in chester county. that's where the snow fell gracefully onto these -- onto these every greens. some parts of the county saw 3-inches of snow. and now in hatboro montgomery county nearly 4-inches of snow fell there this morning make, roadways slick with slush. many woke up to a fresh coating of snow. good evening everyone, i'm natasha brown. thank you so much for joining us. we are talking about the snow that blew through our area just a day before folks are gearing up for their big new year's eve festivities. several inches were dumped all across the region and it looks like new year's eve is going to feel a lot more frigid. meteorologist lauren casey bringing her in now to talk about this holiday forecast. lauren. >> yeah, it's going to be bitter brutal cold as if it isn't bitter enough already. >> more so. >> then we threw snow in the forecast and the coldest air hasn't arrived yet of this extended cold snap but today the story was that snowfall. general amounts about one to three and a half inches.

an outliar in atlantic city picking up four and a half inches. levittown three and a half, king of prussia same there, wayne delco picking up over 3-inches of snow. philadelphia our total at the philadelphia international airport little less than an inch. once we get that fresh update i think that will be bumped up a bit. 3-inches in northeast philly. stormstorm scan3 much quiet your but spotty snow showers making for slick conditions. in atlantic city you may see a couple more flakes headed your way with flakes in and around the egg harbor area, also across portions of delaware seeing this snow shower working through past through dover now moving down towards riverview. what to expect as we head into the evening hours? well, very spotty snow showers could pick up a quick additional dusting in some locations but it really wraps up over the next couple hours. tonight breezy at times feeling like single digits but we have some subzero wind chills in store. we'll talk about that plus our coldest new year's day in 100 years. that's coming up in your full

forecast in just a few natasha. >> all right, lauren. thanks so much. enough snow fell to create serious problems on the roads. drivers were brought to a.m. complete stop for a 20 car pileup on the schuylkill expressway this morning. "eyewitness news" reporter chante lan caught up with the drivers. >> reporter: drivers have to be careful on the road as there have been multiple accidents across the area. >> i have been trying to get to work since 8 o'clock. >> reporter: frustrated drivers crawl along the schuylkill expressway after a 20 vehicle crash in the westbound lane near the gladwyne exit. >> fairly cold temperatures, whatever fell from the sky stuck to the roadway right away so our crews were out first thing this morning treating the highways in the region kind of getting materials down, kind of help the first effects but as we expected the first flakes fell to the ground and stuck immediately. >> reporter: at least one person was taken to the hospital in critical condition. many drivers had no idea.

>> that's really awful. >> yeah. >> i can't believe that. >> i'm really praying for them. that's crazy. >> reporter: traffic was backed up on i-76 for miles. >> how long have you guys been sitting in this. >> probably 30 minutes. >> yeah. >> 30 minutes. >> yeah. >> reporter: the length of time kept growing. the westbound lanes were shut down for three hours saturday. many like these vehicles driving the wrong way on the on-ramp chose not to wait. >> we can't stay much longer. friends and lauren and leland cut their plans to pay paintball short. >> saw one person crashed into the median and turned around on the highways. >> we didn't see it happened. we saw the aftermath. >> reporter: lea turner also had trouble driving. >> really slippery. the snow is just so powdery. it's like you kind of glide on it. >> it's also really cold so you got to slow down and use your instincts and any other drive so fast. >> reporter: be careful as the roads are very slick.

in center city, chantee lans. >> the mummers parade will go on as planned new year's day. the decision was made despite a bitter cold forecast. the heads of five divisions voted three to two today in favor of the mummers strutting their stuff down broad street as originally scheduled. stay with us everyone. still ahead on "eyewitness news" tonight another check of your new year's eve

>> all right, lauren has got that holiday forecast for us. it's going to be even colder, hm, lauren. >> yes, surprisingly so, just when you thought it couldn't get any colder it's going to. temperatures have been subfreezing since monday night and the streak continues today. high temperature only at 28 degrees. our normal 41.

we started the day off at 18 degrees and temperatures right now are cold. 12 in mount pocono, teens again in allentown, we're at 26 in philadelphia, 26 in wilmington and we have that feels-like temperature feeling more like 15, feeling like nine in allentown, feeling like two below in mount pocono. 'cause we have a breeze out of the west-northwest that is starting to kick up now about 15 miles per hour in philadelphia and overnight tonight it will be breezy at times so get ready for those bitter cold wind chills. storm scan3 showing us quieter conditions but still some spotty snow showers. best chance is going to be up towards the poconos. we could see briefly reduced visibility with some of those snow showers working in over the next couple hours but that will turn off really as we head into about the 9, 10 o'clock hour. overnight tonight partly cloudy, that frigid breeze, low temperature 16 degrees. and then for our sunday, even colder by about 5 degrees, a mix of sun and clouds, blustery with that northwesterly wind around 15. 23 degrees the high temperature but wind chills will be in the single digits through much of the day tomorrow.

and then you're going to need to bundle up big time if you're headed out on new year's eve. biting cold and a bitter breeze, the temperature right around midnight to ring in 201813 degrees in philadelphia, but with that wind chill component feeling more like two below and it is going to be one of the coldest new year's days in philadelphia ever. the coldest was 16 degrees back in 1918. our forecast high for monday, 19 degrees so, yeah, cold nest 100 years and this is rare cold. we've only had 12 new year's days where temperatures were sub 30 degrees let alone sub 20 degrees. for the mummers bundle up, 9:00 a.m. 11 degrees. by the lunch hour, 16 degrees so you'll need as many layers as you can get. 19 degrees the high temperature there to ring in 2018. 25 on tuesday. still breezy conditions by wednesday. less wind, temperatures bump up, try to make a run at the freezing mark, 31 degrees. not as harsh. but then right back down

again. the temperatures tumble. thursday we'll have a close call with a nor'easter so that's something we'll keep an eye on over the next couple days and then in the long range more 20's. >> oh, boy. thank you so much. i'm cold already. i can't seem to shake it. thank you lauren. >> lesley, eagles gearing up. >> i think i'm going to wear every single article of clothing to this game. the eagles take on the cowboys tomorrow. starters will be playing. doug pederson hasn't determined how long they'll be in the game. rookie sydney jones will see his first action of the season. second round pick washington missed the season with a torn achilles. he was rated the top cornerback before the injury. defensive coordinator jim schwartz thinks he's ready. >> mentally and technique-wise and things like that, he's trending the right way. i mean, but let's not mistake what we're doing for brain surgery or anything. i mean, you know, he's been
