jersey shore getting pounded by wind and snow i'm trang do live on the boardwalk with a look at the conditions. and a live look this morning at the road conditions , this is the mobile weather watcher driving along ben franklin bridge. and storm scan three shows nor'easter moving up the coast and through our region this powerful storm system still has several hours to go before it leaves our region. good morning i'm rahel solomon. aim jan carabao in for jim donovan. we have dozens of school closings and delays scrolling at the bottom of your screen, right now including all philadelphia public and archdiocese schools are closed today. >> lets get to the forecast
4:31 am
and katie fehlinger in the weather center with the very latest on this storm. >> big change from yesterday at this same time was that track shifted moved inland. we had a feeling this was a good possibility and it has now come to pass and that is why we have upped anti in a big way here. winter weather advisories, winter storm warnings and even blizzard warnings are posted, you will see war conditions, heaviest snow, strongest win, at the shore, that is the red alert in those counties that are shaded in the red here. sussex county right up new jersey shoreline where you'll get hit hardest and we will get to those current conditions right now. currently seeing sustain wind speed in the 20's in atlantic city, wildwood, up and down the shoreline. look at the convergens of the winds off shore there so there is just power with this storm system. but this is north and west winds are not quite as harsh but will notice a harsh wind chill as day goes on.
4:32 am
lets look at storm scan, the nor'easter wrapping itself up. we are on the northwest side with the cold air getting wrapped in witt. we had enough cold to bring this in, straight up snow since the beginning but now we are getting more chill, getting reenforced over the span of the entire day and that ends up allowing for a know dive by tomorrow. looking at the zoom here locally the heaviest snow band s are obvious darker shade of purple the heaviest, snow intensity. that is where we are mentioning dunn near the shore atlantic county, burlington, ocean counties. that is where sweet spot will end when it comes to snowfall totals. we had to double the spec tation here since yesterday, three to 6 inches is expectation along i-95. you can understand why they have decided to shut down schools. meanwhile in atlantic city darker shade of blue six to 10 t now, travel will not be easy.
4:33 am
it is not just the snow but the wind whipping, drifting, and blowing it around so that reduces your visibility in a huge way and we will be be stuck with this all day long. >> it is a licensing day for commuters, starting overnight and through afternoon like you were talking about and what we are seeing this morning already is some, very, slick conditions, which is already bringing up, some accidents for us, out there. so take it easy heading out the door this morning if you have to get out there and drive around. swede land road at route 23 we have an accident there. we have another accident here belmont avenue at rock hill road. we have another accident 202 northbound at route one baltimore pike head up, lots of flashing lights. when we have an accident spun out vehicle disabled vehicle something like that in these driving conditions, just make sure to take it very slow, and if you start to hydro plane if you start to slide, pump the brakes, don't slam because you
4:34 am
will go straightforward you have to pump those brakes. another accident here 202 northbound at route one baltimore pike. just a quick peak at blue route at ridge pike take a look at all this snow. when exhaust melts that snow or ice on the roadways it will refreeze right away giving us black ice. heading out the door this morning and jump on the freeway and interstates don't think even if there is salted necessarily you will in the get slick spots. take it easy here. closer to the city 95 south at cottman this is what we are looking at more on this in a little bit. jan, back over to you. as katie mentioned a blizzard warning in effect along jersey shore. >> "eyewitness news" reporter trang do is braving elements in atlantic city. it looks like it has pick up since the last time we saw you >> reporter: yes, it is definitely pick up, snow as well as win. we saw earlier in the live shot, from 4:00 o'clock it was light but things have pick up, it has been snowing on and off
4:35 am
here since about 9:00 p.m. last night. i wanted to show you how quickly conditions can change here. i'm on the atlantic city boardwalk and there have been snow plows back and forth through here all morning long. you can see look it is covered once again with the coating of snow, so things are really wrappedly changing here but take a look at some of the road conditions, what he drove on the atlantic city expressway to get down here and you can see that there is a layer have slush on the road as crews tried to keep up with this snowstorm. now also, in atlantic city we were driving around and we saw some cars get stuck in just a few inches of snow on the road s, even though roads had been plowed so conditions are just, changing, and rapidly deteriorating as time goes on. we caught up with workers at a casino making sure that the sidewalks, stairs were nice and clear for patrons. here's a look at what he had to say about the conditions
4:36 am
outside. >> the wind speed, coldness, it is sticking bad as you can see. >> reporter: we will give you a beauty shot here, very exciting to drive up and see the ferris wheel still on, and going, despite this storm. we're catching up with people driving around, walking around here in atlantic city. we talked to some drivers. we will have them in our next hour but for now we are live from the atlantic city boardwalk i'm trang do for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> if you can stay inside watch beautiful pictures like that that trang do is bringing us. and stay inside. we will see you soon. snow is also starting to pick up in delaware. >> lets check with "eyewitness news" reporter chantee lans live in new castle this morning. what is it doing out there chantee. >> reporter: hey rahel and jan , snow stopped and it is going but wind is making it
4:37 am
feel so cold. right now we have an inch of accumulation. kyle will come down here and show you how much is dunn here , we are by a wawa by route 13. we will show you what the road are looking like right now they are slick but there is no snow on the ground. that is an indication plows have been keeping them clear because this is a heavy traffic area to get too and from philadelphia. so drivers you will want to be careful give yourself plenty of time enough room on these roadways. i will swing it back around to show you at the gas station right here. people are out and about gas sing up ahead of this during the storm but beginning of the storm here there is a you mr. truck that has been going around all morning that i want to show you. i expect to that driver. he talked about the conditions in the only here but on the side road. >> slippery in some spots but on the main roads they do a good job at it, back road are
4:38 am
slippery. >> that guy i spoke with was pretty awesome. he said something interesting. called the snow storm out here , white gold, i have never heard that before but it is true for them it is a money making day. he will be on for five to six hours. that is most they can do, and then rest. then he will be right back on. that is very latest, chantee lans for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> ill with you wear those snow goggles, all morning because if so we will totally here for it. >> reporter: yes. >> why not, right. >> thank you. well, if you didn't listen to warnings last night to move your car off snow emergency route is it may be too late. >> pat gallen is live on south broad street where tow trucks are ready to relocate a lot of cars, good morning, pat. >> reporter: good morning. we are live on south broad street in south philadelphia, couple things i'm excited about this morning. one i get to work with the best photographer in the business tommy g, second thing
4:39 am
is sixers won i heard jell embiid played despite ming to go bed at 6:30, plus i'm excited about snow generally speaking but i know some people who might not be so excited about snow and they are park along snow emergency routes in philadelphia and that includes here along south broad street right now, i'm not excited for these people, they are going to be towed, ticketed which we have seen already this morning, snow emergency began at midnight, and will be in effect all day long. the city has enforced it which means all parked cars must be moved off of these routes for plowing and when moving your car the city asks that you please, please parkas far from the corner as possible because vehicles parked too close to the corner will obviously get in the way of plows which we will need today as they try to turn those corners. the information, maps, whole 9-t
4:40 am
philadelphia streets.com, so everybody wake up, and, jump on the bike if you need to but before you do that you have to get these cars out of those snow emergency routes because you will be ticketed and likely you will be towed later on. we are out here now, it has change, our first hit about a half an hour ago snow falling lighter, winds were not whipping as much but that has change over the pennsylvania 30 minutes as snow is coming down harder here in south philadelphia. jan and rahel, are you guys nice and toasty here. >> i dent want to brag but yes we feel for you, pat. listen to pat. if you do not move your car it is 51-dollar parking ticket and $76 fee. >> a bit pricey yes, unfortunate. there is much more to cover on cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> this is one impatient passenger who was so fed up on the delays he went out on the wing of the plane.
4:41 am
>> okay, okay. >> our snow coverage continues here on cbs-3 we are looking live from the local weather watcher again, this time driving along route 70 in cherry hill. not going to the mall but a shot of the road in our area, stay with us, katie has a check of the forecast and meisha has another check have the road in two minutes, we will be right back.
4:43 am
parts of new england people are bracing for more than a foot of powder, residents grabbed shovels, un loathed salt in the cars in today's expected blizzard. some say they are looking forward to a lazy day. >> i'm looking for 15. it is all right with me. i don't work. i will be on the inside looking out. >> more than two you this flights are cancelled, airlines like dealt, american allow pass evening tours re book ahead of the storm. >> we talked about that
4:44 am
yesterday. it looks like that came to fruition. >> such a big storm bearing down we have team three coverage. >> katie's tracking the storm but lets start with matt peterson for snow totals we are already seeing. hi there, matt. >> we are already getting those totals in south of philadelphia here to start out our thursday morning. so lets take a look where we have seen a little bit of this precipitation, really for most part it looks like it has been down in delaware and far southern new jersey, as far as snow totals. three and a half inches of snow in stockily, delaware. that was an hour and a half, two hours ago. we are seeing a little bit above that at this point. same for dagsboro just over three and a half inches of snow. it weren't surprise me if we are up over that 4-inch threshold already. as we get into new jersey out by atlantic city that is only place that is down into cape may county where we have started to see higher amounts
4:45 am
just shy of 3 inches here in eldora, probably getting above that. as we head down toward, ocean city, around mays landing, that is where we have seen 2 inches of snow. again, shore points, down into southern new jersey and delaware is where we have seen highest amount. down in bethenny beach two and a half inches for you, 2.7. we will see these continue to rise as we go through the afternoon. we could see that six to 10- inch range as we get down toward shore points later on today and for delaware as well >> this storm is definitely bearing down, as you mentioned , jump past that graphic take a look at storm scan showing a very potent nor'easter. you can see center of circulation very well define. we are on the northwest side where cold air is generated, where we will end up with as we mentioned six to 10 inches of snow at shore point where blizzard warnings are in effect. three to six into philadelphia
4:46 am
winter storm warnings, extended north and west. winter weather advisories far north and west. you get gipped out of this further are north and west you are but you will still get something. lets look at future weather as we progress here the bulk of the heavy stuff is confine, that is 7:00 a.m., confined to southern new jersey, and south delaware but you will be on a sharp cut off here to the west it is three to 6 inches in philadelphia, far lighter totals coating or so, further inland you go. looking for heavy snow, head east but would i advice you try not to travel today because with blizzard conditions like we are facing it doesn't have to be snowing for their to be major issues but true for shore where blizzard warning is posted. future wind gusts are impressive. they could peak in the 50's at height of the storm later this morning and that is going to cause extremely le visibility. also so harsh you do not want to be out in this.e an hour in e
4:47 am
computer modeling as late as 3:00 p.m. brunt of this is happening through the course of the early to midday and even into tomorrow those wind gusts remain very, very strong in the 30's. right through tomorrow, heck even into early saturday morning the wind is still whipping. that means your wind chills will be down right brutal in the upcoming weekend and beyond where they will be dropping down to 30 below zero near poconos into the next couple days. really harsh stuff. it is not just about snow, talking about major storms like this. you have to account for wind, you have to account for cold and a lot of that will be felt behind the storm. >> so very licensing day a lot of headaches for people. if you have to get out in your car today you will to have pack your patients and drive very, very slow. we are seeing accidents scattered throughout because of this snowstorm. take a look where our vehicle went off the road clover mill road at route 30 bypass
4:48 am
indication that it is very, very slippery around here. accident swede land road at route 23 at belmont avenue. and another red flag very slick around those conditions. 202 north bound at route one we saw this accident pulled off to the side. not only can we see all that snow but we are seeing that nice glare on the roadway letting you know it is either going to be melted which i highly doubt or it is going to be black ice which is why we are seeing these spin out crashes and accidents, start to hit the roadways. so what is happening is this exhaust will melt ice and then refreeze and then get black ice and cannot see it. just take it ease any those areas. speed restrictions on the ben franklin bridge, betsy ross commodore barry, down to 35, not to mention 495 in delaware , new jersey turnpike, garden state parkway. we will talk about it coming up in the next ten minutes. jan, back over to you. how about this a 57

for a mirror, what is this all about. >> reporter: that is right, i have to say this mirror, mirror on the wall amazon wants to sell a mirror to us all. company got a green light this week for a blended reality mirror the way it will work is mirror can superimpose virtual clothing on to our reflection in the glass. it can put new a virtual scene like a beach or restaurant to see how a outfit would work in that environment. >> up's intrigued dianne. >> i'm intrigued and a little, you know, a little skeved out about it. >> yes. >> i have an echo, i do have an echo, so i know amazon can hear everything that is going on but then, you know, you add this mirror to it, like, i don't know i'm with you but we have to embrace technology these days. >> beach scene right now on a day like this.
