he center philadelphia this is cbs "eyewitness news" at 11:00. the philadelphia morning ten years never seen anything like this. >> at 11:00. working through the night. 20 hours had later. firefighters are still on the scene of a fierce and destructive fire in old city. and this evening, they fear the building may collapse. good evening, i'm natasha brown, thank you so much for joining us, 400 firefighters responded to the apartment building at 3rd and chestnut streets today after flames began earlier this morning first responders were forced to evacuate, more than 160 people hours after they tamed the flames the building continued to smoulder forcing firefighters to set up a possible collapse zone, joel holden is in old city with more on how damage is impacting the tire block. joe. >> reporter: nash, and the perimeter for this collapse as

they sets it up just out of protection stretches cross chestnut street basically where the firefighter was walking. i was speaking to some personnel. one gentleman tells me he's been here since 8:00 this morning, the second are rolling in on second day's shift out here, some guys were already here yesterday. they are now back again for another tour, they continue to douse the building, looking for hot spots, there is one remaining hose left charged the hot spots high above high grounds on the revoloof making the fire is extinguished. the fire department ordered a collapse zone being set up >> we're taking all precautions. >> the first reports of fire inside a row of first floor restaurants and upper floor condos and apartments went i was the around 3:30 sunday, as

tenants escaped, firefighters were still able to access parts of the building. but that wouldn't be the case for long. plumes of brown smoke began to roll out >> i looked down and i could see smoke billowing out from the ground level restaurant >> that convinced him to get out and in matter of minutes heavy erupted pushing firefighters back. a handful of them had to hurdle out first floor windows. >> i was in bed. >> chris young owns the little lions, because basements are connected it's likely his prep area, offices and buildings utilities are under water. reopening any time soon is an question. >> we got 80 people depending on us for their lively hoods, we're hoping that it's shorter than longer, it could be two day, to years. >> reporter: on the other side.

best western independence park was also evacuated. many of the displayed took shelter in the museum of the american revolution. >> at the high point we had reports of 160 people that were evacuated. >> reporter: it's unclear if sprinklers worked. many believe smoke detectors were yet another drill in this series of old buildings, a cause won't be investigated internally until the buildings are determined to be structurally sound. and we're back live, and when we're talking about structural integrity, take a look at this sidewalk here. that is some suspected damage from all of the water that has been placed on these buildings. of course-to stop the spread of fire. right now. firefighters i'm told two of them were treated for minor injuries. they were taken to a local hospital. they have already been released as far as all of the people who had to escape in the early morning hours from these apartment buildings and the nearby hotel, they made it out

stuck in a massive hole in the street. it happened here in the kensington section of the city on the 3300 block of collins street. just before 9:00. the truck appears to have run over a metal plate sitting over some road construction in that area. luckily no one is injured. now, turning to weather, it's been a pretty we would weather weekend for us, first snow, then major warmup, it's the beginning of what could be some of the warmest days we've seen so far this winter. let's get over to lauren casey in the weather center tracking this rise in temperature, i'm happy to see them going up. >> aren't we all? the snow we had, where did it go, it's gone, temperatures we were right around average 46 degrees so not incredible warmth all of that sunshine and i think the lack of snow felt so nice to get out and about. we started at 33, and we're going on a warming trend now, 52 degrees our high temperature tomorrow for president's day
