we are in the teens right now on the cbs-3 sky deck. we are finding swimming lar temperatures across the delaware valley. we will show you those, 19 in center city. seventeen in wilmington. in the poconos we are in the single digit around 16 in allentown. we are in the up are teens to right around 20 degrees down the shore. looking at the winds anywhere from five to 15 miles an hour, when you look across the entire region coming from the northwest at nine in philadelphia. that is yielding a wind chill feels like temperature, in the single digits. it feels more like 8 degrees in philadelphia. six in allentown. fourteen in reading. feels more like 14 below zero in the poconos. that is where we have a wind chill advisory that remains in effect until 1:00 o'clock tonight for wind chills from zero to 15 below in those locations, like mount pocono as well as jim thorpe. we are not going to see much in the way of improvement, as we head in the evening hours tonight, but we're at 15

degrees by 9:00 o'clock with that bitter cold, bundle up at 11:00 temperatures dropping to 13. it will feel like the single digits once again tonight. i will have more in the full forecast but for now back to you. >> chelsea, thank you. while we think we have it bad imagine how philadelphians felt 200 years ago during the coldest winters. "eyewitness news" reporter david spunt has historical perspective as he joins us live from franklin square in center city with more on that. david. >> reporter: big light show going on right now. people outside. it doesn't seem to bother them single digit wind chills going on right now. i have to tell you it made me think about going back in time and thinking about these cold winters during the revolutionary war. it feels like the single digits in philadelphia, and it is not letting up. >> ♪ >> these are the faces of the american revolution, images of men and women who lived during the brutal winters of the late

1770's, in pennsylvania, new jersey, and delaware. >> the period of the american revolutionary war right at the tail end of what was called little ice age. >> reporter: tyler putman is gallery education manager at museum of american revolution. he said if you think you are cold look back 240 years for for some perspective. >> living in small wooden huts heated by a fireplace and they are wearing one or to layers of wool clothing. >> reporter: kid from across the country joined parents to check out the museum's and learn more about some of the coldest winters. this winter in 2017/18 is setting up to be a cold one. 250 hours of consecutive temperatures, below freezing, until after the new year. >> but it is freezing today. we're very cold. >> reporter: but not everyone minds. >> just warmly get out here and our hope would be less people here, at the tourist places we were going to today. >> reporter: the museum was packed as people learned what it was like to experience a winter without our modern

eagles with the walk through at novacare complex getting ready for the final game of the season begins cowboys. for last two games all eyes have been on eagles quarterback nick foles since carson wentz went down fans in the football world have kept a close eye on nick. he was great against giants. could have been bet's begins raiders. foles says a bad game is an opportunity to improve. >> it is like anything, football is a crazy sport. you have really good game, you have good games and game that is in the so good. no matter what happens you have to treat everything, you know, critically in the sense of there is always corrections some games is there more corrections then others. this game there was a lot more corrections but that is a learning opportunity to grow as a player and that excites me. that excites a lot have players where you don't want that to happen every week but there are things that are correctable that i'm learning from. >> well, coming up later in sports we will hear more from nick and how long he is expect to go play in that game. it is a big night in

"eyewitness news" reporter in a cash brown has more from phoenixville area high school where that teen was a freshman >> i just went numb, i didn't want to believe it, i still don't but you have to like accept it. >> reporter: young students at phoenixville area high school learning how to embrace the death of the classmate far too early in life. lea fine and her stepsister skylar smith have fond mom wrist of their friend jason ortiz cameron. >> he was never boring. he was a good rapper. >> reporter: fifteen year-old freshman was gunned down in the backpackerring lot of the

dunkin' donuts at 218 nutt road just after 7:00 p.m. on wednesday. police are ruling the shooting a drug-related homicide saying that the victim and other people planned to commit a robbery in the middle of a marijuana deal. investigators say victim, driver, passenger in in black car caught on video got in an argument, at lee two other people were also in the car, one of them fired the deadly shot before taking off. >> he was just there and like now he was gone. i was just talking to him. >> reporter: phoenixville area school district opened up during the holiday break allowing students to seek comfort with grief counselors. >> every life matters, every kid matters, and it is just not about the life that has been lost but about the lives that are still here and helping to work to make them feel safe, secure, understand so that they can grow. >> reporter: while fellow students grieved the chester county district attorney has harsh word for those suspects still on the loose. d.a. hogan saying quote suspects were engaged with the victim over a petty drug deal,

now a young man is dead, and the suspects are fugitives knowing that one of them is a killer, all of this violence triggered by a little bit of weed and greed, it is senseless. school officials will be holding a day of healing on tuesday, january 2nd, when the kid do return to school. grief counselors will be on hand, that day, as well. in phoenixville, natasha brown for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". police say that there will not be a criminal investigation into the death of an 11 year-old girl no northeast philadelphia the child was found unresponsive yesterday morning after a sleep over at a neighbor's house in the 9200 block of angus place. an autopsy revealed that the girl died of natural causes. authorities say that there is in sign of trauma on the child or any indication of foul play we are learning new information bay deadly police involved shooting in germantown. it happened last night on the 1900 block of west nedro avenue. police say a plainclothes officer was hit trying to pull over a car linked to last week

's deadly shooting in kensington. the driver identified as 25 year-old dennis plowden later crashed into two parked cars. police say when they arrived you mr.den was already out of the car and allegedly refused to comply with an officer's order. >> after repeated command by the plainclothes officer to show his hands, he makes an abrupt movement and then officer fires one shot, striking the male in the head. >> you mr.den died this morning at einstein medical center. police say they did not find a weapon on his body or in his car. the officer who was hit was treated and released woman inside the car was crashed and also treated for minor injuries. a shuttered kensington church goes up in flames leaving 19 people who used that building as a shelter home less. fire fighters battled the two alarm fire in the bitter cold overnight, at the former assession of our lord catholic church on east cornwall street

two homes next door to the church were evacuated but no one was hurt and the cause remains under investigation. atlantic city mayor don guardian left office next month. guardian was not reelect in november to another term. "eyewitness news" was there today as some gathered to wish the republican well in his next chapter. >> it has been a wonderful ride. it is the most difficult job i have ever had. it is the most fun i have ever had, for the last four years. >> after leaving office next month, guardian will become business administrators for toms river. the new year will bring a new toll increase on the pennsylvania turnpike. beginning january 7th, the most common toll for e-z pass users will go up from 1.23 to 1.30 while price for cash pairs will go from 195 to 210. commission officials say increase is needed to improve its 550-mile toll road system. this is by the way the tenth straight year of price hikes.

back on "eyewitness news" this cold weather ace pain for some but great for ski resorts. a live look at jack frost/big boulder as snow makers churn out fresh snow. meteorologist chelsea ingram joins us with a few minutes on more on our chances of getting natural snow in the forecast. meantime chopper three over a rescue off icy shores of hawk island in delanco, burlington county. authorities say a man got stuck on the island around 7:00 this morning. he somehow twisted his ankle and was not able to move. rescue crews sent a boat to take him back to dry land to receive his treatment for his injuries. chilly temperatures aren't stopping philly's annual mummers parade, for now.

>> mayor's office says it is monitoring weather conditions, in the parade that will go on as scheduled on new years day. meantime tonight performers put on a preview of the famed parade at sophietell philadelphia several mens of the pence port string band played there and taught guests the mummers strut. this while concerns over cold weather remain in the back of their minds. >> code blue right now, but we are taking people off the street and if that is still the situation come new years day put a bunch of people on the street, i don't think that is a real good call is my opinion. >> nicholas says parade officials are expected to make a decision on the parade's fate on saturday. at lee, these frigid temperatures can be dangerous not only for you but your pets if precautions are not taken to keep them warm when they go outside. >> john mcdevitt from kyw news radio shows us thousand protect your pets and what can be done if you suspect someone else's dog is in danger. >> reporter: not only are their pets up for adoption at pennsylvania spca there is a

wellness center too where vets like doctor megan wilson will take care of your pet. shy says cold weather can be life threatening. >> we do see animals with hypotheria and they need to be treated for. that they need iv fraud to re hydrate them, warm bedding, because they can go into shock from hypotheria so it is a medical emergency. >> a dog could die. >> yes, very much like people. >> reporter: vets recommend limiting walks in the cold weather, dressing dogs in coats and if they can stand them, beauties. >> okay, we will get that out. >> reporter: darryl bailey of west oak lane keeps his two month-old pup moya warm and busy. >> do you like this one. >> yes, because it is stylish, you know what i mean, she has a dog bone on the back deck and it is reversible. she wears it inside as well. >> reporter: experts say bundle your dog up during this extreme cold and limit play time. come on, come on, kick.

the week is setting up a very chilly start to 218 heading our way plus we are talking about a chance for snow in the forecast. let me take you to a live look at the city courtesy of our live neighborhood network cameras looking at the city across the river from palmyra cove nature park in new jersey and a very clear view of the sky line, courtesy of this, brutal chill, that is surrounding us tonight. it will continue to surround us as we head in the overnight hours and then also tomorrow. we will start off the day with temperatures in the teens. our low temperature right around 14 degrees. we only made it in the lower 20's for our high, that is 20 degrees below average, for this time of the year, and it is not even as cold as it is going to get, the coldest air of this stretch is arriving later on as we head into new years eve and new years day. we have dry scan on storm scan three dealing with mostly clear skies, right now, temperature of 19, in philadelphia. nineteen in wilmington.

we have 14 in reading. sixteen in allentown. we are in the single digits in the poconos. up there in the poconos where we have a wind chill advisory still in effect and i will show you why a moment. in effect until 1:00 a.m. tonight, wind at 9 miles an hour out of the west and northwest in philadelphia 7 miles an hour in allentown. wind subsided a little bit but wind chills are still in the single digits. it takes a little bit of win. feels more like eight in philadelphia. six in allentown. right now in the poconos it feels about 14 degrees, below zero. but i can find areas where it feels even worse. that is bismarck where it feels like 17 below. opinion peg around 27 -- winnipeg is what it feels like when we factor in the wind chill. we will rotate down some of this chilly eras we head into the next several days. we have continuing days of temperatures below freezing. we're frigid with increasing cloud as we head in the overnight hours tonight, low temperature right around 12 degrees. it will feel in the single

digits. tomorrow a little bit by way of improvement as far as that wind chill and instead of the feeling like single digits it will feel more like the teens so dress for that as we head into tomorrow afternoon even though mercury will make to it right around 27 degrees. we will have some cloud, as we start off the day on friday but know this as we head into friday afternoon that will turn into a little bit of sunshine before sunsets. maybe a snow shower up in the poconos. we will stay dry in philadelphia and then we will head into saturday a clipper system heading our way, bringing us light snow by saturday morning, over spread the entire region and get out of here by four or 5:00 in the afternoon and then brutal chill will set in behind. that as far as snowfall amounts we are thinking anywhere from a coat to go 2 inches, some very reasonable and similar numbers here by way of our computer models, and anything that does fall though is going to stick. keep that in mind. you have green light for holiday travel to and from your destination heading in to

tonight and friday but that changes saturday paw we will have potential for slippery road out there with that snow easily sticking to the pavement. heading in to new years eve temperatures will be in the teens as clock strikes midnight, 12 degrees but feel close to zero, as we ring in the new year. you're witness weather seven day forecast looks like this, 29 degrees as we head into saturday but chance for light snow, coat to go 2 inches, most likely scenario, will cause slick road, heading in to sunday 23 for that high temperature, very cold game, feeling like single digits going to the game. twenty-eight on tuesday. we are monitoring potential for coastal storm arriving as we head into late wednesday and late thursday so we are keeping an eye on. that we have more chances for snow in the seven day forecast >> stay bundle up. >> yes. >> ouch. >> yes, can't wait. >> yes. >> but you need to layer,

eagles are going to the playoffs. we know tickets for eagles divisional round playoff game will go on sale thursday january 4th at 10:00 a.m. but what we don't know is how much our starters like nick foles going to play. preseason game where only starters take a few snaps in the first half or some may say the team could play whole game nick foles talk about that today. >> i am preparing to play the whole game. that is my mind set. we are playing the dallas cowboys. i'm not thinking anything other than, my own preparation during the week and getting ready to play dallas cowboys. penn state plays in the fiesta bowl this weekend and most penn state fans are
