hezbollah is claiming an attack on a military convoy. the attack took place there mount dov and shebaa farms. the attack prompted israel to fire at least 50 artillery shells into lebanon. we are hearing now from the news agency that a soldier has been captured during that operation. rob parsons is with me here. tell us more about what you have been able to find out. >> reports have been contradictory so far. an israeli soldier has been captured and ups the ante.

the response can be expected to be tough indeed. we haven't heard anything at this stage from the israelis. the israelis are saying a missile struck a vehicle and forces were wounded. hezbollah said it was a sophisticated operation. several vehicles were hit and several israeli soldiers were killed. they said nothing in the early stages about an israeli soldier being killed. if it is true, i expect the israeli response will be tough indeed. >> talk us through the timeline. >> it clearly does seem to be related to the attack on january the 18th. the unit that carried out the operation suggest that on the

the coming elections. this is why i think we cannot be sure about the way the israelis or the scale the israelis would favor in the reaction to hezbollah. we can be sure that israel will react but will react in a way that will have everybody understand that israel has those cities when it considers its interests are at risk. >> what is the likelihood that hezbollah would get sucked into another major conflict? >> hezbollah has said what happened some days ago with the attack on the convoy in the golan heights in which we had some members of the hezbollah was something that would bring a response but they are evaluating the way they answer that.
5:38 am
we have the answer today. hezbollah wants to prove israeli has kept those cities. we do not know to which extent hezbollah could be exaggerating the means that it has. hezbollah keeps on repeating it has far more means than anyone can imagine. if hezbollah decided to attack the israeli territory and to provoke damage, it would be capable of doing it. nobody is able to say what lies the inet reality. it is risky, a risky bet. they remain engaged in syria. it will remain engaged on the golan heights. it considers they are occupied by israel. it will be capable of engaging,

defending itself against any strong israeli attack. the main asset they have today is that it does not rely on traditional ways of confronting the israeli army. it is more likely to stick to its guerrilla style, the way in which it responds to being able to witness attacks from the official israeli army but being more tactical and targeting more assets of the israelis that would wound much more the israeli army and would bring a kind of symbolic defeat for the army. >> thank you for taking the time to speak with us. let's go to jerusalem. what is the latest you can tell us from there?
