wash in a small pennsylvania town leaves four victims dead. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters here in new york. good to be with you. i'm ann marie green. it was a big night at the grammys for bruno mars. the awards ceremony was not just about music. politics played a role as well. henna dove a is here in new york. >> reporter: good morning. the grammys wrapped up with two artists taking home the majority of the awards. as has been the case this season, political and social movements took the center stage. the grammys were as much about the actual awards as they were about social and political issues. on the awards front, there was no bigger winner than bruno mars. he won all six awards he was up for, including song of the year,

record of the year and album of the year for 24 carat magic. >> both songs were written with nothing but joy. >> kendrick lamar wasn't far behind with five wins. a best new artist, among those wearing a white rose to raise awareness for the me too movement. >> not only for speaking up for the women in the entertainment industry and women who don't have a voice. >> activism took center stage most of the night. >> kesha dedicated a moving rendition of her hit "praying" for women who were survivors of assault. and a performance in front of the statue of liberty. they were introduced by a cuban american singer. >> this country was built by d.r.e.a.m.ers, for d.r.e.a.m.ers chasing the american dream.

>> eric clapton's tears in heaven was performed in honor of those killed in musical events last year. shooting at a las vegas music festival and the bombing at an ariana grande concert in manchester, england. the idea of a white rose came from women in the industry, a group called voices in entertainment. they say the white rose historically stood for hope, peace, sympathy and resistance. ann marie? >> thank you so much. president trump delivers the state of union address tomorrow. mr. trump touched on a number of topics he's likely to talk about in an interview with british talk show host piers morgan. >> president trump talked about feminism, climate change and his policies in a sit-down interview with british journalist piers morgan that aired sunday. >> i think a lot of the people in your country like what i stand for, they respect what i stand for. i stand for tough borders.

>> i'm going to come to that. for those who don't, what do you say to them? >> i don't care. it's one of those things. i don't say anything because i don't care. >> the president taped the interview thursday during his visit to the economic forum in switzerland. since his return, he's faced questions over claims he wanted to fire special counsel robert mueller. republican senators say mr. trump should stay silent on the investigation into his contacts with russia. >> i would say mr. mueller can do his job. we're a rule of law nation before president trump, we're going to be a rule of law nation after president trump. >> susan collins of maine said she's hoping for new laws to protect mueller from losing his job. >> to have a strengthened safeguard to protect the special counsel from firing. >> the president is now preparing for tuesday's state of the union address. the white house says mr. trump will tout his tax cuts and will

press for military spending and an agreement on immigration. laura podesta, cbs news, new york. president trump will deliver his state of the union address to congress tomorrow night. cbs news will have live coverage beginning at 9:00 eastern. as we reported the president's speech is expected to focus heavily on immigration. today the white house officially released the framework for the proposed immigration deal. an outline of the plan was released last week. it called for a path to citizenship for nearly 2 million so-called d.r.e.a.m.ers, people illegally brought to the country as dhirn. the plan who limit to spouses and minor children and calls for $25 billion to build a wall along the u.s. mexican border. this morning, republican leaders are considering what to do with contributions made by casino mogul steve wynn. wynn resigned as chairman of the republican finance committee over the weekend following

allegations of sexual harassment. some republicans say the party should consider returning the money wynn raised. during president trump's first year in office, he helped the rnc take in $130 million. ahead on "cbs this morning," we have the latest on the handling of sexual misconduct cases at michigan state university. a new report suggests a pattern of widespread denial, inaction and information suppression. in pennsylvania, the man suspected of shooting to death four people at a car wash is on life support and is not expected to survive. the gunman opened fire outside the car wash early yesterday in a small town about 55 miles southeast of pittsburgh. victims' families say jealousy drove timothy smith to attack. police say he was armed with a semiautomatic rifle, another rifle and a handgun. one family member says smith was obsessed with one of the victims. overseas, russian opposition

leelder was released by police last night after being arrested at an anti-government protest. protests were held across russia in dozens of cities yesterday to support the call to boycott next month's presidential election. president vladimir putin is a sure bet to win a fourth term. the season's blue pandemic is on track to rival the 2014 and 2015 seasons according to the centers for disease control. 43 million americans came down with the flu then and 56,000 died. federal health officials say the flu is widespread in every state except for hawaii. 37 children have died from the flu since the season started in october. coming up on the morning news, fitness tracker alert. how a popular app may be putting our soldiers in dangers and sideline entertainment.

are fighting floodwaters after weeks of heavy rains. the floods have transformed the streets into dirty canals where residents are using boats instead of cars. in paris, the famous riverboat tourist cruises have been halted along the seine. the bottom floor of the louvre museum, several parks and riverside train stations were closed as a precaution. several hospitals were also evacuated. drew brees' sons star in a sideline show and fitness trackers may be giving away military secrets. those are some of the headlines on the morning newsstand. the "washington post" reveals that u.s. soldiers may be revealing sensitive and dangerous information by jogging. an online interactive map published by a company, shows

the locations of those who use devices such as fit bit. it could include american soldiers and other personnel at bases and deserts such as iraq and syria. the map is almost entirely dark except for scattered activity which might be from mill tariff personnel at secret sites. a white nationalist group hung a banner over a bay bridge tunnel mocking san francisco's sanctuary city policy. the group claimed responsibility for hanging the banner which read, danger, sanctuary city ahead. it also had a skull and crossbones on it. the banner was visible to drivers, but the california highway patrol says it was quickly removed. the chicago sun-times says a serial stowaway was arrested again at o'hare international airport. 66-year-old marilyn hartman has a history of sneaking on to planes without a ticket. earlier this month she got on a plane in chicago and flew all the way to london where she was

arrested last week a judge ordered her to stay away from chicago airports. she was spotted at o'hare again yesterday and taken into custody. the economic times reports on the death of ikea's founder ingvar kamprad. he started what became a worldwide furniture company on his family farm in sweden when he was just 17. kamprad was the 8th richest person in the world with an estimated net worth of more than $58 billion. but he lived a frugal lifestyle, gaining the nickname the miser. he died at home in sweden at the age of 91. quarterback drew brees' sons started fighting with each other during a pro bowl interview. >> this is exactly what you told me earlier. hands to yourself, guys. they fight constantly, right? but you guys are supposed to be working. you're ball boys. what kind of stuff are you doing? >> as his son was being interviewed on the sidelines of

7.5% driven in part by optimism over the tax cut and strong quarterly profits. the dow gained 538 points. the s&p 500 finished 61 points higher. the nasdaq added points on a weekly basis. songwriters and music publishers get 40% more money from streaming royalties. spotify, google and others has thwarted the past few years. there's an effort to bounce the financial divide between recording labels and songwriters. it's unclear what the decision will be to consumers. the sandwich and soup chain panera bread is recalling cream cheese products due to possible listeria contamination. it affects all u.s. stores, samples of one type of cream cheese from a single production day tested positive for the presence of listeria. listeria can cause life-threatening infections in young children, frail or elderly people. maze runner, the death tour

the show on a commercial during the grammys last night. ahead, the host of big brother, julie chen, will stop by studio 57. officials say a small plane made a nighttime emergency landing on a freeway south of los angeles last night. a driver on the freeway took video of the plane on the side of the road. the fire department says everyone on board got out and there were no injuries. the twin-engine plane was reportedly heading to santa ana when the pilot reported engine trouble. tennis great roger federer returned to familiar ground by winning his sixth australian open yesterday. >> federer, the timeless one reaches 20 grand slam titles. >> federer became the first men's tennis player to win 20 grand slam titles. he defeated marin cilic in five sets at the age of 36 years and 173 days. federer also becomes the second oldest man to win a grand slam in the open era. it looks like major league
