from the department of homeland security talked about their plan and following their tour of the operations, secretary kiersten nielson gave an overview of the safety plan for super bowl activities >> obviously, due to its scope, it can be an attractive target. we don't have credible or specific threat but we will continue to actively monitor channels. we have about 1700 or so federal officials we brought to bear to support our state and local partners. about 700 of those are from dhs. we have done everything from help prepare on the front end, we'll be here during the event and certainly in unlikely event that something occurs we'll be here to support the state and locals here on the ground. >> reporter: and also, with an event like this, they're taking special attention to economic security. that would be counterfeit tickets, counterfeit merchandise.

that people like to stop by when they come to town when a lot of the eagles fans come to town. it's the mall of america, it's rather large, there's a lot of things there, a lot of shops, restaurants and also an amusement park. we decided let's send pat gallen to check it out and see how he does on some rides. here's what happened. >> reporter: the mall of america was built in 1992 and sees over 40 million people from around the world walk through its doors but the center piece is the amusement park, nickelodeon universe >> when people come here, do they realize what they're stepping into >> i truly don't think they understand the nature of what we can offer in here. when you walk in here, you're seeing this ferris wheel, rides that go upsidedown, you're seeing zip line people zipping over you. >> reporter: it has more than 27 rides spanning seven acres that cater to the entire no, ma'am.

and of course, me. my first line of business was to see the entire park from way up top. the zipping across the longest indoor zip line in north america. >> then it was time to hit the meanest of the five roller coasters. of when you saw me come off the coaster did you think i was going to, you know, puke. >> we call that a lunch box. >> finally to cool off, a spin on the log flume. all in all, a thrilling experience at the mall of america. >> reporter: i'm good, a little bit wet. zip line to the coaster cooled off, log flume. i'm done.
