ramadi. they're hoping to retake the city from the islamic state group that seized control of this provincial capital sunday. hundreds of civilians were killed when islamic state fighters entered the city and the loss of ramadi was one of the most stunning defeats yet. josh: ramadi falls to islamic state militants. this amateur footage appears to show them abandoning the city. they said in a statement they have taken full control of the capital of anbar province. the iraqi government calls on them to help push back the islamic state fighters. >> we will be a real back on for security forces, an impenetrable fortress for this country. we will support the legitimacy and iraq represented in the government and parliament. josh: they fought the group when they manage to take the sunni majority into crit last month. -- in tikrit.

the fall of ramadi is the biggest setback for the government in baghdad since they launched a major operation last summer following the islamist state group sweeping the three in the north. the u.n. is leading aerial attacks on state targets across iraq and syria. on an official visit to south korea, secretary of state john kerry commented. secretary kerry: their movements, by and large, where there are air patrols and other capacities have been reduced. that's not everywhere. it is possible to have the kind of attack we've seen in ramadi, but i'm absolutely confident in the days ahead that it will be reversed. josh: at least a dozen civilians have fled their homes since the fighting began on friday. laura: they are human and
