defeats canada in a suspenseful overtime shoot-out. good morning from the studio 57 newsroom at cbs news headquarters in new york. good to be with you. i'm anne-marie green. well, it was day of protests and pleas. angry students and parents confronted politicians demanding new gun laws. others staged walkouts. they now say they may consider a call for raising the age limit to buy a rifle. in washington, students and others affected made an emotional plea to president trump who held notes with the message "i hear you" written in black marker. hena doba is here in new york. hena, good morning. >> good morning, anne-marie. exactly one week after the deadly shooting in florida students spent the day demanding action on gun control. a town hall overnight got

especially uncomfortable for at least one prominent senator. from tallahassee to washington, d.c., students who survived last week's high school shooting spent the day putting the heat on politicians to take action on gun control. >> senator rubio, can you tell me right now you will not accept a single donation from the nra? >> senator rubio would not commit to turning down money from the nra where students and parents from marjorie stoneman douglas high school questioned lawmakers. rubio did say he would support legislation to raise the limit on those who can purchase a rifle. >> that's something i'm willing to consider. >> earlier in the day president trump met with students and parents from douglas high school, sandy hook, and columbine. >> how is it that easy to buy that type of weapon.

>> how did we not stop this after columbine and sandy hook. i'm sitting with a mother that lost her son and it's still happening. >> mr. trump spoke of strengt n strengthening background checks and arming teachers. >> if you had a teacher who was adept with firearms -- >> they're calling for changes to gun laws. around 100 survivors of last week's shooting were among them. and a spokesperson for the nra was also at the town hall spoke of flaws in the system. she aso pointed a finger at law enforcement for not doing more to act on red flags raised by the alleged shooter leading up to the attack. anne-marie. the national rifle association rejected the idea of raising the age limit for buying a rifle.

federal law prohibits those under the age of 21 from purchasing a handgun. in a statement the nra said passing the law that makes it illegal for someone at 18 to purchase a rifle deprives them of the right for protection. ahead on "cbs this morning" we'll talk with a women who talked to police. pover a large part of the county from the plains to the northeast. there are flood warnings and advisories from texas to west virginia, an area which could see multiple waves of rain. in northern indiana residents had to evacuate their homes as the water rose. the mayor of elkhart says his city hasn't seen flooding like this in 45 years. in irl south of chicago drivers stranded in standing water had to be rescued. graham is being remembered as the most widely heard
