and the even colder were r to follow >> it's hard to believe all week we've spent sub freeze, high temperature 25 degrees. we started off at 13 this morning, our normal high temperature 41 degrees. nowhere near that and no time soon, are we going to be feeling 40's of temperatures in the teens, 19 in philly, 15 in trenton be 14 degrees in allentown, it's 2 in mount pocono. feels like temperatures we have a little bit of a light wind be windchill temperatures not too impactful but the feels like temperatures drop down low feeling like 12 in millville. stormscan 3 showing us quiet conditions, clouds starting to increase, we do have snow making its way into portions of western penses in association with a clipper system that will be impacting us as we head into the day tomorrow, so clipper systems know to be fast moving, they won't have a done of moisture but will give us a quick hit of accumulating snowfall likely

steady snow overticking the area boy about 8:00, 9:00 in the morning, maybe earlier some models indicate, steady in nature and then that steady snow starting to wrap up by about 2:00 in the afternoon, we still could see lingers snow showers as we head into the second half of the afternoon. and early evening hours that, of course, will yield poor driving conditions. especially during a duration when the snow is falling, we'll talk about a how a snowfall to expect as far as accumulations and potentially our coldest new year's day in 100 years. and i'll have all details coming up on your full "eyewitness news" in a few. >> we will see soon. penndot says it's ready for the snow. salt trucks standing by and roads have been brined. alexandria hoff is live tonight on a frigid ben franklin parkway. >> reporter: let me tell you something if i could be wearing a ski mask right now, i would be. but i'm not quite sure how well that could go over. even given this cold, as you mentioned road crews have been

year's day. officials say a three-year-old boy was playing with a kitchen stove burner accidently started a fire that killed 12 in the bronx. it's considered new york city's deadliest fire in decades. four others remain in the hospital in critical condition, fire officials say the toddler's mother grabbed her children and ran out when she saw the flames but made a fateful mistake when she left the door open >> we acted like a chimney. it took the fire so quickly upstairs that people had very little time to react. they couldn't get back down the stairs, those that tried a few of them perished. >> according to city records, the apartment building has a number of open safety violations including a defective smoke detector. the fire department is investigating whether it played

aa role. chopper 3 over the 4900 block of chestnut street, crews were called to the scene around 11:30 this morning. authorities say one of the two firefighters taken to the hospital suffered minor injuries. there's no word on what sparked t fire. officials in burlington county are investigating what sparked a house fire that injured four people including a firefighter. the two alarm fire destroyed this home on the 600 block of union avenue in delanco. we're told a family of three and the injured firefighter were taken to a local hospital with nonlife-threatening injuries. officials say four pets died in the fire. and one is missing. philadelphia will finish 2017 with more homicides than the city has had since 2012. as of yesterday, 314 people have been killed in philadelphia in 2017. that's a 13% increase over this time last year and the highest number since 331 killings were

recorded back in 2012 it's down slightly 4 and a half % but the number of people that have died as a result of shootings has increased. that's peculiar. normally the number rises and falls the same way. he said the opioid crisis has contributed to the increase in killings. the clock is ticking. if you want to prepay your property taxes for next 84, the haddonfield tax collector's office in new jersey was packed with people looking to do just that. some homeowners were trying to take advantage of a federal deduction that will be scaled back when president trump's new tax law goes into effect next year. that law puts a $10,000 limit on the amount of state and local taxes people can deduct. >> what a lot of folks are trying to do is prepay taxes next year with the hope that they will get a bitter cold deduction on their 2017 return. if they itemize since there is not a cap on the 2017 tax >> some towns are accepting in

breeze, northwesterly winds around three miles per hour, we don't have a windchill right now, something to celebrate. two above in mount pocono, and this cold arctic air plunged so far south it's 41 atypically cold in atlanta, 34 in birmingham, 30 in charleston, the cold air plunged into the portions of florida, we're getting a break from that breeze, wind speeds right now, calm to light, so we like that but unfortunately we have several blustery days in the coming forecast, and not getting a break from the breeze in the upper midwest, in portions of canada check this out. windchill temperatures to near 50 below. at those levels frost bite sets in in matter of minutes. we'll be dealing with sub freeze windchills and you'll have to bundle up appropriating, fireworks at around midnight on new year's eve bringing in the

new year, temperature 13 but with the breeds out of the northwest. windchill temperature around 2 below in center city's for the new year's day we could have the second coldest on record, our coldest every 16 degrees in 1918, forecast who, 18, coldest in 100 year, and it's so rare, we only had 12 in philadelphia since the temperatures have been sub 30 let alone sub 20, it's going to be extremely cold and that's an overall trend, increasing clouds 18 degrees and we'll start snow in the forecast, light in intensity 28 degrees, but could make for treacherous travel conditions right around midday. stormscan 3 showing us quiet for now, increasing clouds here's our area of snowfall. starting to expand a little bit as it continues to move eastbound in association with had clipper system. timing looks like the city snow will start to spread out across

much of the area by about 8:00. this particular model bringing in a little earlier could arrive as late as 8:00, 9:00 in the morning, and we'll see the steady snow falling around 10:00, 11:00, early afternoon snow coming down is starting to taper off in berks county and tapering for everyone, the steady know 2:00 p.m. and we still could see scattered snow showers on the back side much more spotty in nature as we head into the late afternoon and early evening hours before we wrap everything up by mid evening. future snowfall totals one particular model looking good, models pretty good agreement right now sticking about one be two, three inches potentially. it will be easy to get away. because it will be that furnishier nature. it's not going to be the heavy thick snow. travel for tonight, very cold, staying dry tomorrow, could be impassable and philadelphia international airport could see delays and
