2:10 am
journigan who is out with anoug pederson expects him to play on super bowl sunday. ith the media this morning and one of the interesting answers came from nicñ was asked, whate typically goes through andor a big game. >> the big thing is, i mean, i'm no different then anyone else. these games your body feels different things, you will feel emotions, butterflies, that doesn't change. i think big thing you simplify what is going on in your mind and slow it all down and that is just in anything you do. if you can slow everything down and have simple thoughts and see everything more clearly you make better decisions, you play faster, and for me i'm a much better player in those situations. the word that comes is chill. laid back. that is when i'm at ease and playing in the zone and everything is just moving, you know, in a way to see it all.
2:11 am
>> definitely saw it all against minnesota vikings when he tossed three touchdown passes and hopefully remains chill on sunday against the patriots. speaking of the patriots later on in sports we will tell but a game changer for them we have an injury update. in the meantime lets take that 1.1 loop back over to j.d. >> so much faster when you do it through magic of tv, don, thanks very much. we know that sports fans can be a superstitious bunch, all sports fans, but philadelphia eagles fans take it to the next level. they are very particular about where they sit what they wear what they do or don't say. we know all of these things to be true. today our alexandria hoff spoke to one famous, well known eagles fan, about how he is going to make sure he is not jinking the eagles. >> wow, no. >> reporter: philadelphia mayor jim kenney is not taking
2:12 am
any chances. >> it is all about fung sway, we have to move the furniture. >> reporter: in the video posted on snap chat that has since gone viral mayor kenney demonstrated lengths he has gone to ensure that the eagles are provided with only the best vibes from salt over the shoulder. >> always works. >> reporter: to ridding bad energy with the sage burning ritual. >> i didn't pick up all of the video but it was funny to do it. >> out eagles spirits, out. >> belichick, out, brady, out. >> reporter: mayor kenney says he does not think philadelphia is anymore superstitious then any other city but add an extra dose of good luck never hurt. >> all of the video i have good luck. go bird. >> reporter: what would you do if i took this into that building and opened it up. >> would you probably lose it, yes. i would do my best run by and pick it off, get an inception.
2:13 am
>> reporter: for some reason i believe him. that is a solid interception right there and in the responding to why statue of william penn on why he is not deck out in eagles gear, the mayor cited a few past instances where that may have served as bad luck. reporting live from city hall, i'm alexandria hoff, now jessica back over to you. >> alex, thanks very much. i think one of the more fun exchanges we have seen, from the mayor over the last few weeks, from anybody, really about all this, how he is like when reporter asked if they would put a jersey on billy penn. he said are you crazy and precede todd explain exactly why. he knows and has his reasons, no question bit. coming up in a little bit we will talk about eagles, not the players, are quite common here in minnesota and we will take to you a place where they fly reall and majestic, ukee and nicole, we will show you that
2:14 am
>> lie forward to that. >> with the phillies cap and flyers jersey and it didn't rk us. >> that is right. >> um-hmm. >> thanks. >> don't mess with the si in overnight and some snow could slow down the morning commute. t talk about the timing on all this and what we can e.pect potentially when k >> ukee and nicole as we look at storm scan three behind me is potent and more scary then it is for those who possibly are not thrilled with these n we have a front that is really moving through the entire mid-atlantic states producing significant snow across veont, new hampshire. for us temperatures are still abov srting as rain for every where as cold air comes in we will see that change over to snow, but the front will start, moving through, pretty quickly. it should be a quick hit overnight. you can see where front is right along that line where wind directions converge, we are already in the 30's in reading and allentown.
2:15 am
we will see that change over shortly. still in the 40's in philadelphia. still near 50 down the shore. we will take a little while for that cold air to permeate. it has to come in higher up into turn that into snow, surface temperatures will be still above freezing. we are looking at a coat to go an inch, mainly on the grass, wet road but there could be a few slick spots early tomorrow morning. coming up we will have better timing on tomorrow morning's system and talk about the chance for rain and snow on super bowl sunday as well, nicole. >> kate, thank you. man who shot a fill police officer in the name of ice is has been found guilty. the jury took just two and a half hours to convict edward archer of attempted murder and aggravated assault. surveillance video captured moment archer ambushed officer jesse hartnett as he sat in his police cruz inner west philadelphia in january of 2016. hartnett spoke outside, the moments after the verdict was read. >> the district attorney did an outstanding job on this case. i'm more than satisfied with the results.
2:16 am
i'm very happy bit, as much as i'm not express ago this right now. i'm looking forward to sentencing to find out how much time he will get. that is what i'm really looking forward to. >> archer's sentencing has been scheduled for may 14th. our coverage of the count down to super bowl lii continues straight ahead, fly eagles fly. >> that is right, minnesota used to sing the majestic bird we are not talking about the players but symbol of american freedom, jessica teased us. we will take you to a very close place to a bald eagle. and we're on the super bowl bash, our vittoria woodill gets party planning advice from the pros in a special, football addition of taste with tori, how you can make your get together one to remember. also we will tell you how eagles defensive end brandon graham is planning to send one lucky fan to sunday's big game
2:17 am
2:18 am
we have been talking about the eagles non-stop for days and days and days now but tonight we're going to talk about, the actual birds. the actual eagles here in minnesota where they are quite common. today we drove down to take a look at a majestic place not too far away from here and saw them live, in action. when the eagles flew to minneapolis for super bowl lii , they weren't only bird soaring in the sky in minute so the a bald eagle the team's mascot reside here in large number. >> they are a mega funa that resonates with every would be and everyone has an eagles story and special connection to bald eagles. >> reporter: little over an hour south of minneapolis is national eagle center on the shores of the mississippi river in minnesota. >> our mission, to connect people to eagles in history, in nature, and in cultures. everyone who sees an eagle is
2:19 am
inspired. >> reporter: here you can see eagles in their natural habitats from the observation deck, or get up close, real close. >> all right, everybody. >> reporter: in a classroom setting students of all ages learned about the bald eagle thanks to angel and washaka. >> our eagles are educational ambassadors. they cannot survive on their own but they can come here, learn about them, go to schools, nature centers. >> reporter: in 1970 there was only one bald eagle nest along over 200 miles of the upper mississippi river. now through conservation ande limb nation of the certain pesticide there are close to 350. that means that minnesota has second largest population of the bald eagles in the u.s. people at national eagle center are rooting for our eagles on sunday, right. >> i think anybody who lives in the united states of america should be an eagles fan as our national symbol. now from there i guess i will hold my comments, the eagle
2:20 am
belongs to all of us, and we welcome philadelphia eagles fans, we welcome everyone here at the national eagle center. >> reporter: what he was trying to say is fly eagles fly, i think if i was going to summit up, that is what he was trying to say but big thanks to them for having it down thanks to producer andy wheeler for put ago this together. it is amaze to go see reallying also in action. they are beautiful creatures and it was a real special treat to see that today. >> i'm sure it was. >> they looked great. >> thanks, jessica, it was fly eagles fly, i could see him. >> trying to be diplomatic but we saw right through him you are right. tomorrow we are celebrating the bird and the fans, join us for a big one more win line upstarting with the special addition of "eyewitness news" at 4:00 followed by "eyewitness news" at five and 6:00. then a special one more win, fan fest addition of "eyewitness news" at 7:00. then sunday second game end we will be live on the air
2:21 am
, right here on cbs-3 bringing you live post game comments from coach pederson and, of course, the players, we will have a front row seat as fans react throughout the philadelphia area. it is truly eagles and "eyewitness news" sunday night , don't miss it. >> background music pumps me up every time. >> getting hype around here. super bowl party not complete without the food in a special touchdown addition of taste with tori our vittoria woodill whips up some quick and delicious goodies to keep us fueled for the sunday show down. >> well, five championship rings, but philadelphia is the champion of food, and this sunday we know you have got the gang coming over. >> wow. >> super bowl. >> wow. >> so we have your super bowl party menu thanks to local party planner and ceo of party host helpers renee petrone.
2:22 am
>> we're here to take super bowl party to the next level. >> absolutely. >> let's kick things off. >> i love something interactive, easy. eagles are under dogs this year so i created an under dog hot dog bar. you can put them in the frying pan, however you want and keep them warm in the crock pot so your guest can grab a hot dog, bun and then go to town. >> with toppings like mack, cheese, corn chips. >> then we have chile now you have two bars totally. >> use the topping for both. >> yes. >> i'm digging that chile. >> i added some sirac ha. >> renee has a fun under dog line up. >> to give you inspiration we have a little menu. so foles, chile and cheese, carson mack and cheese and pickles or mustard and feet owes. >> that is good, come on. >> so we kick things off with the under dog and now we are going to down, the first down fit, mean cocktail made with fresh lime, lime aid, light beer.
2:23 am
. >> yes. >> and vodka club soda and dye. >> cheers. >> cheers. >> eagles. >> wow. >> zach ertz. >> quick flag on the play. >> you always want to advice drinking responsibly. >> don't drink and drive. >> game on. >> we have complete that had pass, over to the philly cream cheese dessert. >> or football shaped treat filled with philly pride, and tops of chocolate. >> brown sugar, virginia philadelphia, it is a cream cheese dip. >> it is delicious. >> stick that up there. everybody huddlesame aroun on and you got yourself a winning day. >> that is it.>> n or lease. >> yes. >> go. >> you follow our >> boom. i just might get in the game with all. that. cars, lime aid, and green food coloring. >> sound good. >> drink responsibly. >> yes. >> kate has our forecast.
2:24 am
>> because it is driving in rain when you go. >> and it could start as a little snow but mainly rain through super bowl, heading home to or from your super bowl party, which is good news for us, and we don't want to be driving in snow and, it is coming through tonight. the rain has, arrived depending where you are, lets start off quick in the poconos , where the snow is coming down, jack frost big boulder just turned lights off but you can see those snowflakes coming down there. moving south to bethlehem you can see just rain at least for now but temperatures are in the mid 30's and that cold air working its way in the upper levels of the atmosphere. you cannot see up close with the little rain snow particles but would i bet you are getting a mix there in bethlehem. then we will head down to rehoboth beach as we continue southward and it is completely dry. the rain has not made its way in there just yet. still dry just barely through delaware beach and cape may
2:25 am
county, rest of us dealing with rain and notice see purple starting to mix over with some snow as cold air filters in behind that front especially because it is through overnight. the question is how much change over can we get before this front gets out of here. pretty fast moving front producing snow right back into central pennsylvania. taking you through next few hours we are seeing that mix in the far north and western suburbs right now, as we go through two or 3:00 a.m. we will see more mix line diving in the north and western suburbs. by 3:00 a.m. mix line over philadelphia, quick hitting band of snow here around 3:00 a.m. and moves down the shore 4:00 a.m. and off the coast by 7:00 o'clock in the morning. by the time you wake up most of this is out of here but may wake up to a fresh coating of white and perhaps a few slick spots earlier in the day and then through the afternoon temperatures plumet, they will go no where, temperatures only in the 20's for your friday afternoon. for vast majority of us this is a coating less than a inch
2:26 am
possibly a little bit more in the poconos where it has been snowing for couple hours already but we are not expecting anything much in the way of accumulation i wouldn't expect school delays or anything like that just an isolated slick spot or two. temperatures drop. twenty's in the afternoon with wind chills in the teens. your overnight low tonight right around 30, that rain changing over to a brief burst of wet snow, clearing out tomorrow with falling temperatures and then we will move to sunday, saturday dry, sunny, cold, super bowl sunday could start with light snow showers in the morning but notice how quickly that warm air moves in, change over to rain and then talking about a soaking rain during the course of the super bowl at 9:00 o'clock sunday night. hopefully does not put a damper on potential celebrations, after the super bowl on sunday. so your super bowl temperature in minneapolis, 1 degrees outside the dome, at lee on the better side of the zero now, forecast has listen a couple degrees but still 1 degree there.
2:27 am
that makes our 30's not seem too bad but tomorrow is cold, saturday cold, and sunday warms up to be mainly rain. >> thank you very much it is all relative. >> torey's recipe you can get at cbs philly.com. >> yes, that drink we talk about. >> yes. >> be careful. >> time to check in with sports director don bell live in minnesota. >> guys, a game changer for patriots means a whole lot of work for malcolm jenkins and eagles defense, we will talk bit next in
2:28 am
2:29 am
welcome back. the new england patriots got good news at practice, rob gronkowski was a full participant he was in concussion protocol but he has been cleared and will play super bowl sunday. as forbidders they hit the practice field at university of minute so the a no doubt defense will have hands full with the five time pre bowl
2:30 am
tight-end. gronkowski is one of the best in the business. malcolm jenkins could draw that assignment and he has latitude in the defense. >> i try to be able to put guys in a place and really manipulate a defense based on our preparation and based on what i think and i don't take that responsibility lightly so , i make sure i prepare, every week and make sure i put not only myself but my teammates in the best possible situation, so we can have success. >> malcolm's teammates defensive end chris long is taking home hardware from the nfl players association. tonight they tweeted that he won the byron white community mvp award. chris long has donated his charity this season to charity as for the game itself he is chasing his former teammate tom brady and he says it will
2:31 am
take some discipline. >> tom does a great job getting the ball out quick. they will protect him. that is what they do. you know you might rush really well and not get a hand on him for a while but you have to stay at it, i have been lucky enough to make a big play this year. solve those games, third quarter you are getting frustrated because you can't get there and you have to wait for that opportunity and one time too many, and you know, that is just everybody, just sticking to the game plan and in the trying to do too much. you get outside yourself that is when he hurts you. switching gears and talking about hockey the flyers taking on devils and trying to avoid their third straight loss. lets get to the highlights and take you in the late portion of the game, late third we are tied and the devils bring the puck up middle and beat alex lion and flyers losing four- three your final score. now to north broad street, temple, defeating, number 16
2:32 am

(laughing) (colonial penn jingle) eagles defensive even brandon graham is sending two lucky fans to super bowl lii. >> i spoke about his on line charitable contest team graham means a lot. it benefits youth in philadelphia and detroit. >> i just really grew up, you know, knowing how much you need other men in your life that can prepare you and help you get to the next level and, you know, for me i just trying to make sure if i can take one or two guys, you know in the
