their own accord. >> catherine, you mentioned a deal being struck. foreign diplomats tried to negotiate a peaceful resolution. we have seen negotiations break down earlier this week. where do things stand now? >> at the moment, it looks like the chances of any mediation solving this rice are pretty slim. or 10 days, we had representatives from the eu, the u.s., the united arab emirates and qatar trying to strike some sort of a deal but they have now left. government forces, however, are saying that negotiations are not entirely over. they just have been frozen, partly to assuage anger among the egyptian public over perceived international interference in egypt's domestic affairs. there is still a slim chance that confrontation over the city and could be avoided. but i think many of the morsi supporters realize there's really no going back to pre-july 3. mohamed morsi will not be reinstated. many of the road testers will tell you that privately.
