is cbs3 "eyewitness news". >> tonight at 11 o'clock a weekend washout. keep your umbrella handy because the rain we've been dealing with, it's not over just yet. this dreary stretch continues into tomorrow. storm scan3 shows where some of the heaviest rainfall is happening right now. but when will we finally see a break in these clouds? good evening, everyone, i'm natasha brown. thanks for joining us. raindrops continues to fall a you will crock as the region but the heaviest rain is still ahead of us. lauren casey is live in the weather center tracking the latest. lots of green behind you. >> lots of green. we've been dealing with a stalled out frontal boundary really since thursday. keeping this like patchy mainly light to moderate rainfall around but we'll see a cold front that's going to help clear all of this moisture but but before that that we'll see heavier rainfall. storm scan3 still showing patchy light to moderate

rainfall. baltimore, d.c. heavier rain, becoming more organized. that is lifting to the north and east. here is our weather system that is going to kick out that stalled frontal boundary, a very potent s see a line of showers and thunderstorms across portions of the mid south and midwest. we're not concerned about snowfall but we'll see quite a bit of rainfall moving in overnight tonight, maybe lulling you to sleep. widespread rain overnight, steady after midnight, heavy at times. we could see ponding on roads and localized street flooding. if you have to take to the roads early on a sunday morning, future precip showing you as we head throughout the overnight period this really starting to fill in. check out all the pockets of heavier rainfall marked by those yellows and oranges. as we head throughout the overnight period, four, five, 6:00 a.m. still hanging around into the 7 o'clock hour. but it's sunday. just stay in bed. 10 o'clock clock, 11 o'clock still dealing with the rain. tomorrow afternoon we'll start

"eyewitness news" reporter alycia nieves has the story.

>> reporter: they chances that out of control driver from his truck while telling him he picked the wrong street to do this kind of damage to all those vehicles. shattered glass and plastic car parts still littered the street in south philadelphia 24 hours after an out of control driver came down south third street ramming into one car after another after another. >> it was like mass hysteria down here. everybody was walking around the street looking at everybody's car. >> reporter: 15 vehicles were hit. >> i think three or four were totaled. >> reporter: authorities saying the out of control driver attempted to flee towards porter street in his ford f-150 truck. >> i was able to chase the vehicle down with my neighbor. >> reporter: this off duty sheriff's officer and people in this community wouldn't let him. >> i live in this community. if i'm not an officer a normal person would take off and do what they got to do t. >> reporter: off duty officer michael magee as he

thought about kids in this neighborhood potentially getting hurt chased down the out of control driver and eventually yanked that driver out of his truck. >> he pulled the guy's belt off and used that to hold him. he was resisting while he was on the ground. >> he said i'm from the neighborhood. i said i don't care. i don't care. you from the neighborhood you know how to act. >> reporter: back out here live philadelphia police say when they arrived on scene here that out of control driver was on the ground with a crowd of people from this community around him. authorities took him into custody on suspicion of driving under the influence and identify him as 43-year-old james keyser who did not live far from here. live in south philadelphia, alycia nieves. >> police in wilmington charge two people in the death of a 15 month old child. lavar harris is one of the suspects in this case. investigators say the child's mother left her baby in the care of harris and another

suspect last week. the two suspects were arrested yesterday on murder charges. no word yet on exactly how that child died. president trump meantime is responding to a memo released by democrats on the house intelligence committee its a rebut tool a republican report alleging anti-trump bias in the fbi and justice department. cbs news correspondent laura podesta has more. >> reporter: on twitter saturday night, president trump says the memo released by democrats on government surveillance abuses is a total political and legal bust. and just confirms all of the terrible things that were done. the president also calls in to fox news. >> what they did is really fraudulent and somebody should be looking into that. >> reporter: earlier this month republicans released a memo saying the surveillance warrant was obtained and renewed on former trump campaign adviser carter page. the redacted memo released

saturday written by democrats alleges that the fbi had an independent basis separate from that information to believe page was knowingly helping russian intelligence. in a statement ranking committee member adam schiff said our extensive review of the initial fisa application failed to uncover any evidence of illegal unethical or unprofessional behavior for law enforcement. laura podesta for cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> well, president trump is making his position on pennsylvania's congressional district map very clear as the feature of that map -- future that of map remains unclear. the president tweeted "democrat judges have totally redrawn election lines in the great state of pennsylvania. this is very unfair to republicans and to our country as a whole. must be appealed to the united states supreme court asap.

this is the map he's referring to. it was put in place by the state supreme court on monday. on thursday, a group of republican lawmakers sued election officials asking the federal court to instead require that this year's elections use the republican drawn 2011 district map. and several companies meantime they are now cutting ties with the national rifle association after the deadly school shooting in parkland, florida. united airlines tweeted this morning that it will now stop offering discounted rates to the nra's annual meeting. enterprise hertz and metlife are also ending business ties with the gun lobbying organization. today the u.s. congressman who represents the city of parkland called for action on a political level. >> 20 years since columbine we continue to suffer a mass gun violence problem that is uniquely american. the rest of the developed world has fixed this and saved lives. >> the valentine's day shooting at the florida high

school claimed 17 lives. president trump responded to the tragedy by suggesting tougher background checks and arming teachers. and now the power of the working people was in full view today in cities all across the country including right here in philadelphia. union members low wage workers allies and community leaders all gathered at independence hall and then joined up with others fighting for workers freedom at city hall. this come two days before the u.s. supreme court here's oral argument in a lawsuit. >> union workers are under paid. and we're out here just to educate and just let everybody know what is -- what is being legislated, the deception behind it and what we need to do. >> the supreme court case is janice versus the american federation of state county and municipal employees and

illinois state employee is challenging the system of compulsory union dues. the rally in philadelphia was one of more than 300 at work sites all around the nation. meantime new york governor andrew cuomo spoke at the working people day of action rally in new york city today. he stated his support for labor unions and criticized president trump's tax plan. cuomo said if the president wanted to help working people he would have given them a tax cut and fair wages and real working lights. and folks flocked to ohio statehouse in columbus to fight proposed federal legislation that would make ohio a right to work state. protesters hope to shed some light on how unions stabilize the economy and ultimately protect the middle class. stay with us everyone. still ahead on "eyewitness news" tonight a super celebration for two of the coaches that helped the eagles make history. >> we hereby proclaim

bowl celebration continued saturday. as moorestown, new jersey, honored two of their favorite citizens head coach doug pederson and assistant offensive coach eugene chung. >> what's up moorestown. >> this is an example of what a community should be like right here and i cannot be more proud to say that i live near moorestown and to be a part of this community. >> reporter: chung and pederson were praised and for a man known to love ice cream this was his cherry on top. >> we hereby proclaim february 24, 2018 to be coach pederson today. >> reporter: hundreds came to show their appreciation. >> it's great for the city of philadelphia, surrounding communities to be part of something so special. >> going forward right now we're not going to be the same philadelphia eagles. the way the business works we're in the going to be the same. but we're going to have the same message. i'm going to work just as hard. >> reporter: pederson also lived in moorestown during his first coaching stint in philadelphia under andy reid.

residents say they enjoy making memories with the coach and his family. >> cool that he got to come back. it's awesome. >> this is incredible to have doug pederson come here and be with us in this community. >> reporter: coach pederson says he likes having his own day and plans to make eight vacation day in the future and hopefully one where he'll savor more super bowl victories. in moorestown, cleve bryan, cbs3 "eyewitness news." >> well, the full international olympic committee executive board voted tonight to uphold the russian ban in the 2018 winter olympics and that means russian athletes will not march in the closing ceremonies under their own flag. two of the four athletes who tested positive for banned drugs in pyeongcheng were russian including a curler who had to return his bronze medal. russia was banned from the olympics on december 5th because of a massive doping scandal at the 2014 sochi games. >> reporter: the body of billy graham is back in his hometown just ahead of his funeral next week.

pallbearer brought graham's body out of the funeral home in ashville, north carolina, this morning. spectatord lined the 130-mile procession route from ashville to his birthplace of charlotte north carolina where his body will lay in repose for two days. graham's body will be brought to the u.s. capitol on wednesday and thursday before it's returned to charlotte on friday for the funeral. and we now know when hbo will be releasing its biopic starring a pacino as joe paterno. hbo says the movie will focus on the fallout paterno faced from the child abuse scandal involving former assistant coach jerry sandusky. the all time winningest coach in major college football here was fired days after sandusky's arrest and he died two months later at the age of 85. four months after

hurricane maria hit the island a financial lifeline for puerto rico it is on the way. the u.s. department of housing and urban development says it's awarding the island $1.5 billion to help it recover from hurricanes irma and maria. the money will be used as grants to support long term recovery of seriously damaged homes and businesses. officials said earlier this week that nearly half a million customers still remain without power on the island even now. all right. lauren, so i'm telling you it has just been a nasty couple days. >> yeah. >> we can't see any sun. is it anywhere in our future. >> dreary. look out the window you're like should i go outside? no. >> no. >> skip it. again tomorrow things will be the same. the heaviest rain does arrive tonight into the first half of our sunday. but right now still have clouds in place. we are barely dry at the moment in center city philadelphia. 46 degrees with those northeasterly winds up around 9 miles per hour making it

feel a more like 41 degrees. add that damp factor, yeah, just doesn't feel so great and it has been a wet february thus far. month to date precipitation, over 5-inches of water, in the about 3-inches above our average and we're going to add to that tally as we head throughout the next 24 hours but in our live neighborhood network we've had the rain on and off throughout the day today, but the rainfall has been very light in intensity. rainfall totals about a quarter inch. overnight and first half of the day sunday we could pick up half an inch, three-quarters, maybe some spots an inch because we'll have steady rain, foggy at that. maybe a few rumbles of thunder, down to 44 degrees and for our day tomorrow more rain during the morning hours. as we head into the afternoon that will be tapering off from west to east. looks like a mild day with a high temperature at 62 degrees. but a little bit of a chill right now. 48 degrees in wilmington, 47

in millville. we're at 44 trees in allentown. some 30's in the poconos. also dealing with the foggy conditions visibilities down to about 3 miles in wildwood, 5-mile visibility in the poconos. carbon and monroe counties could see dense fog reducing visibilities down to less than a quarter of a mile and it is going to be a soggy start to the end of the weekend. steady and heavy rain into the 9 o'clock hour o towards lunchtime rain starts to taper off, 52 degrees. if you need to run ther rants wait for the rain to clear out you can do so late afternoon and early evening with mostly cloudy skies and still pretty mild with temperatures in the upper 50's. storm scan3 showing us things starting to pick up over the last 20 to 30 minutes seeing more rain breaking out across portions of south jersey moving into the shore, delaware. this batch of rainfall moving through the delmarva peninsula so central and northern delaware that rain is about to start moving in for you. we're dealing with this system up wind that will break up

this blocked up pattern they has kept this rainfall steady in nature since thursday. see this line of showers and embedded thunderstorms. could hear a rumble of thunder overnight. our imagery showing us 8 o'clock rain widespread and heavy in nature. as we head throughout the afternoon though things starting to taper off from west to east. some models keeping the rain around a little bit longer into the afternoon. by midafternoon i think this will be wrapping up for most of us. keeping the clouds around tomorrow evening. then there goes that cloud deck as we head throughout the second half of our monday. sunshine will finally return across the area but future rainfall amounts, check this out could pick up a half inch, quarter of an inch maybe over an inch of rainfall as we head throughout the last of this event. tomorrow chillier up towards the lehigh valley with highs only in the 40's but across parts of delaware we could see high temperatures as warm as mid to upper 60's and then nice and quiet as we head into monday and tuesday.

♪ hey. hey. closed door? i want to talk to you. talk to or talk at? probably nothing. well, maybe nothing. so something. got a call from one of our cos this morning. turns out one of our cops got his nose broken busting up a bar fight on the upper east side. okay, that happened. thing is, the perp in the incident is alex jasper. not ringing a bell. son of frederick t. jasper. the mayor's main bundler? the same. oh. normally, you hit a cop, you break his nose, the judge hits you with a hefty bail. i'm guessing that didn't happen here. released on his own recognizance. i see. and this comes to me because... because should we tell the boss? we? well, now that you know the particulars, yeah. crafty. two minutes ago i was blissfully ignorant.
