>> let's talk about the big temperature change. 4:00 a.m. this morning, 59 degrees. almost a 30-degree temperature drop just within 12 hours. by 4:00 p.m., we were at freezing at philadelphia international airport. and temperature change across the region over the last 24 hours, those numbers have changed anywhere from the 20's to about 40 degrees colder all depending on where you live. it feels more like 8 degrees when you factor in that wind chill in allentown, feels more

like 10 in reading, feels like 15 in millville. we are in for some single digit wind chills as we head into the overnight hours tonight under mainly clear skies. low temperatures in the teens and actually a wind chill advisory issued for the poconos. i'll have more coming up in your full forecast. we'll talk about the chance for snow. i'll let you know when that arrives. natasha. >> chelsea thank you so much. [cheers and applause] well, do or die. the battle of the birds is under way as the eagles take on the falcons in their first playoff game. 68,000 fans right now packed into lincoln financial field for this all important game. "eyewitness news" reporter alycia nieves is live in south philadelphia with the latest. >> reporter: natasha, this parking lot area just outside lincoln financial field was just as packed just a few hours ago when eager eagles fans were out here excited and tailgating. now as you mentioned most of them have filed into the stadium. they are enjoying an pclose attg

firsthand what is a very close game. it's been years since eagles fans have been able to enjoy a season this long. >> e-a-g-l-e-s, eagles! >> reporter: a season that has them tailgating mid january for a playoff game. thousands of excited eagles fans packed the parking lots of lincoln financial field despite the cold. some eager to talk about the success this season. >> heaven. heaven. completely heaven. it's the best season that we've had since i've been in grade school. >> reporter: and many others making bold early predictions that this great season will continue. >> i think the eagles are going to win on 31 to 28. >> 21-17 eagles. >> 21-nothing eagles. >> i'm just highly upset carson wentz isn't playing today but i'm a die hard eagles fan so i think we can get the w today. >> reporter: there's a lot

at stake for eagles fans today. this game saul or is all or nothing. the outcome will be a step closer to the super bowl or game over. >> it's not going to end today. i was at the last super bowl in jacksonville. not going to end today. we're going to come home with a squeaker but we're going to come home with a win. >> reporter: and this battle of the birds every eagles fan that we spoke to predicted a win over the falcons. now, right now, there is plenty more game. i just heard another cheer from the fans back there, many of them hoping that in fact that prediction comes out true that they get a win over the falcons and their season continues. reporting live outside lincoln financial field, alycia nieves cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> all right, alycia thank you so much. now let's take a look at the score right now. eagles are trailing late in the first half 10 to six. still lots of game to be played out there. the battle of the birds means big business. eagles fans are flying high and eagles gear is flying off store shelves.

local restaurants are also getting in on this big business boom. let's get right out now to "eyewitness news" reporter chantee lans live at chickie and pete's in south philadelphia. business is booming out there. chantee. >> reporter: natasha it sure is. chickie and pete's is packed. all eyes are on the screen. they were just cheering after that last play. this only means one thing. big bucks for businesses. >> go eagles. >> go eagles. >> reporter: fans poured into the philadelphia eagles pro shop in cherry hill. >> decided to come in just so that we can get some more stuff for the game today. >> reporter: shoppers searched for he'll the littlest fans. business is booming saturday after the birds flew into the playoffs a first in four years. >> kind of really happy just to be in the playoffs. i didn't think we would get this far. >> reporter: show me some of the gear. where is the gear. >> show them the gear. >> reporter: what did we get? show me what you got. >> we got an eagles hat. >> reporter: yeah.

been displaced. no word on the extent of the injuries or how the blaze started. a man escaped with just minor injuries after his burlington county home explodes. this happened last night on cornell drive in delran. the explosion was so strong it blew out the first floor windows and also knocked down the home's back wall. officials say a gas leak is to blame. and dozens rally and they also march in philadelphia trying to save net neutrality today: the very vocal group protested at thomas paine plaza in center city. they are against the fcc's decision to end the obama era internet rules. these activists believe eliminating net neutrality would let internet service providers charge you more to access certain web sites and online content. democrats in congress are working nothing on legislation to overturn the fcc decision.

>> ♪ >> welcome back everyone. panic in paradise. hawaii sends a terrifying false alarm about a ballistic missile heading for the state. for 38 minutes residents and tourists alike thought they were under attack. cbs news correspondent lora podesta has more on how this could have happened. >> reporter: taking for cover or shelter-in-place after receiving a false alarm that a ballistic missile was headed toward the island saturday morning. >> i was just sleeping. my friend just wake me up. he say, hey, let's go, there's a bomb coming in hawaii. i didn't think it was serious. >> reporter: jim jagger is a meteorologist from the cbs station in memphis on vacation in hawaii huddled with his family in a closet. >> so, we were trying to figure out the best thing to do and just using tornado

safety rules i know you go down to place where there's no window a small room and bunker down. >> reporter: 38 minutes after the warning went out, a second alert said it was a false alarm and no missile was incoming. messages flashed on highway signs telling drivers there was no danger. hawaii's governor said a human error caused this mistake. >> it was a procedure that occurred that the change of shift where they go through to make sure that the system is working and an employee pushed the wrong button. >> reporter: the chairman of the fcc tweeted the agency is launching a full investigation into the false emergency alert that was sent to residents of hawaii. this incident comes as tension remains high between the u.s. and north korea. north korean president kim jong un claims to have ballistic missiles capable of reaching hawaii and the continental u.s. lora podesta for cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> well, chelsea manning is running for senate in

maryland. you might recall the former army intelligence analyst spent several years in prison for leaking classified information. manning has filed to run as a democrat and is one of four candidates taking on senator ben cardin in the primary. the search continues for survivors in montecito california, five days new after heavy rain triggered a deadly mudslide. seven people are still missing and at least 18 have now been confirmed dead. though officials expect that number to rise even higher. much of the coastal community remains under evacuation orders while search rescue and recovery efforts are under way. >> we are trying to mobilize all of the resources at this moment to help the worker, the business owner, the homeowner, the renter, everyone that's been impacted right now. >> we have the army corps of engineers whose spur to come in and shore up all the infrastructure and build and assist local governments and clean up debris and also helping rebuild. >> well, fishes are working very quickly as the threat of

rain this coming friday could hamper efforts even more. and getting wet and cold all for a great cause. we are taking you along for the polar bear plunge in wildwood. cbs3 photojournalist matt mariano is that out there, also hundreds of other took a dip to raise money for the special olympics of new jersey. looks like everybody had a fun frigid time. i'm getting cold just looking at them. yikes. >> i know and that cold air moved in so quickly this morning. >> yeah. >> we were in the 30's in no time and i think it felt even colder, natasha, because we were spoiled yesterday with temperatures in the 60's and today's official high temperature actually 61 degrees. now that did happen just after midnight. you're like what. >> wait a minute. >> the numbers tumbled after that. a cold front moved through and in no time we dropped into the 30's and now down in rehoboth we've dropped into the 20's. here's a look at our live

neighborhood network. earlier this morning these boards were completely soaked from the rain we received yesterday and last night. most areas picked up anywhere from one to 2 inches of rain. and now we have that wind out of the north-northwest at 19 miles per hour so that's helped to dry off some of those boards. and look, we've got dry air across storm scan3. high pressure has moved on in. we're dealing with mostly clear skies here at home and we'll deal with clear skies even as we head into the overnight hours tonight. that storm system that brought us all of that rain has moved off to the north and east and the cold air filtered in right behind it. 29 degrees right now in philadelphia. it's 26 in wilmington. 29 in millville. down the shore temperatures in the 30's. it's 30 in atlantic city, 31 in wildwood. of course it feels much colder, though, with the wind. right now wind speeds coming out of the north and west anywhere from about 15 to even 20, 25 miles per hour, all depending on where you live and that is contributing to a

wind chill factor in the teens for most. right now feels more like 16 degrees in philadelphia and in wilmington. feels like 18 degrees in millville and allentown feeling like the single digits and in the poconos it's already feeling like 9 degrees below zero. heading into the overnight hours tonight, in the poconos it will feel as cold as five below zero to even 15 below zero from time to time. but wind chill advisory has been issued for carbon and monroe counties. goes into effect at 9 o'clock tonight lasting through 10 o'clock tomorrow morning. but you know what, it makes sense because we have entered the coldest time of the year on average. that actually began yesterday and lasts through the 25th of january with the average high right around 40 degrees but we are going to be completely below that for the next five days. 32 degrees on monday, 36 tuesday. we're back into the 20's on wednesday. then 33 degrees as we head into thursday. and that is all courtesy of a big drop in the jet stream. that has allowed us to pull in

that chillier air, big old dip but it's not going to last too long. you got to hang in there because by the upcoming weekend, so next weekend we are looking at another thaw heading our way. we just got to get through this week and with this cold air in place, we are tracking a clipper system heading into tuesday and wednesday and that could actually bring us a little bit of snow. generally talking about light accumulation. some of the higher amounts north and west but a dusting to one, 2-inches will be possible as this clipper system moves in. starting out the week we are dry and we are cold. here's your forecast for tonight. as we head into the overnight hours, we drop into the teens. but it will feel more like the single digits breezy clear and much colder. tomorrow a high temperature around 27 degrees. that chill has certainly returned. winter has returned with a vengeance. 32 degrees as we head into monday. we're at 36 on tuesday. again, some light snow will be possible and it could start as early as monday night. still working out the details with that.
