forcing some u.s. cities to cancel their new years eve plans i'm laura podesta in times square where the ball drop will go on as planned but people need to bundle up. today is sunday december 31st happy new years eve. i'm jan carabao. lets get to this frigid forecast with meteorologist chelsea ingram g sunday morning. really what stinks about this forecast, unfortunately for you, hate to deliver this message but in relief in sight >> no. we have a slight warm up to 32 e will go right back down in the cold and we are dealing with the bitter cold as we head into new years eve and day, in fact, i should call it dangerous cold because that is , what it is, 14 degrees in philadelphia, goose egg up in the poconos right now, 11 in allentown, 14 in wilmington. right now checking in at 17 in dover and then factor in the winds and it feels much colder

degree in the poconos and down the shore we are checking in the mid to upper teens but with the wind it feels so much colder. we have winds coming out of the north and west from five to about 15 miles per hour, depending on where you live coming in right around 12, opposite northwest at philadelphia international and that is making it feel like this, zero, feels like 0 degrees in center city. feels like 1 degree below zero in allentown. seventeen below in the poconos five below in reading. two below in lancaster. that is what it feels like. as we head throughout the day today we are looking at high temperatures making tonight in the teens and 20's. high of 23. that is forecast high for philadelphia. then when we factor in the wind is it will feel so much colder in the afternoon. forecasting single digits as far as wind chills are concerned for the entire day. here's how it plays out at 12:00, seven, eight is what it will feel like at three. by 6:00. 1 degree as we head in the

9:00 o'clock hour. that is when a wind chill advisory goes into effect for the entire region. we will see wind chills from five above zero to 10 below zero depending where you live and how hard that wind is blowing. storm scan three right now shows us a dry picture dealing with cloud mixing with sunshine as we head into this afternoon but it will be a dry game for the bird, a cold game for bird, remember single digit wind chill dress in layers and keep moving while at the game. 21 degrees at kick off, 19 degrees fourth quarter and powe game bird will be fine with these temperatures but fans are really willing to have to make sure that they stay warm and protect themselves. happy new years midnight 2018, 12 degrees, that is the forecast temperature but wind chills will make it feel like 5 degrees below zero. bitter breeze. if you plan to be outside later tonight or this evening and even on new years day this is dangerous cold that we are dealing w catch frostbite
