when you're waking up. we have more sub freezing temperatures, that equals out to a bitter cooled start. details coming up. this frigid weather during the holiday week is leaving people with a little bit of cabin fever. alexandria hoff is live in frankford square where she caught up with people who decided to brave the cold and get out of the house. alex? >> reporter: one woman put it to me, it was getting out of the house and out of the hold high bumper nation. she and many people came out to franklin square and get a look at the very frozen fountains.

it can stop a person in the tracks or prompt the body to keep moving. >> keep moving >> it's comfort dressing in lawyers, boy scouts. >> reporter: at franklin square, the electric cal current of ben franklin's kite wasn't enough to keep it from freezing. the water must stay on for the sake of the park. these ladies allowed me to warm up besides them. >> reporter: i might have have to turn occasionally. the lingering holiday spirit drew most of these people into the cold but for ella marcus and her mom from florida, this is her first venture outside since traveling for surgery at the children's hospital of philadelphia >> inside a hospital we figure why not. >> reporter: theories still a lot to see and do in the city

but if you do venture out, remember mom's advice >> layers, layers and double socks. >> reporter: when it's this cold and the temperatures are this low, your body is working hard to make sure that your core is warm, that's why your extremist bite. do it like that guy's mom said you have layers and have hands feet and ears covered. alexandria hoff cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> thank you. nearly 60 inches of snow already, people in erie pennsylvania are bracing for more, a record 53 inches fell in less than 36 hours and it keeps coming, a snow emergency remains in effect. some people are taking it all in stride >> we haven't had a winter like this since we were kids. we haven't got to our backyard

yet. >> for other, that snow has created travel nightmares, officials are urging residents to stay home. we have breaking news now, "eyewitness news" in philadelphia's germantown neighborhood where a philadelphia police officer has shot a suspect be. we're told that suspect is in critical condition. before the shooting several blocks away at 16th and ned dray. police say the suspect ran down a different police cruiser. the officer is hospitalized. it started when police pulled over the vehicle. we're told it was in connection with a homicide. we'll continue to follow the story. new, firefighters in princeton dealt with the bitter cold as they dealt with a fire around 9:00 at the complex. it took crews about an hour to bring it under control. no word on injuries or a cause.

police in phoenixville are investigating a shooting that sent a 9th grader to the hospital at a parking lot of the duncan donuts around 7:00 tonight. that victim was rushed to phoenixville hospital and is in serious condition. officials say the school will be open tomorrow as a place for students and staff to come together. an autopsy will be done on an 11-year-old girl who died at a sleep ovein northeast philadelphia. police say aightmare found the unresponsive girl this morning in the home of the 9200 blockf angus place, transported to are re-torresdale where she was pronounced dead. police tell "eyewitness news" the girl was sleeping at a friend's house two doors down from her home >> it was a concern right away. we're taking all the investigative steps. you'll see the crime scene units be we just had a k9, to not

eliminate any possibility and we're looking to find out what happened. >> that being said, police say there is no occasion of foul play. a new lead in the search for a hit-and-run driver who police say killed a pedestrian in wynnfield last night. this morning, police recovered what appeared to be the vehicle that struck 58-year-old anthony rogers, this alexis was found on 19th in logan seconds of the city, police say someone tried to set the car on fire. "eyewitness news" spoke to the couple who called 911 last night. >> i just proceeded to pray over him and pray for his spirit and pray that it's god's will if he leaves here tonight that jesus receive this. >> this is surveillance video. police say rogers had just exited a septa bus at 54th and was attempting cross city avenue. if you have information, you are asked to call police. president trump surfaces at a photo opt in florida.

but analysts say that is unlikely >> his promises will ring hollow given there isn't a republican coalition that exists that wants to expand health insurance. >> reporter: they will face a number of issues ranging from the budget to immigration. cbs3 "eyewitness news." new jersey's govern chris christie sign executive order for 2018, new jersey residents would like to pay the property taxes before a $10,000 cap on state and local tax deductions goes into effect. that provision is part of the tax reform law signed by president trump this month. new jersey has the highest property taxes in the nation five juveniles are under arrest at the cherry hill mail. police arrived on scene and found approximately 700 to 1,000 unaccompanied minors. the five arrests occurred as

winter weather advisory has b n beenished. you have jim thorpe included as we head to the overnight hours. the windchill values anywhere from ten to a full 20 degrees below zero. here's something to pan out as we move into thursday, notice by tomorrow morning, some windchill readings will be near zero, if not at zero. reading, allentown, right around 3 as you're waking up in philadelphia, it doesn't get much better to the noon hour, windchill around 8 in philly. and we won't get much in the way of improvement in there's. when you have temperatures this cold, any time you get moisture it will fall in the form of snow. we stay dry through friday, then monitoring a system that will bring it to saturday maybe a coating to one or two inches, behind the system even colder cold if you will, new year's eve by midnight, as we're ringing in
