>> ♪ >> live from the cbs broadcast center in philadelphia, this is cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> right now at noon, two tractor-trailers and two trucks are blocking traffic on 476. the crash in milford township, bucks county, has left this mess in the northbound lanes. turnpike police tell "eyewitness news" there are injuries but we don't know how many or how bad they are. drivers will be rerouted at the lansdale exchange. and if you're heading out that way be sure to use caution. good afternoon, i'm jim donovan. >> and i'm rahel solomon. if you're a fan of warm weather you will love today. this is day two of potentially record breaking temperatures. we have team three coverage.

meteorologist kate fehlinger and chelsea ingram are outdoors soaking up the sun. >> you know, it is warm in february when you can walk out the door without the need of a jacket. it is so comfortable outside. breezily i'll give that you but it's not adding any kind of a wind chill. it's a wind chill out of the southwest which you will notice but you know, when you're talking temperatures like these, take a look where we currently stand it does not matter. it is 72 right now at philadelphia international airport and on case to easily break a record. actually 72 is in fact the record for today. and we're eventually going to rebound even further than this as the afternoon progresses. 64 at mount pocono. a lot of ski slopes snow beginning to break a way. that sun will shine brightly and the angle of the sun is getting higher at this point of the year so it just feels nice. as soon as these clouds break through, you know, you feel that sun on your back and it really does make it feel warm.

but there is some rain that's on the way which we will discuss. in the meantime let's talk about, again, the stats. today's high is projected to hit 75 degrees. withwe might exceed that. the average high is 45. we're talking at least 30 degrees above what's average here and as we had mentioned 72 is already the number to beat. we're there already so we've got a tie currently and that's a longstanding record from 1930 so eventually there is wet weather coming to this forecast, eventually the thermometer will drop off but we're all enjoying this really nice taste of may. in the meantime i know chelsea is as well. she's actually just north of me, a couple of miles on the temple campus. hi, chelsea. >> reporter: hey, guys, we are live here at temple university in the bell tower area. of course we have the mobile weather watcher here with us. let's just talk about these amazing temperatures right now. i'll show you the current with the mobile weather watcher and you can see the numbers are checking in in the lower 70's. so it feels absolutely

"eyewitness news" reporter trang do spoke to one of the victims who returned home after the brutal attack. >> moses lawrence is in surprisingly good spirits despite a harrowing ordeal overnight that left him beaten and bloody inside his feltonville home. >> i just got a couple stitches in my head. >> reporter: just before 4:00 a.m., police say a hispanic man with a gun broke into lawrence's apartment. >> where the money at, where the money at. i don't got no money man. he said where is the drugs. >> reporter: lawrence says

he played dead as the man ransacked his apartment. when he saw an opportunity he ran out into the street for help. >> i was just trying to run for my life. i run fast. i keep running. you know, i was help, help, anybody. >> reporter: the man followed lawrence out of the building and fired six shots at him. fortunately none of them hit but police say he was far from finished. he went back into the building and broke into the apartment of a 34-year-old woman. >> he did the same thing. he pistol whips her, makes demands for drugs and money and looking for another male. >> reporter: the man got away and police suspect he crashed into several cars on loudoun street behind the complex. so both victims are expected to be okay, their neighbors are shaken. >> it really is sad 'cause i'm over here reading and the sun is not even up yet and this drama, this crime, it's so sad. >> reporter: in feltonville, i'm trang do, cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> and police say one person is still unaccounted for after early morning flames destroyed

a home in collingdale, delaware county. fire crews responded to the scene on the 900 block of pitman avenue just after 6:00 a.m. eventually the house began to collapse and flaming pieces of debris came dangerously close to neighboring homes. fire police had the fire under control just after 8:00. no word on how the fire started. >> good news for displaced residents. ad by sunday's four alarm fire in olde city. while investigators continue to search for what caused that fire some residents who live near 239 chestnut street are being allowed back into their homes. philadelphia's department of l and i has given the all-clear for these addresses. now, this list is of those properties that are still too dangerous to live in but city inspectors will allow temporary access for personal items. to see the list go to cbsphilly.com. >> a pedestrian recovering this noon after being hit in nicetown by a driver who never stopped. this happened shortly before 12:30 this morning on pulaski and hunting park avenues. the 28-year-old woman was treated at einstein medical

center for a broken arm. police have not released a description of the vehicle that left the scene. >> students from marjory stoneman douglas high school have taken their push for stricter gun laws, background checks and raising the age to purchase an assault rifle. other students showed their support by marching on the the state capitol in tallahassee. >> we need to support this program. we need the make a difference because if we don't come out here nothing is ever going to change if we don't voice our opinions. >> meantime president trump is preparing for a listening session later today on school safety. he will be meeting with students families and teachers from communities affected by school shootings. yesterday the president ordered a ban on bump stocks used in the las vegas massacre and in a twitter post he also called for stronger background checks for gun buyers. >> a delaware county man is now in custody after police say he threatened to kill members of his own church.

59-year-old sherwood hargrove of drexel hill turned himself in to upper darby police this morning. authorities say he threatened the congregation on monday after he was asked to leigh the service -- leave the service. >> praise is pouring in for reverend billy graham following his death today at the age of 99. graham was the most widely heard christian evangelist in history. millions of people around the world attended his evangelical sermons known as crusades. he was a chance tore -- counselor to several president. he was a confidante to george h.w. bush, george w. bush credits him from turning him away from drinking. president trump tweeted about graham saying there was nobody like him. vice president pence calls him westgate evident americans of the century. reverend graham died at his home in north carolina after battling with cancer pneumonia and other ailments. we'll take a look at reverend graham's local impact on "eyewitness news" today at 5 o'clock. coming up on cbs3

>> welcome back. police are searching for the gunman who targeted the same south philadelphia business two nights in a row. surveillance video shows the suspect approaching the back door on the night of super bowl sunday pretending to be a pizza delivery man. the very next night the suspect tried to rob store employees at gunpoint as they locked the shop. the gunman fired a shot as he ran away. if you recognize the suspect contact authorities. >> camden county announced a lawsuit against several drug companies in the battle against the opioid epidemic. >> we are holding the defendants liable under the new jersey racketeer influence and corrupt organizations act. the new jersey consumer fraud act. we are alleging a public nuisance negligence and a civil conspiracy. >> it's time that big pharma is made accountable for our losses and to those who are struggling every day to survive from addictions. >> now the announcement was

made at the camden county hall of justice. the county is filing charges against drug manufacturers distributors and retailers. well, unique project is coming to life inside a mountain in west texas. >> called the 10,000 year clock. amazon ceo jeff bezos tweeted yesterday how the piece is coming together. the 500-foot tall cuckoo clock is described as a symbol for long term thinking. once complete the clock will tick only once a year. the essential respect hand advances every year and the cuckoo comes out on the millenia. bezos says it will be powered using day and night normal cycles. no timetable on when it will be finished. >> i don't understand that. >> maybe that's why we're not the ceo of amazon. >> exactly. well, still ahead on "eyewitness news." >> the down sides of winter warmth, why officials in the midwest say these flood waters are just the tip of the iceberg. meisha. >> well, we all have hobbies that we partake in but in today's love it how one man whose extracurricular activity that almost turned deadly had a last minute miracle.

they're already seeing buckling pavement due to the moisture and temperature changes. also means drivers have to be aware of new potholes. we've seen our fair share of potholes around here. >> i hit one the other day. thought i was going the need a hip replacement. >> glad that you don't. >> yeah, really don't need that, or a new alignment. neither comes cheap. >> speaking of temperature swings. >> yeah, so i mean talk about it. we are dealing with may-like warmth here so months ahead of schedule with the warmth that's out there. i did manage to take a little walk between shows this morning. i walked out the door with a little jacket thinking i would be perfectly comfortable. i was sweating. >> you were warm. >> it's so warm outside and it's february 21st that's what's so crazy about this. so comfortable outside. if you get the chance to get outside make the most of this. with time certainly the temperature will go down. we still have an overall mild pattern in general but this is the day that's not only warm but it's got sunshine. things start to go downhill with the pattern as well down the road and some of the wet weather that's been plaguing

the midwest and others is head our way. let's take a look at where we stand, where we're at least going to be later on this afternoon. the forecasted high as we mentioned early in philly is 75. we're already at 72 so we have at least a tie record but we have many more hours of the afternoon left here. the ac airport this is the forecasted high so in the orange that's where we're expected to top off. every value should be a new record. dieses dark because i'm going to show you a time lapse out here outside tulpehocken, even though it was patchier than issue fog was the issue. you can see it rolling through in the last six hours then sure enough that sun really helps to break it apart. and the clouds are moving through pretty swiftly. if you just look up you'll see them moving through right before your very eyes because there is a pretty significant wind flow right now out of the southwest and that's the other thing that's so bizarre to me anyway for late february for

there to be a breeze as stiff as 14, 15, even 20 plus miles per hour and it doesn't add too much of a wind chill. it feels refreshing. it's very bizarre but it's nice and it will last us the rest of the day here so even despite that wind really pleasant conditions outside. now storm scan is empty locally. it is not the case the further, you know, wide we go on this zoom. very obvious frontal boundary working its way east. this is what brings in the next round of wet weather for us. as early as this evening for the north and west most counties and then through tonight into tomorrow, here across the rest of the board. so, this is the system one of several that's bringing in the flooding issues in the areas we were just talking about. there's ample moisture along with this, too. so, that's why we say enjoy today. that 20 percent chance for rain doesn't come until later on tonight so we've got this window for the rest of the day to enjoy the sunshine and the warmth and those chances are pretty significant for more rain thursday, friday, saturday multiple pieces of energy moving through in that

time frame. at the moment it looks like it's primarily rain. i do worry about the possibility of some icing northern counties specifically thursday night and friday. so, we'll keep that in the back of our heads but for now again these are your current temperatures. can you tell where the cold front is? pretty obvious. you're still flirting with 60 in nashville but it's a freezing 28 degrees in saint louis right now so very obvious change of case coming. as the cold front comes through tonight we'll level off into the upper 50's so that's where your daytime high comes in tomorrow. we'll hit that at about midnight and the temperature just keeps falling through the rest of the day but again, you're going to have rounds of rain thursday, friday, saturday and sunday but at least it's getting warm again. 60's through the span of the weekend. >> i'm here for it katie. thank you. >> uh-huh. >> when you love what you do sometimes it's worth the risk. >> in today's love it meisha has a story of a man whose passion led to a life changing experience. meisha. >> most of us have hobbies and passions spending a large part of our lives engaging in them.

as with most extracurricular activities we really think anything will go out of the ordinary but as the seisors of life show us we can never take anything for granted. >> take a look. >> roger dannon has been hiking trails in southern california for more than 30 years. last month roger and his hiking buddy jordan attempted to hike a tricky trail for the first time but there was snow on the trail and the two got lost and encountered a cliff. >> my shoe slipped, i started sliding down on my butt and about halfway down my left leg caught a crack and i stopped because i was out in the middle of the rock with no way to get off. >> reporter: buddy tried to get down to him but they got separated. as the sunset roger found a stream and decided to follow it. >> all of a sudden i hit a drop off. fractured my shoulder at that time. >> reporter: night one was rough. roger didn't sleep at all. day two was just as bad. roger could hear the helicopters but didn't have a light to signal rescuers where

he was. by day three he was getting desperate. >> the third night i went i might not make it at all. but then i was out of food and water. >> reporter: but then. >> i heard the helicopter. i said guy pull yourself up and i pulled myself up and the light shined and i went oh my god they found me. >> reporter: that was the beginning of a miraculous rescue. very lucky ending indeed. he knows it could have been a lot worse. he says he's not done hiking of course, it's his love and his passion but for now on he'll take further steps for when the unexpected strikes. he promised his family that he'll start bringing a solar powered light with him wherever he goes. sometimes life will throw us unexpected curve balls and we can't control that but we can always be as prepared as possible. so happy to see that dan is recovering and not giving up on his passion of hiking. i don't know about you guys but i had a really scary experience in sixth grade we went on a skiing trip and i went and started skiing after

a moose that i saw and i ended up losing my team, there was two other of us and it took hours to get us back and i remember thinking that was just hours. >> this is why i don't hike or ski. 'cause it's too dangerous in the wilderness. >> skiing after a moose. >> yeah. >> and you pronounced it canada. >> and i -- canada. >> i can get away with seeing that being born and raised in minnesota. it was scary and that was just hours. think of days no food and water. >> meisha thank you. the u.s. olympian has a cheering squad in south jersey. >> which team u.s.a. athlete had her family up early this morning to watch her compete? we'll show
