well, serious situation down the shore this noon a nor'easter is slamming the coast battering the beach and whipping up waves, flooding, is a real concern. and, the storm is also powerful broken umbrellas in match for wins gusting up to 60 miles an hour in spots. to the north and west, snow is a major concern piling up fast in the poconos some areas could get as much as a foot of snow. and, this is the nor'easter that is causing all of this trouble, swirling storm that is covering much of the northeast and the war may
12:01 pm
be yet to come. numerous watches and warnings are in effect right now, good afternoon i'm rahel solomon. i'm jim donovan. we have live team three coverage. first latest on the storm with meteorologist katie fehlinger. >> so many moving piece was this storm system. we have to go all around the region to give awe sense what will take place here because it is very much location location, location and when it comes to what you are going to end up with in your neighborhood. lets go back out to that wide zoom on storm scan three storm system continues to churn, what a mess in new england here heavy snow pounding down threw up state new york and now locally, across about the north half of our region. it is coming down moderately too in burlington, ocean county as well, generally speaking i have seen rainfall totals so far about a i to just under two but clearly the snow is taking over now, and that is absolutely going to over spread the rest of the region as day goes on with the wind gusts take a look, pretty potent now
12:02 pm
we're in the high wind warning and 49 miles gusts being reported at philly international, that will grab some flights. 54 miles an hour in dover. that is peak we are finding of this slew of observations but i have seen them as high as 50 in wilmington, this morning. another look at high wind warning. we are in it. it goes into effect until 6:00 a.m. tomorrow, so you are talking about an incredibly long lived system here, and wind event that will easily bring down trees tree limbs power lines and we have already had a handful of reports of that in places. now, these are your actual temperatures. notice they are dropping off so that is why transition hasn't completely taken place for us just yet we are in the 30's just right now from philly to trenton, 34 in allentown and again snow has begun to pick up in a lot of these spots.nto the p.m. rush, a lot of things to watch out for. you need to watch out for debris already in the roads or flying in the road. visibility is going to be greatly reduced from whipping precipitation as well as
12:03 pm
again, the precipitation just coming down, ponding slick travel from rain and or snow, and dangerous win gust that is go along with this. if you are traveling in a high profile vehiclal cross the bridge you can feel your car joseling. so in a lot of things, playere and i will break down much more of the region a little later in the >> thanks, katie. wins as katie mentioned are packing a punch down the shore and flooding is a major concern. >> team coverage continues with cleve bryan live on the boardwalk in atlantic city. and, cleve, good after noon. >> good afternoon not too bad honest, the wind is coming out of the west/ southwest, so that is when you look at the ocean it is pretty calm looking because the wind at the moment is blowing out toward the ocean, and it is causing those waves to just slowly lap in, about three to 4-foot waves at the moment. right now we are seeing close to low tide, it is just before 2:00 p.m., high tied was 7:30 this morning.
12:04 pm
it ways more issue with the flooding and rains and the wind and back bays, right new we are getting a strong gust actually as we speak try to held our camera today and hold mythis is a gusty end and it will be a tide driven event as far as flooding. so back on the bay side, of the atlantic city and all a lock barrier island they depend on those storm drains to dump water out in the bay but when you have wind for long period of time backup and the streets just can't drain the way they are supposed to. we are getting a gust it is right now where and brace yourself. you have to watch out whe are coming down during tide cycles. tonight high tide is around 8:00 tomorrow morning is supposed to be one of the highest tides and more dangerous times as far as road s are concerned and the flooding so do not drive through any standing water and, look those alerts , atlantic city puts alert on social media letting you know which roads are closed. i check with the police department a little while ago
12:05 pm
they said they didn't have any rescues in cars or homes because of flooding this morning. that is good thing this is a very typical nor'easter sort of weather pattern. we will have flooding with this with the tide cycles, when the rain coming down with the wind it will be a problem and, of course, beach so we will continue to monitor this throughout the afternoon and when you come home, from work if you live at the barrier islands make sure you park your car somewhere that is high up, all of those streets that are flood prone will likely flood and in atlantic city, i know they have waves by the outlets that would be free. we will continue to look around for some of the signs of erosion and this is just kind of in the middle of it. winds are expected to build according to the national weather service. live report from atlantic city , cleve bryan for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". if you have to be outside anywhere bring a rain coat and very sturdy umbrella. david spunt is seeing umbrellas and could not stand up to the elements, he is live
12:06 pm
at philadelphia's love park, hi there david. >> hi, rahel and jim. these umbrella companies need to step up their game. unbelievable how many umbrellas are completely broken, flipping inside and out, flying all over the city just not working. in fact we saw several break today. but right now the wind is the story in the city. as you can see that wintry mix starting to come down. this wind is certainly picking up especially because of the wind tunnel we're in with all of the buildings in the city, and heavy street signs won't stop moving, and, we spotted trash cans toppled over, umbrellas turned inside out some just abandoned in the middle of the street as cars drove by. despite the weather plenty of people are outside doing their thing, walking to work and enjoying the city, considering the circumstances. >> it is very cold, it is very windy, and i came here to deliver a report and i'm freezing. >> reporter: when wind does
12:07 pm
not pick up, it is not that bad but then we will get gusts of wind being in the wind tunnel. l and i licenses and inspections in the city, very concerned, they oversee those construction projects. i want to talk to officialness about 20 minutes to see exactly what they are doing but they don't want people out working on those construction projects tod because the wind is incredibly dangerous. reporting live from love park, david spunt for cbs-3 "eyewitness news". >> david, you need to put on a hood rule number one in television is protect the hair >> protect the hair, the hair is getting wind swept right now so the hood will be coming out. but i took the hood off i forgot the hood, the hood need to go back on and will be on later thanks david. storm is affecting people trying to leave or even get into the city. >> our anita oh has a hat on live at philadelphia international airport with more on flight cancellations and delays, hi there anita. >> but let me tell you this weather is wreaking havoc on travelersiving and
12:08 pm
departing flights have been cancelled, leaving manykup plan. inside philadelphia international airport we saw line or to find a place to stay for the evening, we also spoke to one man who said he was headed to columbus, ohio for a business trip be 10:30 a.m. and his flight had been cancelled. >> well, i was originally supposed to get a flight out of hartford. i came here because i had family here. i thought if i got stuck i would be able to stay with them. so i rebooked a flight for 10:30, from philadelphia to columbus and then like 20 minutes after i booked we booked the flight it got cancelled. >> reporter: he's hoping to re book that flight for later this afternoon some airlines are offering free waivers for anyone trying to change their flights, airport officials are urging you to check status of your flight before heading here. for now live at philadelphia international airport anita oh for cbs-3 eyewitness news. always good advice, thank you. meteorologist chelsea in grammys in the cbs-3 mobile weather watcher. >> what are driving conditions
12:09 pm
like what are you seeing. >> reporter: they are not all that great wind is awful and also precipitation coming down we are dealing with the wet all snow at times. let me show you from our roof cam you can see how strong these wins are, look at the flag in the background, flopping around and even look at those stop lights, my good ness, the winds are whipping those around and with the wind, the precipitation is actually coming down the sideways and we have winds sustained very strong around 30 miles an her right now in the city. so this is what we're dealing with very low visibility. we will go to the dash cam now we will be about to make our way on the ben franklin bridge there is a lot of drivers out and about so far this afternoon. the reason we're making our way on the bridge because this is something you need to keep in mind high profile vehicles can definitely have some problems on bridges today because of these very strong winds, there is actually an empty trailer ban on four
12:10 pm
delaware river port authority bridges right now. so those tractor trailers aren't waited down enough, well, they will just fly over, turn over, very easily with winds like we are dealing with right now. my husband was out driving this morning he saw a tractor trailer all of the right side wheels lifted up off the ground and he was very concerned when he saw. that thank goodness that truck driver was just fine but this is something we are keeping a very close eye on and planning to make our way across the bridge as we deal with these extremely strong winds keeping an eye on things here in the mobile weather watcher i'll send it back inside to you guys. >> thanks, chelsea. we will be with you through the storm watch for hourly weather updates throughout the day on cbs-3 and on our web site at cbs philly.com. still to come this noodid you get an invitation? coming up prince harry and megan markle are making plans for their spring royal wedding including who they will invite and it is a very big guest list. >> we will continue to watch

12:16 pm
causthere, with the wind speed.kn i wouldn't call this glancing blow from this storm whatsoever but we are not getting hit as hard as new england, man. this is a huge, monster crippling system, for that area for us, okay, we will to have deal with rain, and some snow out of it, certainly the wind issue that to me is biggest concern but we are not getting hit that hard. sharp cut off for snow goes to the poconos. you want it to see that heavier snow. lets get you through future weather. i live this pretty much but notice a back edge here. there will be breaks and cut off here with the precipitation through the afternoon but because of the colder air is working its way in we're seeing that change over between rain over to snow a mixture of the two or one or the other but now that cold air is tracking in, mainly with snow for day. it may have a tough time sticking down near the shore but you are very likely to see a few flakes as well. six or 7:00 wind is still whipping but back edge of this is starting to make its exit so come 9:00 o'clock there
12:17 pm
could be a break in the cloud cover. it will be very breezy but by this point the precipitation is starting to pull away. only a few more hours of the war of the precipitation meantime though we have had an inch upward of two, of rain coming down locally higher amounts, since i last checked the public information statement from the weather service, but a flood advisory underway as a result of the rain that has already fallen in effect through fallen streams and creeks flowing out of the banks and these counties shaded in the grain. we have a flood watch that lasts at lee until late tonight for much of that same zone. here are your sustained wind speed, so yeah we will have higher gusts up to 50, 60 miles an hour. these are sustained wind walking out the door and stuck w we don't get gusts per se stuck with the solid 29, 30 miles an hour breeze if not stronger, down to delaware right now again that wind is a big issue with gusts as high as 60 and a multi hour of an event of that kind of win. that is why we're so worried about wires coming down and leading to power outages along with already reports of
12:18 pm
trees coming down, not just tree limbsrees coming down, we have had so much rain as ovulate the ground vice saturated and that is going to lead to easy up rooting. here are other storm alerts that we have going on. here is high wind warning posted until tomorrow early morning, flood watch for philly ain't points northe winter storm warning up in the poconos specifically. is there a winter weather advisory in northampton county as well. they go until 4:00 a.m. to. coastal flood warning for all of south jersey and delaware for obvious reasons that again cleve had mentioned in his, in in his shot earlier this hour. so, we will take a lot at snow amounts. you know now that we are seeing that change over to take place. it will be a while before it has a chance to stick in the city and points south but we could end up with 2 inches before it is all said and goat done. six to 12 inches in the poconos. heavy wet snow. split the difference say two to 4 inches for good portion of the the lehigh valley. and as we forward okay good news is that the storm is out to sea by
12:19 pm
tomorrow and sunday. the bad news you will not have a glorious weekend. they are still having issues, plow tomorrow and the wind that persists, on the heels of the storm. so, you know, we're not totally out of the wood by tomorrow but it sure will be getting better by then. >> progress. >> exactly. >> thanks, katie. prince harry and megan markle's wedding will be one for the ages and members of the public will get to experience it. pair have announce that had they will invite more than 2600 people from across the uk did you get your invite. >> it is coming. >> okay. >> they will be able to watch the bride and groom arrive at saint georges chapel and departon. will ethese peonuáh
12:21 pm
the storm is doing in the pocono area. this is, times lapse video of workers on the slopes at jack frost big boulder at times the snow was falling so hard it looked like white out conditions, and we are keeping an eye on this storm and we will bring you hourly updates all afternoon. lets get the final check of the katie. >> i wanted to show you these one more time don't discount these winds these are gusts as opposed to sustained wind but we are in the 40's, pushing 50 in a lot of locations right now. one more check just in the list format how much snow you can expect in your neighborhood here in the sit it is brief change over to snow before the storm starts to pull away but we could get a hand up to 2 inches by the and dune. thatño is "eyewitness news". here thanks for watching. >> "eyewitness news" continues at 5:00. on. >> have a great weekend stay safe young and re next.
