facing charges and that is just the beginning. good evening, i'm ukee washington. i'm jessica dean. prosecutors announced eight people have been link to the 2012 death of april kaufman. "eyewitness news" reporter david spun joins us live from the sat center to break down this case, david. >> reporter: we have been following this story for five years and haunted april's family and radio fans since she was found dead in her linwood atlantic county home in 2012 shot several times. who was behind this mysterious killing. we didn't necessity new until the detectives, made this announce. authorities made that announce this afternoon, slain radio hoe she lived with her husband doctor james kaufman, authorities say, atlantic county, prosecutors and another man named ferdinand were both involved in this murder for hire plot. >> april kaufman had learned of the many unlawful and unlawful practices that james

massive restructuring. some of those ada's cases just days away from trial and contracts inner is talking to "eyewitness news" reporter greg argos and he joins us from the d.a.'s office in center city, good evening. >> reporter: many are wondering what exactly will happen to those cases, mess of them have been continued, that essentially means they will be delayed until new ada can essentially go over the case, file and prepare for trial. but contracts inner the new d.a. hearsays he has a team of professional working to make sure that those delays are minimal. new outlook for philadelphia's district attorney's office. >> a year from now, this is an office that will have a high moral, it is an office that where there will be a lot of enthusiasm for new mission of the office, people will be exited to come to work in the morning. >> reporter: but a bumpy start newly elect district attorney larry krasner asking 31

district attorneys to resign friday and in a one on one interview he explained how he went about making the cut. >> we vetted judges, we vetted defense lawyers and we vetted a lot of prosecutors, before we came, came to the conclusions that this particular group of people were better served working somewhere else. concerns included diligence, they included ethics. >> reporter: despite plans to bring dozens of new employees on board for various positions in the office. >> we have probably about 45 people at this point who are either in the office or coming in the office. >> reporter: he admits mass layoff could have been handled better. >> i will not sit here and say that everything went perfectly or exactly as we hoped. i do regret anytime, any victim is inconvenienced or any witness whether that is because of weather, or change of personnel, or simply reality that we have more case s that we can try in the given day.

police quickly tracked him down, alycia. >> reporter: jessica first authorities are still trying to figure out how that suspect burglar got a key to the church and then knew where to go. that is something they are questioning him about right now inside northeast detectives. as far as police they say they got help from the community and maybe a little luck. today philadelphia police released this video of the man boldly burglarizing the church last sunday in northeast philadelphia stealing, offerings talked away in a locked room. no one at the church recognized the man but he clearly knew church well our lady of calvary knowing exactly where donations were and authorities say that he even had a key to the locked room. >> they had an issue the previous week where money had gone missing, and they put a hidden camera in which of great quality and, of covers, this sunday when they noticed they saw this gentlemen, and reported it to police. >> reporter: this video is of the second time he burglarized

the church, crime striking a cord with the community, some much so that the video of it was quickly shared on soaks media and less than an hour later, a woman in the philadelphia mills mall a few blocks way from the church watched the video on her phone and then looked up. >> sees the guy, in front of her and right then it just hit her and recognized it was same exact clothing. she was positive it was him. >> reporter: woman called 911, even trailed the man so police came and arrest arrested him. >> people like her who make it safer. her quick actions got him in custody and prevented him doing it for someone else in the neighborhood tonight or going back to the church. police believe the burglar made way with two you this dollars first time he hit the church, second time only about $20. that was a sting operation to catch him on tape in the act. authorities are not releasing the name of the suspect burglar because they are wait to go formally charge him.

reporting live from northeast philadelphia, alycia nieves for "eyewitness news". >> thank you. a church fire in drexel hill forced evacuation of the day care there. chopper three over the church of the holy comforter on versace machines road this afternoon. fire fighters targeted this steeple where heavy smoke, flames were reported just after 2:00 this afternoon. day care sent's attached was evacuated as a precaution, no injuries were reported. governor chris christie says he is leaving new jersey in much better shape then when he took office eight years ago governor christie delivered his final state have the state address in trenton this afternoon. he said he ran to talk bluntly and to shine lights on all of new jersey's real problems. the republican governor taught ed the sharp decline in the unemployment rate during his tenure and rebit of camden and atlantic city. he also issued a final warning to lawmakers. >> if you do not act in a bipartisan way to renew arbitration cap the property

abuse allegations. the university has paid more than 109 million-dollar, to settle sandusky abuse claims by at least 35 people. the city of philadelphia is making a big investment in its future to day mayor kenney with philadelphia works announced a six million-dollar youth employment initiative. the program will connect specific groups of young adults age 17 to 21, with work force development and education services. these who will benefit from all of this include those with autism and those involved in the criminal justice cyst t. >> prior to today there was very little comprehensive focus on employment opportunities for our most vulnerable. now thanks to philadelphia works we can bring these stake holders together and have a singular gel finding work experiences for young people. >> and start up operations are expect to begin immediately with full scale operations, beginning in march. kate joins us with a forecast and we're out of the deep freeze for a while.
