i'm tired of coming to vigils like this, i'm tired of coming to these events. >> demonstrators gather in center city to remember victims of the florida school shooting we will tell but the promise philadelphia's new district attorney is making. and search on for a driver who hit a pedestrian and drove off, where the accident unfolded overnight. this may be hard to believe it is still winter. here's a live look outside we will tell you how warm it will feel as we make a run for another rorrer. it is wednesday, february 21st good morning i am's jim donovan. i'm rahel solomon. lets check the forecast with katie and traffic with meisha. i think it is warm every where else. >> feels so good walking outside the door and yesterday , and to think today

we will break another record. looking outside still early lots of construction we have an accident with injuries. we will get to that in a moment. >> we over achieved, 72 degrees, a record books and with in problem we will have another one later today. this is a very similar problem from yesterday, the visibility is a problem. patchy fog, more patchy then yesterday, should not be quite as much of an issue with visibility but we are down to i half mile or under in a handfull of locations like millville, ac airport, allentown but reading by comparison is looking g1 thing to point out is that you got to keep in mind your observation sites they do not represent necessarily the entire, of reading so there could be patches of fog there but generally speaking it is a much more patchy issue then it was yesterday where it was more widespread and more dense , in coverage, cross southeastern, pennsylvania. the storm scan is once more empty. you may encounter a fine my out there but for the most part we are looking ahead to an absolutely beautiful, warm

day, 53 is current value at the airport. we are warmer in mount pocono then we are here in the city but as day progresses we have a handfull of record that will easily fall, certainly that will be the case here in philadelphia with again, morning fog but later on just like yesterday, meisha the sun will break through and warms up quickly. >> unbelievable, 75 degrees. anyway i look at that, that is almost 80, crazy, good morning everybody. we are looking outside happy hump day to you construction, construction, construction we know they will be out there when it is nice schuylkill westbound between south street and vine, the right lane is compromised and hopefully cleared out by 5:00 o'clock hour. more construction here. this is the blue route, southbound, ramp to the schuylkill. we have been talking about this area they have been over there overnight we saw them there yesterday as well. this is an area where as awe approach it people put on their breaks. it is an area that does get busy even earlier, just peak at 95 south near cottman looking good there as we push

around that s curve. accident, 95 southbound at harvey road this accident does , involve, injuries, lots of flashing lights will be around here so give yourself a couple extra minutes or avoid it all together, rahel, back over to you. police are searching for driver involve in the hit and run in the nicetown section of the philadelphia. twenty-eight year-old woman is in stable condition with the broken arm, would the man was hit by a vehicle just after midnight near pull as ski street and hunting park avenue police have not released a description of the vehicle. search is underway for gunman shot a teenager three times in west philadelphia. chopper three over 56th and samson where police say the 17 year-old was shot around 8:00 o'clock last night. teen was rush to presbyterian hospital and listed in critical condition, so far, police have no suspects, and no motive for the violence. chopper three over woodbury gloucester county where police are investigating a double shooting at a county parking garage. investigators say it happened at cooper street garage around

8:30 last night, a suspect is in custody there, were no life threatening injuries involved in the shooting. friends and family gathered to remember a teen shot and killed in philadelphia's olney neighborhood. "eyewitness news" at candle light vigil for 19 year-old stephen wallace, police say he was shot and killed monday night in the 5600 block of north seventh street, police have no motive or suspects in this shooting. dozens of students who lived through last week's shooting at marjory stoneman douglas high school are raising their voices for gun reform. but as moa lenghi reports their message may be rest interesting in washington. >> reporter: students, from marjory stoneman douglas high school in florida arrived in tallahassee late tuesday ready to push for legislation to curb gun violence. >> we're going to keep pushing until something is done because people are dying, and this cannot happen anymore. >> reporter: their seven hour journey came just days after 17 of their classmates and teachers were killed, some of whom were laid to rest earlier

in the day. >> they lost their lives to a shooter and they were so innocent and they didn't deserve this. >> reporter: as students rode to the state capitol florida state house voted down to consider a ban on assault weapons like the ar15 allegedly used by accused gunman nikolas cruz. >> we are never going to stop pushing, and if it was once it can be again. >> reporter: students will attend meetings with local leaders in florida while president trump holds a listening session on school safety at the white house attended by members of the park land community. >> we have to do more, to protect our children. >> reporter: president also signs a memo tuesday directing the justice department to develop regulations that would ban so-called, bump stocks. >> i signed a memorandum directing the attorney general to propose regulation toss ban all devices that turn legal weapons into machine guns. >> reporter: bump stops were using in the las vegas last

shooting last fall but did in the play a role in last week's incident in park land. moa lenghi for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". philadelphia groups gathered in protest outside city hall as call for action as they seek stronger gun control in pennsylvania and across the country. they marched with signs and held vigil for 17 people killed and many more wounded in parkland, florida. newly sworn in philadelphia district attorney larry krasner a former defense attorney, was part of the group. >> if we have to go straight after the nra and we have to go straight after people who believe that cars should be regulated but guns should not then we will do it because that is what we have to do. >> philadelphia protest happened about an hour after president donald trump announced proposed ban on bump stock devices, protesters say they are pushing for more discussion and additional gun control measures. and some schools in gloucester county are tightening security and reviewing safety measures in the aftermath of the florida shooting. washington town hip schools sent a letter home to parents monday reminding them of the safety plans already in place,

man, they say 59 year-old sherwood harwood of drexel hill threatened to kill members of his church on state road. if you see this man, call 911. a federal judge in new york city has declared a mistrial at racketeering trial of reputed philadelphia mob boss joey merlino, jurors said they were dead lock in the case. prosecutors accused merlino of muscling his way in gambling and health insurance schemes, run by crime families on the east coast. his attorney told jurors that merlino was framed by turncoat mobsters. merlino has been living in florida since his 2011 release from prison on gambling, and extortion charges. south jersey school district is now investigating after students in maple shade high school allegedly posted a racist video. it led to increased police presence in the school yesterday. in a letter to parent school officials say they accused maple shade substitute of discriminating. some student and parents say the video showed several female student and black face make up with at lee one,

racial slur. it is just, horrible, that people actually, are just prone to thinking that way, and, because, you know i was brought up with the belief that everyone, is important, everyone is special. >> in a letter the school superintendent told parents that quote you have my prom that is we are addressing all issues and creating a plan, to make sure all students feel respected, appreciated, and valued. and now an update to a story we first told but on monday, taco bell worker has been fired after using a racial slur, on a receipt of the university of pennsylvania student. the worker used a slur to describe, in young lee after he placed an order on chestnut street in center city. taco bellies also retraining staff there to make sure this does not happen again. expert engineers at lock heed martin in moorestown will be hard at work today. >> they will pit their smarts against gravity by taping their co-workers to the wall. it is annual fly on the wall duck tape challenge which is part of the national engineer 's week.

a frightening day on the job for state troopers in utah watch as a trooper runs for his life to avoid getting hit by a car in an icy highway, this happened on monday in farming ton, utah, trooper managed to escape but car plowed in the patrol car on the side of the road that was the second time that the trooper's car was hit that day

>> just part of the job. the first time i have had to run in my career. >> well, the trooper was at the scene helping the victim of another crash, they both suffered minor injuries. case features in the popular netflix series making of a murderer may be heading to the supreme court. attorneys for a wisconsin man convicted of murdering a woman asked u.s. supreme court to toss out his 2005 confession claiming it was coerced. lawyers for 28 year-old brendon made a similar argument to the u.s. seventh circuit court of appeals in chicago in december but judges voted to up hold his conviction. doctor in indianapolis is fed up with the massive potholes and now calling on city officials to fix the problem. doctor lewis profeta said they are dangerous and could effect any critically ill child being transported. the bumpy ambulance ride could cause a child's trach tube to come lose to result in losing a child's airway and potentially die.

you don't. it will be one of those case by case, location by location basis kind of a situation, and that you will run into here, throughout the morning but much like yesterday, a as soon as that fog lifts and we will see the sun do its part to bring ate way we will sore on the thermometer. yesterday we had several record that is were broken, five separate cities here that ended up with record warmth, we did over achieve in philadelphia from what we project, 72 atlantic city, 73, and 66 in mount pocono, very warm up that way, and down in wilmington and trenton you also had highs in the 70's. meanwhile, can you tell where front is? here comes the cold front starting to march east a much more, organized, line, of rain , and even a little bit of icing and snow on its back edge here with much colder air that will work its way in. this starts to ring in as early as late this evening and through the overnight and true for north and western counties so we are still expecting a record breaking high today, up

welcome back everyone. overlooking south street bridge, yet again here with a little bit of fog developing on the riverbed here, so, watch for this, this is just one of many patches of fog that have been reported thus far this morning. visability are in the great, they are better then they were yesterday, so you are finding yourself in the holding pattern where we are still stuck in the warm sector of the storm system, and eventually, even as early as this evening some showers from the next cold front will come along but you will still have that holding pattern again of some fog that develops early object because there is so much moisture in this atmosphere is there a nice light wind and plenty of warmth. so that is how fog is forming,

and even though it is tough to detect on satellite, it is out there and not as fully affect as yesterday. storm scan quiet generally speaking but to the north and west there are showers toward lake erie and these will get here as early as this evening in the north and western counties. current temperatures are mild, look at this, allentown, coolest spot of the bunch but only in the 40's there. still in the 60's from trenton and dover, incredibly mild, even in cherry hill and doyletown, palmyra, mount holly, you are stuck at 60 currently. it will feel very, very warm to you and, you know, it does get milder from here, once this fog scours out we are left with increasing sunshine, a high of 75, to break the record, all the way back from 1930's, very long standing, and then there is a cold front to just wipe the slate clean, bringing in some rain and then another system comes licensing friday and in the upcoming weekend. we are just stuck in this rainy, active pattern, you will need your umbrella to be
