carrying g.o.p. lawmakers through a congressional retreat slams into a trash truck and white house says that the collision killed at least one person in that truck we will hear from lawmakers about the frightening ordeal in just a few minutes, jessica >> reporter: talking football with former player rodney peete and his wife holy, find out her and her mom's special connection to cbs-3. and we will get to guess contact and team, in minneapolis in a bit but first big news right here in philadelphia good afternoon, everyone i'm ukee washington. i'm nicole brewer. long time pennsylvania congressman bob brady makes an announcement he is not seeking reelection. >> natasha brown was at that announcement and she joins us from spring guard when what he says is the reason behind his departure, natasha. >> reporter: all day long ward leaders, community members and city leaders as well have come to the brady building in the spring garden section of the philadelphia to wish congressman brady well. there were hugs, some tears and certainly a lot of surprise at today's

announcement. proudly donning a philadelphia eagles shirt pennsylvania's longest serving member of congress uttered these word. >> i made a decision that it would be best for me not to run for reelection. >> reporter: after serving for 20 years congressman bob brady of the first district of philadelphia will not seek re election, he reflects on the heartfelt moments that led up to this decision. >> i look back at all the other days and nights when the job came first, choose public service over my family and friends. today i'm just choosing family over service. >> reporter: powerful chair of the democratic party in philadelphia, made the announcement amid an fbi corruption investigation involving brady's campaign. prosecutors have accused his campaign of illegally paying a 2012 primary challenger $90,000 to drop out of the race. brady unequivocally denies any involvement revealing this latest news. >> my lawyers advised me based on their review of the status of the stays statute of

limitations i will not be charged in the case. >> reporter: brady's district faces near certain changes now that a lawsuit prompted the state supreme court to redraw boundaries of pennsylvania's 18 congressional districts. nonetheless, brady says he never feared a loss, if he were to run again, touting his irreplaceable accomplishments over the years. >> i brought back 15.5 billion with a b, billion dollars to the city of philadelphia and this region. >> there is nobody that could come in and dot things i have done. >> reporter: while brady's replacement remains uncertain he continued to reflect what brought him to this decision, family first. >> it wasn't the fact whether i would lose or win it was fact i wanted to come back home. >> reporter: congressman brady says that he will leave it up to the city party to decide who it wants to support in the primary election. in the meantime he will continue to remain the head of the democratic party, in philadelphia that is very latest for now, reporting live from the spring garden section of the city, natasha brown for

cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> natasha, thank you. congressman brady has been known as mover and shake shore we wills power, influence and coming up tonight on "eyewitness news" at 6:00 a look at some of that influence in the city and how his decision changes the political landscape, that is coming up tonight at 6:00 o'clock. ntsb is investigate investigators to the scene of the deadly crash involving a chartered amtrak train carrying brian fitzpatrick and dozens of other republican lawmakers. they were headed to a congressional g.o.p. retreat in west virginia, from washington d.c. this morning when their train collided with a trash truck on the tracks just outside charlottesville, virginia. white house says one person in the truck died and another was seriously injured. amtrak counted two passengers and two crew members went to the hospital with minor injuries. arizona senator jeff flake walked away from the crash shaken but unhurt.

>> just heard obviously a loud crash and felt an impact and we were thrown around the train car. >> reporter: organization that is hosting the three day retreat says the event will go on with an adjusted program, vice-president mike pence is still set to deliver remarks tonight and president trump will address members tomorrow. we are following breaking news right now in northeast philadelphia, lincoln high school is on lock down, right now, while police sweep the campus for a reported person with a gun. authorities say that they found several shell casings in the school parking lot late this afternoon after someone called 911 for a large fight and gunshots. no injuries have been reported we will keep you updated. federal prosecutors decided not retry new jersey senator bob menendez on corruption charges. first trial for menendez ended in a hung jury last november. he was accused of trading political favors for gifts and campaign donations from a wealthy florida doctor.

philly girl about their connection to the eagles and all they have got going on. we will get to that in a moment. we have don bell at eagles team hotel, eagles spoke to the media again to today and will fill us in. pat gallen is also at the mall of america doing something a little bit different, he is not with the team but with the fans finding all of the fun things that they have for them there at mall of america. as you can see all of the activities are spread out all across this area, they are calling it the bold north. so we will go first to don at that team hotel. don what do the eagles have to say today. >> j.d., busy day we had an opportunity to speak to probably at least a dozen players today but we want to talk about what is pretty much been a pretty significant day for the leader of this team. you know for everyone, birthdays are pretty big deal and that is the case for the

head coach. turning 50 at sb52 to day doug pederson celebrates the big five-zero before the biggest game of his life. >> obviously it is a great day not only because it is my birthday my wife is here and my family will be here later in the week and to be able to celebrate this with them and you know, with the team and to be in this game obviously is an honor. you know, if somehow we can pull out a victory that would be the icing on the cake as they say. >> eagles met with the media before practice, many were hearing about doug's milestone birthday for the very first time. >> i will try to give him a win. >> reporter: so other than a super bowl win, what do you get the head coach for his birthday. >> a great wednesday practice would be number two, that would be only gift left to give doug right now. >> haagen dazs ice cream. >> is that his thing. >> yes, vanilla haagen dazs

we have been here in melting at all, trust me. lets go back now to the mall of america, different end where pat gallen is stationed and pat we have been through the mall, there is a lot of activities for fans and you looked into that today. >> reporter: yeah, jessica question for you is where can you get underwear, socks a hearty meal and then go buy an awesome shirt like this because i was going for my paul bun john look where can you do all that and have fun in a theme park? anywhere else? beside mall of america? i don't think so. answer is absolutely no and we were here today hanging out getting it all, soaking it all in so before i bought this beautiful shirt i jumped out in the he theme park to take a look. there are lots of ride, 28 to be exact. there are five rollercoasters to be exact, and you will see a little bit later on at 6:00 o'clock that i will be taking part, i will be upside

>> we have a picture of your mom at kyw back in the day. >> yes. >> she's a legend in philly. >> she will tell you that herself, my mom, started off in philadelphia being a local tv personality in philadelphia and then we moved to california, and yes, she has been around and she is had an amazing life and legacy. our philadelphia roots are very deep. >> from your perspective as a former quarterback this whole nick foles story, what do you think about that. >> it is tough when you lose your starting quarterback and carson wentz goes down because he probably would have won mvp but fact that doug pederson brought in nick foles he understood that if something were to happy had a quality backup. >> this is a dream come true to have eagles here, i wish my dad was alive to see it but i'm so excited about it and yes, rodney was an eagles quarterback which was an amazing experience for me to be married to an eagles quarterback and eagles fans. it is a great time. we are rooting for eagles to win. they need to win this game.

look at how beautiful outside tonight look at that shot from the place one apartments camera, sky scan three live in plymouth meeting looking toward sunset which is underway right now. we have a few included building from the west, a lot have reflection out there and it just looks beautiful right new like a pastel paint nothing plymouth meeting. great end to a nice day to look at but chilly outside. warmer then minneapolis or sadly close to the same today n kutztown we have some sunset colors in the sky there you can see light snow, still laying on the grass and not much more expected to be added to that over the next day or two. our next front will come through generally dry. see snow showers that came through to the north here this afternoon. those wilted. that is a warm front associated with this storm system you can see cold front, line of cloud moving through chicago area and that will usual inner that blast of cold air for minneapolis starting tomorrow. that cold front will come through tomorrow night bringing us rain and possibly snow on the back edge.

in the meantime you can see wins from the south, warm front has lifted away from our area, which means temperatures aren't dropping much overnight we will stay around 30 degrees with the breeze now outside right now it still feels like lower 20's. definitely an evening to bundle up. temperatures not dropping too far mostly cloudy, 29 degrees overnight and tomorrow is milder day, 47 the high but light rain will develop by afternoon. here's what that looks like front starts to move through most of the day cloudy, noon still dry but couple showers popping up around four or 5:00 w , 8:00 we will see rain developing down the shore and this may end early friday morning at just a brief period of snow or snow showers and clear the coast quickly and then sun will return pretty rapidly during the day on friday. we are not expecting much out of this rain changing to, brief period of snow tomorrow night a few snow showers friday morning little or no accumulation and super bowl sunday we have light snow, change to go a mix. minneapolis forecast well, it
