springs last february, took an uber to the crime scene and started shooting around 2:22 p.m. >> i was in a room, he could have easily walk in and killed me. >> cruz said he ditched his gun and ammunition. >> suspect crossed the field and ran west and tried to mix in with the group that were running away fearing for their lives. >> an officer from a neighboring police department spotted cruz in a residential area and arrested him. >> for a quick moment i thought could this be the person? is this who i need to stop. >> authorities have interviewed more than 2,000 people so far in this investigation. the school is still still a crime scene. >> massive crowd gathered at evening vigil trying to find comfort topping, their candles lighting the way one of several vigils thursday where some student remark this tragedy was preventable.

>> it is an american problem that school shootings are happening. >> a problem that's now rocked another american community reeling with grief. kenneth craig, for cbs-3, " eyewitness news". >> one of the victims of the florida shooting chris hixon school's athletic director originally from easton, pa, graduated from pleasant valley high school monroe count any 1986. remember him as a down to earth person who really made a difference in people's lives. >> he was a real type kid. all right? what do i mean by that that? he was real, nothing fake about him, you recalls dollars him for the way he was, the way he interacted with faculty and staff. >> i was new to the school. he was one of the first people to come to up me, introduce himself, made me feel like part of the team. >> he was 49, married, had two children. >> the tragedy in florida has some local schools reviewing their preparedness plans just in case a similar tragedy should happen here. in delaware county every school has a panic button that

immediately alerts law enforcement to a dangerous intruder or threatening situation. when that button is pushed there is a certain protocol here that our dispatchers follow. it is not just a call to the school. it is an immediate response where law enforcement is sent as best you can describe it, the caffrey is coming. >> meanwhile in philadelphia, philadelphia police work with the city's school police force officers responds to school lock-downs with a massive police presence. they frequently practice their response. some schools in new jersey increased security following the tragedy in florida as student left west orange high school, police and security guards met them. they are more strict about wearing i.d.'s some schools couldn't imagine what they would do in a emergency but police are hoping that their presence would put students at ease and deter copycats. >> i think it was just a big panic. like i don't think the organized drills really work. i think like yesterday everybody would just start running you.

control of his suv, jumped the curve and hit the eight year old while riding her bike. four year old man also struck, in stable condition, police say the community is devastated. >> unfortunately, you have these incidents that happen. the loss of any life, of course, is a poinent one, it is a lost to the community, tune have a child lose a life at such a young age makes you think of the loss of a promise , future. >> the driver of the suv is in the hospital with unspecified injuries. philadelphia police are investigating a deadly shooting in the lawncrest section, man shot in the face just before 8:00 last night, near rising sun avenue, rosa lee street, pronounced dead short time later. so far no arrests here. and police reviewing surveillance video after three teens gunned down in south philadelphia. the gun discharged on 2100 block of educating terrace, one in critical condition with gunshot wound to the back, two other teens shot in the leg. >> delaware man facing charges

this morning after bizarre crime inside the franklin institute. authorities say 24 year old michael are hand a snapped a selfie then purposely snapped the thumb off of a valuable statue. this happened on december 21 while he was attending a ugly christmas sweater party inside the museum. the statue known as the call valerie man part of the terra cotter warriors of the first emperor exhibit: fbi tracked him down at his bear delaware home where they recovered the thumb. we are told that the statue date back to 200bc and is valued at $4.5 million. >> a top advise or for the trump campaign could be close to reaching a plea deal with robert council robert mueller, in negotiations m month. agent, third person known to bes iestigation into russian meddling in election agent trusts cents
