breaking news at noon a gun scare forced lock down of the philadelphia middle school principal called 911 after a student allegedly reported seeing a person armed with the gun, and police responded in full force. >> it comes just two days after that deadly florida school fighting. good afternoon i'm rahel solomon. i'm jim donovan this is unfolding in the cities west oak lane neighborhood. "eyewitness news" reporter david spunt joins us from the scene. so what have you learn. >> reporter: i want back out of the way and show you we have a live look at police officers, swat members about 10 minutes ago, just walk out, and at this point police and

swatter here, they are doing an extensive second search of the building, including lockers, backpacks, all students i want to repeat are safe, according to police, authorities were on the scene just after 8:30 this morning when a student reported seeing a male, we don't know age of that person with the gun on campus. the school immediately went into lock down. dogs, swat they were soon on the scene. authorities had all of the students moved to the auditorium. they did one search which took about an hour and a half. they are on that second search inside of the school, nervous parents rushed to the scene, and have been pacing back and forth understandably waiting to hear very latest from police. >> it is sad, my daughter called me crying, somebody called said the school is on lock down. school gave me no information. and she's just really scared in there right now. >> they are in the building and the individuals too, so right new there is no evidence of a weapon and there is no injuries reported. >> but that being said police don't want to take any chances after what happened in florida , just a few days ago that tragedy there.

they are responding, in full force here, swat and everything, some of these parents turf say air floyd, they expressed frustration with the district because of r obo call went out after 8:30. that call didn't go out until 10:51 a.m., and some of the parents i asked a district spokesperson. he said priority in this case getting those students safe, and in a place where not in harms way before alerting parents. we will stay on this story reporting live, david spunt for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". thanks, david. funerals have begun for the 17 shooting victims in wednesday's, massacre, at marjory stoneman douglas who school in park land, florida. fourteen victims were killed, other three were adults. at least nine people injured in the shooting are still in the hospital. at alleged shooter nicholas cruz has been charged with 17 counts of premeditated murder. president trump announce aid trip to florida today where he will meet with those affect. cbs news correspondent kennett craig is outside the school in park land flashings with the

enough. >> reporter: president trump is coming to mar-a-lago estate this weekend 40 miles north of here. he plans to meet with families whose families have been shattered. authorities say 19 year-old nicholas cruz confessed to the shooting using an ar15 which he bought legally. >> obviously he should not have had that weapon and should not be able to dot kind s of things did he. >> reporter: authorities say cruz was in the school for only six minutes shooting people on the first and second floors, on the third floor, he tried to shoot through a window as students fleeing but the safety glass did not shatter. kennett craig for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". well, democratic senator chris coons of delaware is speaking out about calls for gun control and how congress is responding. >> i will be blunt, power of the nra in the u.s. congress is very, very strong. we should do right by our children. i have three teenagers myself. it is just heart breaking, watching parents, talk about their dead children and challenging us in congress to take action.

we have filed bills, we have held hearings, yet the republican majority refuse toss move forward in any meaningful way on background checks, there are a few republicans who are willing to take action on background checks and bump stocks but the majority leader has not brought them to the floor and we have not been able to get a vote. >> on the republican side pennsylvania senator pat toomey tweeted yesterday i'm committed to improving our federal background check system, my staff and i will continue to reach out to senators on both side of the aisle to see where progress can be made. he says he believe gun safety legislation should focus on keeping guns away from those who shouldn't have them including mentally ill. among students kill in the shooting with nicholas, a competitive swimmer headed to the university of indianapolis , on athletic scholarship in the fall. >> swimming. he dreamed of making the olympic swimming team and going to the 2020 olympics in tokyo. >> those who know him said he was a young man who dreamed about his future among other

meteorologist katie fehlinger is in the weather center with rain, snow and warmer temperatures. you have everything going on. >> yes, this is a wild ride for the next several days, and so buckle your seat belts it will be a bumpy seven day for us which we will get to later in the show but we are looking ahead to some weekend snow, let's back it up and talk about what is happening with the here and now because thinks an active day but for different reasons. cold front working its way across our area there is sluggishly making its full departure so it brought rain showers through the course of the morning and now in the afternoon, while we had a basic lull here in the last few hours, there are more showers, that are working their way east and we will zoom it out and see them approaching. for p.m. rush it is not looking good. additional rain showers, to impact you out there, and at lee even if the precipitation is starting to wrap up, column early this evening you will have ponding on the roads as well as just, spray from another vehicles, you know the drill how this goes, many times when he there is rain, even fit is not falling in the sky you will get slowed down this evening. currently it is mild, you've

school so a student was right, did see some sort of gun when the school was on lock down to day police and swat searched for a while. i want to do a live interview with cristina page, you said your son inside the school right now, certainly is a scary few hours for you, tell me exactly what happened. >> i woke up this morning, was fixing breakfast and i went in my room to turn the news on and the news was flying overtop of the school and i said my god, mom, something going on at school and we came down here this morning, and trying to figure out what was going on. have the kid at the floor until 9:00 since this morning and they are about to release the kid saying they found a toy gun and everything. >> are you happy without the police responding to this scene. >> i'm very happy and happen that i they released the kid. my sonnies with me so i can take them home with me. i don't know what i will do monday morning about sending him to school because i'm scared to send him to school now. i don't know what i will do. >> reporter: cristina page, thanks very much. i'm so glad your sonnies okay.

about a surge of warmth, that we're going to see, and, and, we have, so bananas, every where. so, let's start things off, and, storm scan the system that is bringing in the snow isn't the one that your eye will get drawn to here down through kentucky and west virginia but even flooding issues in place, like west virginia, but, that is where bulk of the rain is at today coming from. this, semi, innocent looking pocket of rain, and now, even a little bit of snow, and even ice, right now over new mexico , that is what actually blossoms, streaks northeast, hits us tomorrow night. it is about a 36 hour window, at this point before this gets in, to our area and in the meantime very dreary outside. it may be mild for february standard, 56 degrees at white field elementary school but it is damp outside on the play glun and there will be additional showers that rolled

through our area scattered in nature but future weather does tell the story very well. we start off with the here and now in the next few hours, you will see, more showers over spread at least the western half of the region and those continues will roll east over span of the afternoon. so, kid getting out, send them out the door with the umbrella , you will need them in most spots, and heading home from school in a few hours but then all this does, finally exit out to sea and then come seven or 8:00 o'clock the whole region in the clear. as sky clears this is a cold front passage the temperatures can drop off very readily. we do eventually bottom out to below freezing tonight. that sets the stage for tomorrow night, so the daylight hours of tomorrow are fine, but it is not until tomorrow night, overnight, that this takes place. so it is a mixed bag, you go far enough southe where rain/ snow line will set up. should be cold enough to pick up a slushy two to 4 inches of snow along i-95 and immediate vicinity. but in western chester, western montgomery, upper

bucks, all northwest of that three to 6 inches is the call right now. you could wake up to half foot , not the prettiest most pictures risk snowfall, it will be slushy, messy in, to sunday morning but this will all fall overnight. mainly rain though further south and east thaw travel. lets time this out saturday evening. i say about a up until about 7:00 p.m. when thinks all moving in from southwest to northeast. but overnight is when heaviest burst of snow will fall and then storm is out of here before the sun even comes out. it is a quick hitter but very robust system. so, moving it forward, lets take a look at what the rest of tonight has in store, again , we do clear out but cool down substantially and this little drop off on the thermometer is all it will take for it to, be cold enough to support the snowfall, but even by sunday, guys, i think that snow is starting to melt away anything that does manage to fall and accumulate it is melt ago way, but since well above freezing in full sunshine. then we will jump ahead to presidents day potential for
