kurds struggling to hold back the isis tied in northern iraq. a statement released by the presidential palace said that weapons would be sent in the coming hours. it is a decision that has been taken outside the normal european framework after the failure of an ambassadors meeting on tuesday to come to an agreement after -- over the iraq situation. some eu countries are strictly opposed to sending weapons to the struggling kurds. the president of the autonomous kurdish region of iraq called on the international community to help them fight against the insurgents. they have received support from the u.s. and u.k. the u.k. has intensified its involvement by sending helicopters and arranging airdrops of supplies. the french government has not yet given any precise details so far about the types of arms being deployed, how many, and how they are to be used.

possible plan from the united states and the u.k. to launch a rescue mission to help get the yaziidis off of the mount? >> there are different initiatives, humanitarian airstrikes from the u.s., france has decided to send arms to the fighters -- i think all the initiatives are going in the right direction. if we remember what happened in syria, france was in favor of delivering weapons to the opposition before the opposition was taken over by the islamists. france was completely isolated and the other eu states did not want to do it. now look at the situation in syria. before the islamist state takes control of more of areas -- control of more areas of iraq, it's important to help them fight back. the islamist state is not only a threat to iraq or syria. it's a threat to the whole region if we don't stop it.

the israeli police sources say that a rocket has landed just two hours before the end of the temporary cease-fire. negotiations are going on in cairo between israel and hamas mediated by egypt, in order to try to find a solution to the conflict which has claimed almost 2000 lives in the gaza strip. the latest coming in from the middle east is from israeli police forces, saying that a rocket has landed on israel ahead of that truce deadline. with no solution it seems on the table at the talks in cairo, it seems that the resumption of hostilities, as threatened by both sides, looks like it is now underway. we will bring you more as we get it here on "france 24." next ukraine has called a russian convoy approaching its border a cynical act designed to fan a rebel in. -- fan a rebellion.

kiev says a compromise could be reached if the red cross came -- became involved. russia's president vladimir putin has warned of a humanitarian catastrophe in the eastern region. our correspondent joins us now from kiev. tell us the latest you have on this convoy. >> well, i was just speaking to some journalists who are on the scene in the russian city, which is several hundred kilometers away from moscow, on the way to ukraine. it has been halted there all day. it arrived last night and was due to leave at 10:00 this morning. it is still there now. that convoy is going to start trundling its way toward ukraine again in the morning. but there is still an awful lot that is unclear about this convoy. we are getting very conflicting

information coming out of kiev about whether this is absolutely not wanted and will be sent back under any circumstances. then we have president poroshenko's spokesperson saying, is the international red cross gets involved and there is an international presence on the border, it could be taken through customs and it would be ok. we've heard russia say that all of this has already been completely agreed with the red cross and we have the red cross saying it hasn't been agreed. there is an awful amount of confusion. it is humanitarian aid, if it is indeed humanitarian aid -- there have been some doubts about what is inside there is a really awful humanitarian situation going on at the moment. >> at potentially humanitarian catastrophe -- when vladimir putin says a potential humanitarian catastrophe, we can take him at his word? >> it depends on who you blame

website about false images of isis. >> we heard a new story. in gaza, we heard that the fake images do circulate on social media, where fact checking is less thorough, if not completely nonexistent on occasion. the website has flagged quite a few images that are also fake, false images used to prove slavery and general -- genital mutilation under isis. the first one is "summary executions of the yazidis." this image was supposedly taken in iraq. it was supposedly yazidis on sinjar mountain. those images were taken in syria. it was a clan who rebelled against isis there. the spirit of the photo is intact in the sense that these

are isis executions, but the factual location is not correct. photos of women and allegedly sold as slaves. you can see images taken in lebanon in 2013. this is a shiite procession in the town of -- an iraq the parliamentarian and several websites claimed that hundreds of women from the yazidi community had been sold as slaves, but there are no photos to illustrate that. further down again, group marriage and mo-- group marriage in mosul. that is bogus. it is not a group marriage. it is one man marrying one woman. and "state fatwa on female genital mutilation." there was a claim that isis had ordered the genital mutilation of all women and girls living in the mosul region. the claim was founded on the

basis of a fake fatwa that has been circulating online for several months. isis has reportedly ordered farmers to hide cows' udders bec ause they are deemed indecent. you have lots of sendups of that, photomontages online, but no actual proof of that claim. isis themselves are putting up their hand and claiming responsibility for a huge amount of brutal acts, but in the midst of all that, there does seem to be some bogus claims as well. >> lots of things online that you can't check you can't verify what it is about or where it is from. sometimes it is about incompetence. sometimes it is about manipulation. the key is to go to trusted sources, such as ours. >> and they are doing a good job there. >> next up, reporting on

suicide, which is extremely delicate. a newsmagazine, left-leaning in the u.k., looks at where reporting on this sensitive issue can go wrong. >> they spoke -- i don't have the article to illustrate this. i lost it along the way. they spoke about some suicide attempts last year. there was paris jackson, the daughter of michael jackson, and also a couple of other examples, where it was reported on in an arc -- on in an insensitive manner and the people were still around to witness these reports later. a couple of words of caution in articles today about that. i won't go into more detail about that, but it is being flagged that reporting on suicide can on occasion be insensitive. >> let's move onto another great loss for hollywood, robin williams, of course, taking his own life yesterday. today, we have sad news of the passing, of, at the age of 89
