was a flat, emotionless apology, in fact his wife got up and left. joseph myre was about as emotionless in court tuesday morning as he was back in may when this video was taken after his arrest. stone cold husband and fatter from collegeville pleaded guilty to dozens of charges of aggravated assault, strangulation, and child endangerment, police say he beat his wife and two children with pvc pipes and sticks that he shoved needles under their fingernails and used a shock collar on them. >> we're talking about torturing them for years using shock collars, to stick needles under their nails, strangling them to the point where they would pass out. >> reporter: the abuse came to light after myre's wife showed up with a skull fracture. she said blow to her head came just shy of killing her. she said that she prayed for, our own deaths in order to escape referring to her children. she said it was 21 years of

utter destruction. mhyre said he had pre found sorrow for his actions, after all, told the court he had three years of graduate studies under his belt, for of all things, children and family therapy. >> it is certainly ironic and i would imagine that he may have even used some of his knowledge and use that as a tool to be able to control them. >> reporter: in his wife, addressed to the court she also said that to the judge don't feel sorry for us, we got out of this, we survived, the others are not so lucky. reporting live outside the courthouse in norristown i'm joe holden for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> joe, thank you. cherry hill east high school students sent a strong peaceful message to the district today. they walk out of class this morning to support a teacher who was reportedly placed on administrative leave for voic ing concerns over school safety. cleve bryan is live at the school where the student led effort, it is gaining some traction, cleve. >> reporter: jessica, the students walked around the school and then hung outside for about a hour and a half and then went back in and had an assembly. we are hearing from the school district tonight that they won't be punish in anyway for their actions but there is no indication they will get what they want which is their teacher back in the classroom. from their seats, to the streets, hundreds of students walked out of cherry hill east high school on tuesday morning , these students are speaking up for a teacher they say was punished for sounding an alarm for improving school safety. history teacher tim locke's reportedly out on administrative leave for allegedly talking about the parkland massacre and how he felt their school is vulnerable to a similar attack >> i used to work for this district and i'm embarrassed they are working this way. >> reporter: lisa boyle said she's terrified of the school shooting ever happening here. >> every day, every day i worry, worry, worry, a i don't think any parent or kid should

worry about that at all. this should be a safe place, school always should be a place where you don't think about violence like that. >> reporter: cherry hill schools say they will answer questions about tim locke because they do not comment on personnel matters. officials say there was an assembly for students to voice their concerns and that the principal sent out a letter retracting a previous threat to keep those who disrupted school from participating in activities like prom and activity. tuesday afternoon cherry hill township's mayor and council called on the school district to take immediate action on security, stable read although board of education ultimately makes the final decisions on school security cherry hill police chief william manahan has recommended that the board utilized armed police officers as part of any plan that is implemented. >> it is a terrible thing that happened, you know, god forbid it should happen here but this is very serious. >> reporter: those students and parents will continue to raise their voice, in fact, tonight is there a school board meeting where many people are planning to attend. live from cherry hill, cleve

bryan, for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". coming up tonight at 11:00 t lines of the conversation about school shootings. >> i, myself, have thought about this because we run drills. i'm sure some of my collogues, we all run drills. >> we run drills. >> we practice what to do. >> i spent sometime with eight local teachers to talk about what they think can be done to prevent another mass shooting. do they want to be armed? how do we begin to solve this issue? you will hear their answers tonight on "eyewitness news" at 11:00. search is on for two gunman wanted for a shooting caught on camera in hunting park. surveillance shows one of the suspects wearing a white hooded sweat shirt opening fire in the chinese restaurant bullet struck a 16 year-old boy in the arm. we are told he is okay. shooting happened near broad and girard friday night, both suspects ran away from the scene. call police if you have any information. worker manager toes scare off three gunman who tried to rob this pizza hut in germantown last week. surveillance video shows the

dangerous encounter police say three suspects entered west chelten avenue restaurant and demanded cash. that is when worker got in the struggle with one of them and at one point he threw pizza boxes at a robbers. the suspects fled empty handed , the workwears not hurt , if you recognize the suspects cat police. authorities are investigating the cause of the deadly fire in philadelphia's strawberry mansion neighborhood, that fire broke out this morning, at a home in the 2500 block of north new kirk street. fire fighters arriving on the scene found both heavy smoke and flames, and 71 year-old claire allen was killed. two others hospitalized. warm um in the weather meant a terrific tuesday in the region where it was mostly sunny and mild. kate's outside on the sky deck on this beautiful evening out there it still looks nice. will weather be hanging around for us a while. >> tomorrow is not bad not as nice as today. hey todd put it on the jacket but the breeze has been picking up enough that the sunnies going down, and, the

skies clear, still. temperatures dropping rapidly. you will still need a coat heading outside today. tonight i should say. it is in the quite as warm as its was last week but still a beautiful evening. our high climbed to 56 degrees the low 33. we were about 10 degrees above average but still pretty far from the record of 74. so a really pleasant day, 52 degrees, still in philadelphia 50 in allentown. fifty-one in reading. temperatures dropping 3 degrees in the past hour. temperatures, leveling off rapidly this evening and we will end up in the 30's overnight. skies are clear right now but that will change, here comes our next system you can see lifting to the southwest and that is going to get here by the even of the week and that means march will come in like a lion this storm moves in late thursday, deepens off shore, friday, and will bring rain, gusty wins and maybe even a period have snow for parts of the area. we will break out the timing on this system and i'll tell what you to expect as far as the wind is concerns as we head in the weekend as well. for now, we're back inside to

you. >> thank you, kate. in honor of black history month the philadelphia fire department is taking time to recognize men and women who became pioneers for change. >> kyw news radio reporter justin udo tells us more about the city's first african-american fire fighter. >> ♪ >> reporter: first african-american fire fighters in philadelphia had to fight more than just fires. they fought exclusion, racism, threats, segregation and smear campaigns n honor of black history month fire department is recognizing those fights like the won isaac jake on and stephen went through as first black fire fighters in the department. >> we are taking time to really celebrate the accomplishments and importance and continued contributions of the african-american fire fighters in the philadelphia fire department. >> reporter: accomplishments by engine 11 firehouse where all black fire fighters were stationed and strides black women made in the department took center stage. >> for a long time i never thought i would see the numbers that we have today, but once they started coming, on and staying, and it became

exciting. >> reporter: ceremony not only recognizes black fire fighters from the past but took time to honor black fire fighters still making history. crystal yates is first black woman assistant deputy commissioner in the department she would not be in her ground breaking position if not for people before her and she hopes to keep paving the way for people coming after her. >> i hope that high school girls will get in and say i can do that too. >> reporter: deputy commissioner yates said she's happy to see progress blacks made in the department. >> when i first came on the job in 1998, i knew every african-american person on the job. i'm proud to say that is no longer true. so we must have grown significantly and i hope that we have grown some more. >> reporter: fire commissioner tiehl said it is important to have a fire department that reflects diversity of the city >> as we learn from the past we still have a lot of work to do we know those contributions will continue. >> ♪ >> reporter: justin udo for kyw news radio for cbs-3

sit parking amnesty program will open for enrollment tomorrow. individual was parking tickets issued prior to 2013 that are unpaid were partially unpaid,

whole lot just high cloud, starting to drift in here to the west and as we zoom out here though our next system is already waiting in the wings, moving through portions of the lower mississippi valley here tonight, and this will get here starting on thursday and continue into friday, it is a long duration system which will developed into a full blown nor'easter that deepens off the coast late friday. in the meantime it is quiet outside tonight. mainly clear, chilly, our low is 36 degrees. winds southeasterly light at 5 . tomorrow sunshine, clouds, more sun in the afternoon, back and forth between sun and cloud tomorrow but it is mild again, but high of 60 which is more than 10 degrees above the average. wins southeasterly at five to 10 miles an hour. the february is finish. on a nice note but as we head toward end of the week we have got some problems to tell but let's time this out. here's tomorrow at 1:00 still seeing mixture of cloud and sun, dry day, showers tomorrow night, mainly lifting area north of here, there could be

a stray one. but for most tomorrow is dry. by thursday afternoon rain moves in, continues through thursday night and then this storm intensifies off the coast, rain off the back edge, it may end up as a brief period of snow in our far, north and western zones. timing we have nailed that down thursday into friday with the greatest impact, likely thursday night strengthening off shore, coastal impact likely and that brief change to know european models that we depend on does have a brief period of wet snow, it is especially for poconos not much in the way of accumulation here in the city but a few wet flakes on the back edge of that storm friday midday. colder air starts to move in with that system as well. win will stay strong. weekend looks better then it will be here, i think highs near 50's, some sun, but that system is lurking off the coast and it will be windy, 49 will feel like 35, maybe at times. >> yes. >> don't get too excited.
