"eyewitness news" in rittenhouse square where a new year, brought the same, bitter cold. good evening, i'm ukee washington. jessica's off tonight this winter weather will be here for a while as well. meteorologist lauren casey know all about that and she's on our sky deck right now with a lot current temperatures, lauren. >> thanks, ukee, i have been out here for three minutes now and i'm getting pretty miserable. it is, just so cold, and we know that is just as soon as you step outside just appear ing cold, new years day now the third coldest, on the record in philadelphia, dating back to the 1800's. check out our low temperatures this morning, 4b low, in mount pocono. langhorne, one below. zero in quakertown.

one in chad ford. same case in mays landing and philadelphia was 2 degrees shy off the record low temperatures at 6:00 this morning. we're at 18 right now in philadelphia. sixteen in trenton. 13 degrees right now in allentown. sixteen in ac. but what it feels like temperatures, sub zero in mount pocono, we're at two in allentown. feeling like one in lancaster. feeling like seven right now in philadelphia. and overnight tonight, and early tomorrow morning, a lot of us to have head back to work, after the long holiday weekend. it will be feeling like 10 to 15 below in the poconos, zero to 10 below in the lehigh valley, zero to five below in center city and suburbs. zero to five in southern delaware and coastal new jersey but this isn't even as coldest air of the season just yet, i will let you know whether that arrives and tracking a nor'easter in your full eyewitness weather forecast in just a few, ukee. >> come on in, thanks. frigid temperatures didn't slow down the strut for today 's mummers parade, the spec the spec particular california was almost postponed because of the weather but officials

"eyewitness news", reporter alycia nieves joins us from the pennsylvania conventioner where fancy brigades should be competing for top honors, alycia. >> reporter: i was hoping this group would be up but they just wrapped up, a big one getting ready to set up. fancy brigade are doing all this after being out in the cold most of the day along with the mummers like those in the string bands this group, they faced serious challenges to entertain their could crowd along the parade route bitter cold weather during this years mummers parade had many performers dancing. not just to entertain but to stay warm the freezing temperature had some mummers especially those who had to play instruments, worried, now about how the weather would affect their performing. >> we are all prepared for the war. it wasn't that bad. we thought it would be worse. >> reporter: wayne journey saw his fingertip would freeze

when he played banjo with the greater overbrook string band but he managed to hit, every note. >> pure adrenaline, just excitement. >> reporter: for other band though it wasn't as smooth sailing. >> it was pretty bad, horn players kept freezing up. >> reporter: fralinger string band had some of their instruments freeze just before their performance on broad and sansom street but were able to thaw them out in the nick of time. >> we got on our buses, warmed up the horns, came out tuned, and we rocked. >> reporter: rock they did as the end of their performance they had the whole crowd involved in the circle of parade goers, eventtained. >> that performance was so much fun to watch just like the one, fancy brigades is in here expect to go up until about 8:00 o'clock tonight and then at ward ceremony and after that, it is waiting on those january 1st until next year to do this whole thing

over again. reporting live, alycia nieves for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". golden slippers had foot warmers inside today that is for sure. a leash, thank you. frigid temperatures are something to contend with as crews deal with the water main break in the roxborough section. they say it was a 10-inch water main that ruptured on the 600 block of james town avenue tonight affect something businessness that area a small geyser sent a river of water flowing down james town highway. officials are investigat ing what sparked this house fire in abington township montgomery county. interest happened on the 2200 block of pleasant avenue just after 4:00 o'clock this afternoon. fire fighters were able to get the flames under control in about an hour, or so we're told and no one was hurt. i mean this whole camp play quarterback, i don't, i don't dislike nick fels but what you have seen out of him coming in the playoffs, right

resort town. three council at large members were also sworn in today. well, two families with ties to philadelphia were among the 12 people killed, on vacation, when their plane crashed in the mountains of costa reek a charter flight crashed yesterday while on its way from the beach town to the capitol of san jose. and one of the victims was william steinberg, a university of pennsylvania student, in the class of 2021. he was traveling with other members of the family who are from scarsdale, new york. >> they are great people, and the kid are great, i feel like , they are the family that right to to emulate. >> another family originally from montgomery county but most recently living in bellaire flashings were also among those killed. they were doctors, mitchell and leslie wife and their two children hanna and ari. national transportation safety board is assisting in the investigation. a 16 year-old boy is in police custody and facing murder charges for deadly

perfect weather to make snow up the mountains in the poconos this birth stretch is helping to pile up the powder, a live look from jack frost, big boulder, coming up in just a few minutes from the skis, and snow boards to the skates, and, we will have another check of your forecast with lauren. she's standing by. but first a crowd braved the cold in west chester to remember a young boy who died of cancer. they took to the streets for annual 5k walk/run benefiting the stanley's dream foundation , named after stanley edward a gifted student who dreamed to go to college. he died of brain cancer in 2002 at age 14. his mother and father kept his moth's live by raising money for cancer research and college scholarships. >> we just want to thank everyone who has come out
