phil: what they do they practice. under pressure. and they bring it to the game. and they got so many little rules they follow. and that amendola touchdown catch in the back of the end zone, why that was so neat. tom brady is probably thrown 100 touchdowns in the back of the end zone. and what happens is he looks to the front of the end zone to throw it low. and teles nobody there. -- there's nobody there. always have somebody running to the back. just a little rule that they have. and how many touchdowns they get. boomer: what i will say about the patriots now. they get ready to go to minnesota to take on whoever wins the next game between philadelphia and the vikings, remember, they're going to lose both of their coordinators. one is going to become the head coach of the detroit lions and the other one is going to become the head coach of the indianapolis colts. the two left behind will be brady and belichick two most important people in that organization. the one thing i will say is that belichick is -- i'm sure he's thinking about next year. james: phil simms talked about the amount of talent in jacksonville. prodigious indeed but nate's point about the brashness. and you can take some notes
6:31 pm
from how the patriots get it done. after the game, though, it was our tracy wolfson talking with head coach of jacksonville, doug marrone. tracy: thanks a lot, coach. just a tremendous effort by your team. you guys had a 10-point lead in that second half. what happened down the stretch there? >> the one we had the first down and got the delay of game penalty. you can't do things like that against a great team like new england. and they stopped -- and never really able to get another drive going. and after that, and we weren't able to make the plays. we were playing hard but at the end of the day we weren't able to make those plays. credit to new england. they were able to make the plays. and at the end of the day they won the game. with -- i thought we had a shot near the end of the game. and with the ball in our hands but we weren't able to again get something done or get something accomplished. so i think both the -- the game was a hard fought game. from both sides. both -- all three phases from both sides were playing extremely hard. the whole game. and it was a heck of a game. and we came up on the short end of the stick. and we've got -- it hurts.
6:32 pm
that's all you can say. really nothing more. just -- you just hurting, i'm hurting, the coaches. i'm sure our fans. and i know those guys in the locker room are hurting. tracy: what did this team show to you not only throughout this whole season but in this final game? >> this team, all year long they've been gutting it out with -- minor things. or keep playing. and things of that nature. and early on, i thought that -- and hey, just you guys have a chance to do something special. because they were playing for each other. and i think whenever you have a team and they're playing for each other, and they're trying to get through the bumps and bruises of the sport and to be able to go out there and give that effort. and they weren't really doing it for themselves. they were doing it for the guys next home and that's a great quality to have. and it's something that you hopefully when we start again, we will be able to start building from the bottom up. because you never start where you left off. and that -- that characteristic will remain with this team. tracy: i appreciate the time. thanks, coach. >> thank you, tracy. bill: the emotion of the game.
6:33 pm
leonard fournette after the game crying. because what they've done, guys, they raised the level of expectation. they raised the standard in jacksonville. and you know what? there is so much to build off from this. this is an emotion that will stay with you for a long time. i will say this. this to me is the toughest game to lose. the championship game. because you get to the super bowl. and you lose it, there's finality with the season. right now, for them, they were so close to being there with that lead. and now for two weeks going to hear about minnesota and they feel like they were that close away. i've been there. i feel it. but that will become the fuel that you will raise you and take you to another level next year. and i love right now the way doug marrone is handled that. he was real about it. and you know what? -- this team will be back next year. nate: and over the next couple of weeks will -- we will compliment the patriots and criticize the jacksonville jaguars but the jags' offense creativity, r.p.o.'s, quick screens and the play-action. but i have to compliment josh mcdaniels. a couple of flea flickers we
6:34 pm
saw in this game and double passes. the creativity for four quarters and we were joking about it when we we were off camera and how you yment the bag. two weeks, who cares? this is the game that you need to pull everything out and they pulled out all the stops and every play was needed. boomer: beat the patriots, do it in your scompbling almost impossible in their own stadium. the denver broncos in super bowl 50. and patriots gave them all they could handle in that a.f.c. championship game and we saw it up close and personal. that denver defense was awesome. why? because they had the home crowd on their side. and for every team in the a.f.c., as long as belichick and brady are together, if you want to beat them in the playoffs, you're going to have to do it in your building, not their building. phil: tom brady let us know. we know that, right? you watch the game, think back once they got into the rhythm of what they do, just throwing the ball a little more. tom brady got much sharper. and on the other side, just for -- for new england as a whole they came out and were playing the game against jacksonville
6:35 pm
early. and then all of a sudden they -- i'm not saying they woke up. they finally said this is a fight. and when they turned it into a fight, new england is the best they came back and won. james: so the new england patriots have punched a ticket. and they will be heading to minneapolis for super bowl lii again as the guys have stated, they will be awaiting the winner of this next game, the n.f.c. championship game between philadelphia hosting minnesota for the ticket there. will minnesota be at home? will philadelphia take it there? that game of course super bowl lii will be on fox. well, that wraps up an outstanding season that we've had year. the guys, you got a lot more football to talk about. final thoughts as we go around the morn. boomer: final thoughts is i'm not surprised the patriots are where they are. they are the ones that are the most disciplined and the next game i like minnesota. i like to see the patriots go into minnesota and try to beat the vikings in their home stadium. nate: my final thought thank you guys and a great rookie
6:36 pm
year and looking to the next couple of years. bill: our championship game number one offense against the number one defense and number one offense won. phil: the number one poses won and thanks to all of you guys and a great way to end it and championship game was awesome. see you next year. that's more than a scratch. what do you think about our new truck buddy? ♪ ♪ ♪ state farm knows it's more than a truck. so why not give it the protection it deserves. i am so sorry.
