right now at noon it is so cold, it hurts, and it is only going to get worse, hats, gloves, scarves, it doesn't matter how much protection you put on there is no escaping the conditions we have seen in a long time. a cooper river park the bone chilling temperatures did not scare away these joggers but exercising outside, may be even more difficult, come tomorrow, when our wintry weather delivers a 1/2 punch, bitter cold and snow. take a look penndot crews out getting ready for snow,

, as we speak, jan. >> katie, thank you. to strut or not to strut this bitter blast we're experiencing, could freeze out philadelphia's mummers parade on new years day. right now the show is scheduled to go on as planned but not everyone thinks that is the best idea. >> i mean we're in a code blue right now where we're taking people off of the street, and if that is still the situation , come new years day, put a bunch of people on the street, i don't think that is a real good call. that is just my opinion. >> city says it will continue to monitor the weather and decide sometime on saturday whether to postpone the parade to next weekend. and the snow that fell in erie, pennsylvania is causing potential problems for homeowners. look at all of that snow, 65 inches in fact, fell over the last few days. residents say they are worried that the heavy snow could cause roof toss collapse or cause water leaks inside their homes when the snow starts to melt. local hardware stores have run out of supplies for clearing the snow. more than half of the

country is caught in the grip of this dangerously cold weather. in chicago, illinois at least two deaths have being blamed on the freezing temperatures. at the city's midway airport it ties cold to fly. more than 80 flights were cancelled yesterday, and nearly 250 were delayed. >> it was like really hectic and a whole lot of people here >> it remains a serious, potentially life threatening event. >> in new hampshire, boiling water inntently froze due to a record temperature of negative 34 degrees, and just like here , in philadelphia, water fountains in new york city are now ice. breaking news now, chopper three is live over a two alarm house fire in west philadelphia. this is happening on the 4900 block of chestnut street, where fire fighters were called to the scene just about 30 minutes ago now, and as you can see they continue to work in these very cold conditions, to get that fire under control , and no injuries have been reported at this time.

well, this noon we are hearing radio calls between first responders as they arrived on the scene of the deadly apartment fire in the bronx, last night. >> people trapped, we have a baby in there. also, apartment six people trapped. >> twelve people were killed in the fire including four children, and investigators say they know how the blaze started and why it spread so quickly. correspondent laura podesta is in the bronx with the very latest. investigators believe a child paying with a stove caused the fast moving fire that broke out just before 7:00 thursday night killing 12 people and sending four others to the hospital in critical condition. >> a young boy three and a half years old playing with the burners on the stove, the fire got started, the mother was not aware of it, was alerted by the young man screaming. she exited her apartment with these, her two-year old and three-year old and left the door opened. >> reporter: fire crew is a arrived on the scene three minutes after the first 911

call. this building residents say relied on his faith while he waited on his third floor fire es scape. >> unaudible. >> reporter: fire officials say building had at least six opened building code violations including a broken smoke detector on the first floor where the fire started. survivors were forced in the bitter cold with no warning. >> it was like freezing, so it was worse for people who weren't ready and dress add pope eighthly with no shoes or any of that. >> reporter: red cross respond ed with blankets and moved survivors to a their by school. the marries calling the fire the war fire tragedy the city has scene in at lee a quarter century. the laura podesta for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". back here at home now four people, including a fire fighter are recovering from minor injuries, after a two alarm house fire in south jersey overnight.

"eyewitness news" reporter trang do has more on how, crew s rescued family members from their burning home. two people climbed out of windows on to rooftops after their delanco township home caught fire, just after 1:00 a.m. police, fire, neighbor joined forces to get them down. >> we used round ladders, and they were luckily able to get off, they were still coherent and everything else. >> reporter: third person made it out of the house on the 600 block of union avenue. paramedics took all three residents a father, mother and adult daughter to a local hospital with non-life threatening injuries. delanco fire chief todd johnson says that the fire was fast moving and very difficult to fight. >> it took almost two hours to get it under control. it is construction which means there is no firewalls in between so it took us a while. we were chasing the fire in the walls. >> reporter: making matters worse was bitter cold. temperatures in the teens quickly froze, water on the ground, and making for icy,

other dot crews are preparing roadways pretty well right now still bitter on sunday but brightens up so back the two green light there. how much snow are we talking about here? generally looking at coating to 2 inches, we can handle that. this snow is light, fluffy and accumulates easily because it is so light and fluffy. we have snow ratio, more pronounced as a result, stack up more quickly. you could see up to 3 inches as far north as poconos and lehigh north hampton county but you are pushing into pocono territory if you see that kind of a accumulation. but the ski resorts are loving this, i mean even since last time i updated this graphic about a week ago, so many more trails are open. jack from his big boulder, 17 trails opened specifically at jack frost, 32 new at blue hundred tane and we have a good several foot worth of a base of snow pack right now at these resorts. i always i'm in the a skier

personally but colder it is better ski conditions tend to be. we will look out over another part of the peck necessary in wayne county overlooking homes dale in the letter valley you can see flurries flying around. not going to actually end up with any accumulation out of these very light snow flakes but certainly is adding to the wintry atmosphere. traveling northeast extension to get up to do those skiing this weekend you better have that ski mask ready because it will be frigid especially sunday and with that light snow coming down tomorrow. lets talk about new years and put this in perspective. when we are ringing in the new year at midnight it will be around 11 degrees give or take i have a feeling that value may be adjusted but went veer too far from it. wind chill from zero to as low as five below zero. you really need to have a plan for how you will prior to be out in this watching fire works or do anything outside or just doing a puw crawl with
