this is cbs-3 "eyewitness news" this morning. there is a chill in the air to say the least, this is live look this morning at center city from our studios in spring garden. the wind is making it feel like sub zero out there. we will tell you if this harsh cold will stick around all weekends long. and in other parts of the northeast, people are getting ready for windchills as cold as 40 degrees below zero. how the colds is now affecting travel. and folks, we have a winner. there is a mega millions ticket out there worth at least $450 million today. we'll tell you where this ticket was sold. i'll tell you where it wasn't sold. right here. today is saturday, january 6, good morning, i'm jan carabeo. let's get right to the forecast. here's meteorologist, chelsey

ingram with eyewitness weather chelsey, we're both in at work and wasn't sold in fill. >> i not for us. we have the cold around, it will be very cold day, in fact , dangerously cold across the region, weaver chinned will advisories in effect and stay in effect until sunday at 10:00 a.m., then we will talk about that. let me start you off with a live look at rehoboth beach. show you the fresh snow pack there. on the boardwalk, from the other day. and the snow across the region really acting as refrigerator, along with the mostly clear skies, to a allow temperatures to drop into the single digits , below zero in the poconos, two below there, 9 degrees right now in philadelphia, seven in wilmington, eight in dover, and as if this isn't cold enough, it feels even colder when you factor in the wind. so, everybody this morning, starting out your day with sub zero windchills, feels more like ten below in philadelphia , seven below in wilmington, and right now in the poconos, actually feels like 23 degrees below zero.

as we head throughout the day, it is not going to get much better by the 9:00 hour, still feeling like 11 degrees below zero, by lunchtime, still feeling sub zero out there, 6 degrees below zero, 18 below in the poconos, not much bet into the afternoon and evening , some spots still feeling right around zero if not below zero, for instance, allentown, five below, and then that's going to continue as we head into saturday night , sunday morning, so here is a lock at the advisories in the teal color on the map, throws in effect until 10:00 a.m. sun day. actual windchill warnings in the poconos, carbon, monroe, as low as the feels like 25 below zero. now back to you. >> 5:02, are you seeking warmer climate? just try anchorage, alaska, 18 s actually warmer than right her in philadelphia. and that's without the windchill. chilling cold. anita, good morning. >> good morning, jan, bone shrill right. i'm wearing five layers and still feel this biting cold right now the city's code blue remains in effect, city officials are taking special measures to keep those without homes safe. in the city fairmount section specifically villanova student rent taking the lead to help those without homes. they are also working to open up text-friendly shelter, something that many are taking soleness in the bitter cold. >> what you want when you comb home, hot meal, decent place to lay your head. that's what she has given us. >> as these temperatures take a nosedive, parts of the schuylkill river have frozen over, there are some patches of ice along the schuylkill river, actually yesterday we saw some people walking their dogs on the ice, instead every along the schuylkill river as you can imagine. lisa dicioccio ponds ers are highly warning against. >> this for now live at city hall, anita oh, c cbs-3 "

eyewitness news." >> thank you. well, it is a tough job but the philadelphia streets department says it is making headway clearing all of the snow. friday was the second full day of snow removal operations. plows wade down with salt spent the day covering a lot on the ground there. there are still some unplowed residential shale streets, though, still some people tell "eyewitness news" there are happy with what they see. >> i think it is great. i'm very happy with it, you know, the day that it was falling, it was very hard getting up the hill. but once that snow stopped falling, they cleared everything up. >> now, if you live on an unplowed residential street, philadelphia wants to hear from, just call 311. it is a tougher clean up job at the jersey shore. people working to clear the streets there had to deal with high winds, which made the job even more difficult. on thursday, margate got 16 inches of snow, although some say it looks like they got whole lot more than that. >> that's because there is no place to put the snow.

so the winds piles it up. then we come down with our plows and push it to the side. basically just moving the same snow from place to place. until it gets warm enough to melt. >> now, the clean up will continue throughout the weekend with windchills that make it feel well below zero. it is not just the philadelphia region freezing and digging out, many more people in the northeast will experience windchills as low as 20, 40 degrees below zero, omar jimenez in virginia beach with the latest thon deep freeze there. >> as many across the northeast try to dig out after thursday's heavy snow and flooding, the winds was blowing, just blowing the storm it, the snow was going sideways. >> they need to get ready for a dangerously cold weekends ahead. >> it is just amazingly cold t goes through you. it just, this weather, just goes through you, amazing. >> millions will cbsphilly.com temperatures in the single digits and the winds will make it feel even colder as low as

20 to 40 degrees below zero in parts of the northeast. >> we're asking people other than going out to shovel, we're asking you to stay inside as much as possible. if you do go outside, make sure that you dress for the weather. >> and air travel continues to be a problem as thousands are forced to wait and see if their flight will be operating >> we're not sure ooh we're flying out of here any time soon. >> more than 1400 flights were canceled friday adding tore more than 4,000 cans he had the day before, as the arctic weather blankets the delaware valley, authorities are asking people just to stay inside in n'sync beach,. >> new this morning, gas leak briefly forced west philadelphia neighbors out of their homes. the call cable in just before 3:00 this morning to the 100 block of north hobart street in cobbs creek. septa sent buses so neighbors could warm up there. there are no reports of any injuries. pgw now working to fix the

leak, and neighbors are getting the okay to go back into their homes. sixers legend, julius erving, undergoing evaluation at a philadelphia hospital. dr. j got sick at last night's game against the detroit pistons, late last night, spokesman for his management team tweeted he is expected to be released after that evaluation. >> all right, folks, someone in florida, apparently has won last night's mega million drawing. only winkelsas ticket for the jackpot worth at lisa dicioccio $450 million. but just in case your ticket did match some of the numbers, maybe you won a smaller prize, here they are. the winning numbers are 28, 30 , 39, 59, 70 and the mega ball is ten. the jackpot for tuesday's drawing is now back to $40 million. even though the mega millions drawing didn't make you a mega millionaire, tonight's powerball jackpot might. it is now worth $570 million. that has alum sum value of

>> back now on "eyewitness news," a fire has guilts dollars the home of one of the women who accused former u.s. senate can't date roy moore of sexual misconduct. tina johnson's house caught fire tuesday morning, while the fire is under investigation as arson, authorities say they have a person of there. but investigators do not believe the fire has anything to do with johnson's allegations against moore. >> it is too incidental to me, but whatever they say, i'll go with you, but right now i'm just so devastated that i can't -- i'm devastated. >> no one was at home at the time of the fire. a go fund me page is now set to up rebuild johnson says home. so far it has raised more than $55,000. moore denies accusation action by johnson and the other women a new book on the trump white house is now the top seller on line and at book stores. the author of fire and fury

inside the trump white house went on tv to stand behind his work, president trump attacking the book, he says he did not authorize access to the white house that he never spoke to author michael wolf, and that the book is full of lies and misrepresentations. the president tried to stop the release of the book, his lawyer sent cease and desist letters to wolf and the book publisher threatened legal action. in response, publisher moved the book's release date from last week to yesterday, siting unprecedented demand. i absolutely spoke to the president, whether he realized it was an interview or not, i don't know, but it certainly was not off the record. >> regardless of whether or not there is a lawsuit, they should be concerned about peddling fake stories, they should be concerned about putting out information that's not true. >> fire and fury is number one on amazon's best seller's list , and on the barnes and noble website. this extreme cold being felt as far south as florida, many animals like sea turtles are not used to the low

temperatures, so now, there is an effort to save them from the cold. chelsey kushner report. >> as temperatures in southwest florida continue to drop below average, experts are scrambling to rescue stunned sea further. >> they get real lethargic and can move. >> the near freezing temperatures are putting a strain on sea life leaving turtles floating helplessly. the turtles are not used to this. and because the reptile, because cold blooded, their met metabolic demands is shutting down and getting little stranded and disoriented as a consequence. >> still the cold snap started wildlife officers rescued more than 230 turtles, they say their bod guess into survival mode and shutdown, boaters like mike white, are on the look-out. >> kind of crazy but i think it is just one of those things that mother nature does, it protects the animals, and as boaters we just need to be

hypervigilant. >> florida fish and wildlife released the warning to boaters to watch out for turtles floating on the water or washing up on shore, and also watch to man tees who huddle together. >> i'll stay away from places better knee power plants, that's where they'll form, more watt letter come out of, then obviously look for the more shallow water because the sun reflects off the bottom -- bottom. it warms up the water, and that's where the animals will be. >> that was chelsey kushner reporting. now the cold weather is also creating challenges here in the north. if you have had to shovel snow over the past pew days, you already know there is but this morning we're meeting a young boy who is taking advantage of the winter weather to make a little extra money. ten year old amin bran such warming hearts with just a shovel and some salt. the young entrepreneur is cashing in by helping neighbors dig out in west philadelphia. whether his mom posted about his shoveling operation on line, business certainly took off. they had to set a cap of 20

customers. >> the sidewalk, $5. the salt is $2. and in a simple way, just work hard. >> little boy wise beyond his years there, someone in chicago who also heard about a min's adventure, he offered to donate shoveling equipment. there is a way to look at a a silver lining every all of this snow and cold. >> and we could all use a lip help. >> well, check on neighbor ores during the colds snap we're dealing with the good news is air from above, and i'll show you in the seven day , first let me start you out with a live look at ocean city. you can see the snow, still there, on the boardwalk. a lot of snowy scenes across the tri-state area today. we could even deal with some blowing and drifting snow, especially, down the shore, as we head into tomorrow. so here's a look at what you can expected to. sub zero windchills on tap for pretty much everybody who

lives in delaware, or new jersey, or pennsylvania. dangerous cold on tap, blowing and drifting snow, will be a possibility, with winds gusting to 30, 35 miles per hour at times, out of the west and northwest today. so, as this is mainly going to be a problem for areas down the shore, where we received some of the higher snow totals , and high temperatures are only going to be in the teens today. now, let's talk current temps. right now, 9 degrees, in philadelphia, that snow pack, kind of acting as refrigerator @ cross the region, along with clear skies, temperatures huge , go right down. 8 degrees currently in wilmington, six in reading, six in lancaster, seven in allentown, 2 degrees below zero currently in the poconos. winds, told you, coming out of the west, this is sustained, so not even looking at gusts just yet. sustained around 20 miles per hour at phl. 12 miles per hour in wilmington. sixteen in allentown. seventeen in the poconos. you can find all of that in that windchill equation, and

this is what it actually feels like outside. dangerous cold, and dangerous windchills. feels like 10 degrees below zero in philadelphia. this is why we have a windchill advisory, and that remains in effect all the way through 10:00 sunday morning. eleven below in allentown, feels like 23 degrees below zero in the poconos, ten below reading, ten below in lancaster, down the shore, feeling like seven below in atlantic city, also, seven below in wildwood. so, through the of throughout the day today, we will continue to deal with sub-zero windchills. dangerous cold by 9:00 right around 10 degrees. and in center city. thirteen by noon. still feeling sub zero, as we head into the 3:00 hour, that bitter sunshine really kick being in, high temperature only around about 17 degrees and region wide looking at the high temps in the teens. thirteen is the forecast high in allentown, 14 in reading, of course, feeling much colder when you factor in the winds. forecasting high only around 3 , down the shore, 16, atlantic city, right around 19 degrees

for that forecast high temperature today, in wildwood , but those numbers really don't even matter, because when you factor in the winds it, just feels so much colder out there. storm scan3, painting very quiet picture. we have mostly clear skies. we're going to stay dry throughout the day today. also, into tonight. really throughout the rest of the weekends. then things kind of start to change monday, we will cover that, as well. frigid, dangerous windchills today. high temperature only around 17 degrees. and as we head into the overnight hours tonight, into sunday morning, i'm forecasting low temperature right around 1 degrees. if that verifies, that's going to break the current standing record low temperature tour of four that was set originally back in 2014. so, record low temperatures will be in jeopardy when we wake up tomorrow morning. but, there is some light on the horizon, warmer temperatures on the horizon, as well. by monday, finally making it above freezing, 44 tuesday, 39 on wednesday, so, calling it a slow warming trend.

>> good morning, it is saturday, january 6th, i'm jan carabeo, we sound like a broken record, it will be cold again today. meteorologist, chelsey ingram, here with the eyewitness weather forecast to bring us some good news, chelsey, please. >> the good news we will eventually make up it above 32 , friday. actually sooner than that. we will talk about winds. but let me start you out with a look at the live neighborhood net netanyahu work. temperatures single digits, in the kutztown area, kutztown area middle school, right around 3 degrees, currently, in milford, holland township elementary, around 5 degrees, and sinking spring there at wilson west middle school,

right around three, and then cape may courthouse, checking in, at 8 degrees, this hour, across the region, temperatures are in the single digits. pretty much everywhere with the exception of the poconos and wildwood. wildwood right now around 11. poconos, we are at two below. but it feels so much colder, so forget about those numbers, because this is what it feels like when you factor in the winds. feels more like 10 degrees below zero in philadelphia. eleven below in allentown, feels like 23 degrees below in the poconos, will be dealing with sub zero dangerous windchills pretty much all day across the entire region. looking at high temperature around 17 in philadelphia, down the shore, 18, 4 degrees today in the poconos, but remember, jan, it is going to be feeling below zero the majority of the day. more coming up in your full forecast, back to you. >> just brutal, chelsey, thank you. >> philadelphia feels more like the arctic tundra this morning, there appears to be no escape from this bitter blast. as the thermometer heads into

the single digits, and the windchill as chelsey said makes it feel even colder than that. "eyewitness news" reporter, anita oh, bundled up at city hall, unfortunately, anita, only so much 100 declares can do, am i right? good morning. >> reporter: good morning, jan , actually feels like i am wearing 100 layers but still feeling this bone-chilling cold. and just few people that we've seen who are braving this weather, they're also bundle up. you can't even see their faces because they're wearing scarfs , hats, and very large coats to protect themselves against these kinds of temperatures. but some people actually taking the chance. you can see, in this video, braving not only walking along the schuylkill river, but actually on it, because of these temperatures, the river has iced over, and you can see in this video some people trying to walk their dogs, along the river. and officials saying that this is not a good idea. >> you really need to stay off the ice, it is not safe, and, frankly, there is no good way of saying it, it could be the

produced the highest tides this coastal area has ever seen. strong winds sent waves bursting through a sea wall. >> i think it has to do with the global warming obviously? >> in boston, water from the harbor submerged the entire area. crews working around the clock to try to clear the streets, so this doesn't all turn to solid ice. in michigan, the detroit river has frozen over. and the windy city lived up to it nickname. >> really, really cold. like ice. >> it is colder in cleveland, than greenland. cold nerve minneapolis, than -- and in north dakota minus one, in florida, man tees hulled dollars recalled together in canals in an effort to stay warm. and several hundred sea turtles are being rehabilitated after becoming disoriented in the chilly water. the coldest temperatures may be felt sunday morning from portland maine to the nation's capitol where it is not expected to warm up until next week. kenneth craig, for cbs-3, " eyewitness news."

and the storm is now being blamed for at least 22 deaths. new this morning, two cars have collided in upper darby, killing one person, and sending another to the hospital. this crash happened just before 1:30 this morning at twp. line road and lansdowne avenue. now the surviving driver is in critical condition. the cause of this crash is under investigation. a major shake-up is now underway at the philadelphia district attorney's office. new district attorney, larry krasner, has fired more than two dozen assistant d.a.'s and other employees. the former staffers packed up boxes, and loaded them into waiting vehicles outside of the offers yesterday. krasner was just sworn in this week. he ran on platform of reforming the criminal justice system. the district attorney's offers has released this statement. da larry krasner has long promised to bring culture change to the philadelphia district attorney's offers, or dao. this includes a broad

reorganization of the structure of the dao, as part that far process, 31dao employees were asked to resign from their positions today. which was yesterday. former eagles quarterback, donovan mcnabb, is out of a job. espn fired him after an investigation into allegations cents of sexual misconduct. mcnabb, hall of famer marshall faulk, and four other former players were named in a lawsuit. mcnabb was accused of sending inapropriate text messages, to award robe style whens they work at the nfl network. there has been no comment from mc nab just yet. >> actor ben vereen has apologies dollars to several actresses for inappropriate conduct. all of them claim it happened while the tony award winner was directing a production of the musical hair in florida three years ago. misconduct included unwanted kissing and making demeaning and degrading comments. says his intention was to create an environment, that replicated the themes of hair

during rehearsal. >> well, right now, book stores are having hard timekeeping a new book about the trump administration in stock. fire and fury inside the trump white house went on sale yesterday, days earlier than planned. already a top seller on line, as well. correspondent mola lenghi report, the publisher released it despite threats from president trump's lawyers. the author of an explosive new book about the trump white house is defending his work from attacks by the president. >> i have recordings, i have notes, i am certainly and absolutely in every way comfortable with everything i have reported in this book. >> president trump tweeted that he did not authorize access to the white house, that he never spoke to the book's author, and that it is full every lies, and misrepresentations. but michael wolf tells nbc " today show" the president is wrong. >> i absolutely spoke to the president, whether he realized it was an interview or not, i don't know, but certainly was not off the record. >> president trump tried to stop the release of the book

>> canada's transportation safety boards is investigating the collision every two planes on the grounds at toronto pearson airport. take a look at this. video shared on social media shows the explosion from a neighboring plane. now, says inbound flight from mexico was waiting to go to a gate there when a sun wing aircraft moved back from a gate and hit the plane. >> all the sudden ten started venting fuel all over the wings, then in about a second or two later, not even a second it, all ignited and like a big fireball, everyone started yelling and panicking. >> i would say so. west jet says all 168 passengers and six crew members, on board the plane, are doing well. says no passengers or crew on board its plane at the time of the collision. >> we'll take a look at this, new video shows what it was like on board a cruise ship that sailed right into this week's powerful storm.

moved through, but we're dry out there, we stay dry throughout the day, dealing with the bone chilling cold, as we start out for saturday morning. let me show you some of the numbers across the region, 9 degrees in philadelphia, 8 degrees in wilmington, six in reading, six in lancaster, right around seven in allentown, it is 2 degrees below zero currently in the poconos, down the shore, and single digits in atlantic city , right around 11 degrees in wildwood. but we have these winds. this is the problem. coming out, well, temperatures are a problem, too, but wind another problem. winds coming out of the west, 20 miles per hour in philadelphia. we could see gusts later on this afternoon up to around 30 , you combine the cold, you combine the wind, and then you're dealing with a dangerous windchill, right now , it is below zero everywhere. for everyone, across the tri-state area. 10 degrees is what it feels like, in philadelphia, this is why you have to bundle up, this is why it is so dangerous out there, if you don't. 7 degrees below zero in
