explosions or the fire. nhk world has some more. >> reporter: the explosion os kurd just after midnight monday. the warehouse depot is in flames. it was broke and in control about six hours, but the 900 square facility in the city southwest of tokyo was completely destroyed. mr. the area shook with a booming and rumbling sound. >> i smelled a powerful odor and knew it was big trouble. >> five and ten engines were dispatched to the scene. but the crews held back from pous u dousing the flames with water. they were unsure of what was burning inside the warehouse. zplp i saw fragments of cylinders scattered around a 200

meter radius of the warehouse. >> a u.s. official at the scene didn't mention the cause of the explosion but said no dangerous fumes had escaped. >> there was no chemical waste, anything like that. >> another u.s. army spokesperson told fhk the warehouse was used to store compressed nitrogen and oxygen. he said, no ammunition or radioactive materials were stored in the depot. the facility sits on about 200 hectares of land. it has warehouses and repair facilities. local authorities did not issue an evacuation order for people living near the site as the fire did not spread outside the base. but residents are still expressing concern that the facility is located in a residential and commercial area. the mayor of the city spoke with a u.s. army official on monday

>> reporter: china has held next month's military parade in beijing on the 70th flifrs of what it calls its victory over japan t. military parade will take place at tiananmen square in the chinese capital september 3rd. the rehearsal is carried out on sunday after sealing off the square to pedestrians and civilian vehicles. military helicopters flew in a v-shaped formation and some aircraft trailed red and blue smoke over the square. military officials say 12,000 troops and about 200 aircraft will take part in the parade. tanks and missiles will be along the equipment on display. along with the parade, there will be a separate ceremony on the same day. foreign countries attending events will show the depth of
